Events deliver £52 million boost to Sheffield Major events brought over 858,000 attendees to Sheffield in 2025, with an economic impact of more than £52.2 million and a total visitor spend exceeding £32 million. The city’s return on investment for council-supported events reached an impressive £32.65 for every £1 invested, underlining Sheffield’s status as a powerhouse for live events and festivals. In the spring, Sheffield once again took centre stage as the host of the iconic World Snooker Championships at the Crucible Theatre, drawing tens of thousands of spectators and generating a multi-million pound boost for the city’s economy. The summer brought a wave of music and celebration from Bassfest to 90’ Fest. Tramlines and

Tramlines Fringe filled Hillsborough Park and the city centre, together attracting well over 100,000 attendees and delivering Sheffield’s single biggest economic impact of the year. It was a big year for Tramlines Festival, which was named Best Urban Music Festival in the UK. Other highlights included the internationally renowned Sheffield DocFest, the ever-popular Sheffield Food Festival, and the spectacular Rock n Roll Circus, each drawing huge crowds and contributing significantly to the city’s thriving visitor economy. As autumn arrived, October’s Out of This World festival transformed the city centre with a celebration of science fiction and fantasy, while the year concluded with a festive flourish as Christmas events and Light

Up Sheffield illuminated the city, creating a magical atmosphere across Sheffield’s most iconic landmarks. “Sheffield’s events programme in 2025 showed our city at its best – welcoming hundreds of thousands of people and generating more than £41 million for our economy. Behind those headline figures are thousands of unforgettable experiences, busy local businesses, and volunteers who make it all happen. As we look ahead, we’re excited to build on this momentum – starting with the European Figure Skating Championships and a packed year of sport, culture and creativity that will continue to bring people together and showcase Sheffield to the world.”

Sheffield’s 2026 calendar launches with the prestigious ISU European Figure Skating Championships at Utilita Arena this week, bringing world-class athletes and a buzz of excitement to the city. Alongside the championships, a free ice rink in the city centre invites everyone to join in the festivities and experience the thrill of figure skating. Hot on the heels of this, the Aquatics GB International Diving Cup (30 January – 1 February) will see elite divers from across the country and beyond compete at Sheffield’s renowned facilities – a highlight for sports fans and a chance to spot future Olympic hopefuls.
