Loudoun 40 Under 40 recognizes the county’s rising business and community leaders. Annually since 2013, we have honored 40 bright stars under the age of 40 – our area’s most accomplished and inspiring young talent. This year’s class is no exception. Selected from more than 150 nominations by a panel of prior honorees, this year’s 40 Under 40 exhibits impressive professional accomplishments, heartfelt community involvement and stellar leadership skills. Year after year, what our honorees achieve at their workplaces and in their neighborhoods is nothing short of remarkable.
This year’s diverse class includes an array of roles and industries -- from entrepreneurs to educators, elected officials to executive directors. While their professions and pursuits vary, they all give generously for the betterment of our community. In the pages ahead, our honorees share -- in their words -- how they are making their mark on Loudoun and beyond. Their profiles will entertain, educate, enlighten and inspire you. Birthdate: 7/30/1982 Years lived in Loudoun: 4 Years Worked in Loudoun: 4 “Elevator speech” about you and your company I am a Sports Medicine Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. My goal is to vertically integrate all aspects of Sports Medicine to achieve value in healthcare (prevention, non-operative management, surgery, rehabilitation, return to sport, sport-science and performance). Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I had the privilege of being one of the Orthopaedic Team Physicians for the New York Giants. It was an incredible year being a part of the NFL and caring for the players, the staff, and contributing to their mission as a part of the medical team. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement My most significant nonprofit work occurred in medical school. I was a part of a team that created an entirely student-run free clinic. Over a decade and a half later, the clinic is still running - providing care for underserved patients in New Haven, Connecticut. Personal background and family information I am the proud father of three beautiful girls. My wife is the Associate Director of the Shenandoah University Physician Assistant program in Ashburn. I am a Navy brat and we moved frequently when I was young. My mother is from Jamaica and I spent my holidays and formative years there. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you Issac Newton once said, “If I have seen further it is only by standing on the shoulders of giants.” His words have never been more applicable in the field of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. There are too many mentors to thank and I only try to pass it forward. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family With the little remaining time after work and family, I enjoy watching English Premier League football (Blue is the Colour). Favorite smartphone app I have three apps that I use almost daily- the Starbucks app, Strava, and Amazon. It would be unfair to pick a favorite amongst them.

“Elevator speech” about you and your company I love Loudoun! That’s a dual elevator pitch for myself and Loudoun County Economic Development. I moved to Loudoun and bought a house here well over a year before it became my job to share the story of how great the county is. So you know I’m telling the truth :) Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud It was a wonderful experience to be part of the team that produced a top 20 finalist response to the Amazon HQ2 RFP (from a list of 200+ competing jurisdictions). While Amazon ultimately chose the community next door, Loudoun will see a great deal of benefit from HQ2’s presence in the Commonwealth. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement It’s been a really great experience volunteering as a coach in the Eastern Loudoun Basketball League (ELBL). The ELBL is an instructional basketball league and I have volunteered during multiple seasons as a coach of the 5-7th grade level teams. Personal background and family information I am a proud Bostonian (without much of the accent, sadly). I grew up in Cambridge and am a lifelong New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan. I’m also first generation American as both my parents were born and raised in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you My Aunt, Isabel Cooper, is my personal and professional mentor. She is among the wisest people I know. Her words are always thoughtful and her advice carries weight (and not just because of her massive success as a businessperson and entrepreneur). Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Most days after work you can catch me playing basketball. It is and remains my first love and i’ve been playing with the same group of guys and gals at the Dulles Town Center LA Fitness since 2014. Favorite smartphone app Whatsapp. In addition to the always interesting “Saturday Hoops” group chat (see favorite hobby above), I use it to communicate with my friends and family living overseas.

“Elevator speech” about you and your company I have been a proud member of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office for almost 12 years. I believe in our agency and Sheriff Michael Chapman’s mission of striving to continuously improve safety and law enforcement services to all members of our community through the S.T.E.P Up strategy. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud My proudest accomplishment was being promoted by Sheriff Chapman to the School Resource Officers Unit and being able to help the SRO team become nationally and internationally recognized for their accomplishments. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement Being a part of NOBLE (National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives) and being an active member in this organization has helped me build a better relationship with the community. I enjoy being able to give back to the community and my law enforcement family through NOBLE. Personal background and family information I grew up in Petersburg, Virginia. I am the son of Michael A. Castelle Sr. and Pamela R. Castelle. My parents are my biggest influences and heroes. I have a younger brother, Michael Castelle Jr, who served honorably in the Marine Corp. He is currently working in a civilian capacity overseas. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you My father is my biggest mentor both professionally and personally. He is retired federal law enforcement and a nationally recognized for his work. He instilled principles of servant leadership and guidance since I was a child. He taught me what it means to be a servant leader. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I enjoy going to the gym and working out. I love traveling to other countries and exploring different cultures. I enjoy going out with my friends to new breweries and social events. I am an outgoing person and I love to meet new people. 7 “Elevator speech” about you and your company I am the Executive Director for the YMCA Loudoun County. We are a nonprofit that provides youth with opportunities to learn, grow and thrive so that they can reach their full potential. We provide these opportunities to all regardless of inability to pay by providing scholarships to those in need. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I was the first within my immediate family to obtain my bachelor’s degree which I thought was not possible while working full-time and raising a family. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement I obtained a $30,000 donation which allowed 15 children from the Greentree Shelter to attend camp all summer. These kids were dealt a challenging life of uncertainty and various challenges at no fault of their own and the donation allowed them to have a productive summer and some stability. Personal background and family information required I was born in El Salvador and came to Northern Virginia when I was 6 years old. My family came to the US to seek a better way of living and to escape the civil war in El Salvador and its dangers. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you I consider my parents as my mentors. Since I was young, they have taught me by example the meaning of hard work and to never forget where we come from. I have them to thank for where I am now. It’s a direct result of their support and for providing the opportunity of a lifetime to live in a country full of opportunities. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Hiking and being outdoors is my favorite activity. I love nature and admire its beauty! Nature helps me relax and slow down from the day-to-day responsibilities and to reflect as well. I enjoy hiking, canoeing or just being around trees and water. Favorite smartphone app required YouTube for sure! It is my go-to for entertainment and to find out how to do or fix something. I have fixed my own home AC, dryer, washer and saved a lot of money thanks to YouTube!

C2 Operations is a roofing, siding, gutters, doors, windows, and repairs company servicing Loudoun County. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I am most proud of being a business owner in my community. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement I am an active board member of the Loudoun Habitat for Humanity. In efforts to further my community support, C2 Operations has assisted in providing roofing, siding, guttering, windows and doors free of charge for the organization. Personal background and family information I joined the Marine Corps after high school and specialized in tactical air traffic control from 1998 to 2003. After serving, I moved home and began working in the construction industry. I am a graduate of NOVA, Kaplan and Strayer University. I have been married to my wife Amber for 7 years and we have 3 children. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you Ray Kroc (as portrayed by Michael Keaton in the movie Founder) is one of my influencers. He showed hard work, persistence, and that out-of-the-box thinking could take you anywhere. Ingvar Kamprad, founder of Ikea, is also an influencer. He revolutionized the furniture industry through innovation. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Marksmanship is a niche talent of mine I discovered at Parris Island. When stationed in Okinawa, Japan years ago, I went to Marksmanship Instructor School. Although I don’t often have time to get to a firing range, I still light up some targets with my iron sights when I do get to go. Favorite smartphone app Business first for my app of choice. Weather.com app and its hourly forecast are a must for exterior contractors as well as outdoor family event planning. But I do love a good meme!

As Director of Development, I build strong relationships with community partners who will invest in critical and innovative programs to support the academic success and well-being of our students and teachers. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud As a major gifts fundraiser, I am most proud of my ability to bring in new partners and secure funding for key initiatives that directly impact our students and teachers across the County. In just over a year, I have been able to support our major gift campaign that has raised over $6.2 million. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement As a nonprofit professional, my work allows me to invest time and energy into strengthening our public schools by creating programs that foster success for our students! I love seeing these programs, like the Community School Initiative, expand to meet the needs of all students and their families. Personal background and family information I am a Northern Virginia native and grew up in Manassas, Virginia. My husband and I recently purchased a home in Loudoun and we own a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Puccini! I have a Bachelors in Music from George Mason University and a Masters in Arts Administration from Florida State University. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you Aristia (Tia) Kinis, my supervisor from TJ Partnership Fund, has been my professional mentor for years now! She was always my biggest cheerleader and provided me with opportunities that would challenge me but allow me to succeed and grow. Tia is always just a phone call away! We try new recipes every single week and our friends know that anytime they visit, they will likely be trying something new! I also love to go on long walks with my pup, Puccini. All you have to do is show up and have fun! Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I recently won the Loudoun County Tourism Manager of the Year award. It was, by far, the proudest moment of my career. Hearing my name called for that award validated all the work and passion I have put into my company for the past three-and-a-half years. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement I am very proud to be a part of the Northern Virginia Business Outreach group and that we are able to support Ellie’s Hats children’s cancer foundation together. It’s so rewarding to work with fellow business owners who also have a heart for community outreach. Personal background and family information I grew up in Woodbridge, Virginia. When I was a kid, my dad was offered a job in Leesburg. We came up to check out the town and I totally fell in love! I told my parents then that when I grew up, I would live there. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you Dave Dority was the first owner of DiVine Wine Tours. When he sold me the company, I was an elementary school teacher with a dream of owning a company. He believed in me and taught me everything I know about running a business, from how to respond to an email to how to make 50 people on a bus happy! Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I am a singer-songwriter. After high school, I moved to Austin, TX to pursue my music career, where I met my husband when he became the piano player in my band. When we got married, we moved to Loudoun where we started playing at all the local wineries. That’s how we got into Virginia wine! Favorite smartphone app I love my Marco-Polo app! Sometimes you just need a break in a stressful day to record yourself saying ridiculous things in a macho-voice and send it to your best friend.

We are committed to locally-sourced, innovative culinary and surpassing our guest’s expectations. My passion is to provide our guests with nutritious, delicious and creative dishes that tantalize their minds and taste buds. We have hundreds of guests visit from all over the country and for weeks at a time, so providing them with a variety of foods and thoughtful dishes is what keeps my job interesting and exciting. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud Prior to being nominated for 40 Under 40, my proudest accomplishments were becoming part of the Benchmark’s Executive Chef Council and being invited to cook at the James Beard House in New York representing Benchmark Hospitality. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement Through The National’s partnership with Project SEARCH, I give young adults with significant disabilities the opportunity to train with us and experience what a real job is like while learning work ethic and communication skills. Working with these interns in the kitchen has taught myself and my entire team valuable skills in addition to helping them gain experience for future employment. I’m also proud to have played a role in The National’s Complimentary Dining Program for furloughed government employees and their families. I’m proud to work for an organization that is so involved in the community and that I was able to give back through food. 11 “Elevator speech” about you and your company I am an Eagle Scout, an Air Force Veteran, an acting Deputy Chief Information Security Officer inside the Department of Homeland Security, the Mayor of Lovettsville, the Founding Commander of Lovettsville American Legion Post 1836, a husband, a father, and a friend. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud Most promotions in my professional career have been based on merit, time in grade, and the approval of a hiring manager. Being elected Mayor of the “Top Town in Virginia” by 77% of your neighbors is a humbling experience, and one that I do not take lightly. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement Creating an American Legion Post from scratch was an incredible journey. To have a place of comradeship where all veterans from our community can gather together in friendship and community service is what I am most proud of, and I can’t wait to see where we go from here. Personal background and family information High School Sweethearts, my Wife, Lizzy, and I have been together for 19 years, and together we have two children. We are active members of St. James Catholic Church, and whether it’s Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, sports or Town events, we always find a way to turn every event into a family fun day. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you Scott Galloway (Loudoun resident) has been a professional colleague since 2008. While working alongside, and sometimes under Scott, he has always been there to provide me with both career and personal advice, and our conversations continue along our daily MARC train commutes to this day. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Flying airplanes is my absolute favorite hobby. It sounds funny, but as complicated as it is, flying actually gives me the ability to simplify my mind and just fly the plane. There is nothing quite like “slipping the surly bonds of earth” for the first time. Knowing how to land is pretty great too! Favorite smartphone app This may be the 40 Under 40, but my nieces say I’m “old”; because I still use Facebook. As one of the first users back when you needed a college email address, Facebook gives me the ability to stay in touch with friends and family, share family photos, and can often provide comic relief on a busy day.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement Joining the Board of Loudoun Youth Inc. Having gone through the Claude Moore Community Builders Program when I was in high school my connection to the organization made it the perfect fit for me to give back. Personal background and family information I have spent the majority of my life living in Loudoun before going on to play baseball at Penn State and South Alabama. I knew when I was 15 that I wanted to go into commercial real estate and having three-generations of my family tied to Loudoun that this was the place to do it. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you My mother, Alice Frazier, is far and beyond my greatest mentor. Being able to follow her success in banking and her efforts in the community has helped me both professionally and personally. I am extremely fortunate to be able to learn from her every day. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Coaching baseball, the opportunity to help kids fall in love with the same sport that I have played for the majority of my life. The ability to teach kids all of the life lessons that athletics has to offer is incredibly rewarding. Favorite smartphone app The e-mail app. I am a workaholic so the ability to work from anywhere is oddly comforting.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement I thrive on helping others become their best selves by finding their inner strength through music. I have connected with children and young adults who would otherwise be excluded due to their differences. My best work has been helping my clients and interns feel like contributing members of society. Personal background and family information My husband and I just celebrated our 2 year anniversary and welcomed our daughter on Father’s Day. I grew up in a family of 6 kids and was involved with 4-H and showing animals in the county fairs. My husband graduated from LCHS and his dad is very involved with the Lucketts Fire Dept. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you Kim Tapper and Tom Sweitzer have both played influential roles in helping me navigate challenging moments in my personal life and have offered countless hours of supervision to help me become a stronger leader within the company and carry myself with grace. I am proud to call them my friends. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family My heart belongs outdoors! I love camping, hiking, high adventure outings (rock climbing, white water rafting, rope courses, roller coasters), gardening, driving with the windows down, picnics... My other go-to hobby is anything crafty. I cross stitch quite a bit and I enjoy making greeting cards. Favorite smartphone app My current favorite app is What To Expect. I’ve got a newborn at home and this app has provided me with much needed advice and information regarding all the “things” that creep up as a new parent. I find myself searching for anything that may or may not be out of the ordinary so I can rest easy.

“Elevator speech” about you and your company As the Executive Director of HSLDA Action, it is my privilege to work to ensure families are empowered to provide the best education possible for their children, as well as to help train the next generation of leaders. HSLDA Action works for educational freedom and youth empowerment in politics. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I am proud of building the iGovern Leadership Camps. It is a unique opportunity for high school students to try their hand at both the legislative and policy sides of government while in high school. The level of comparative accuracy between the program and real life is unmatched by any other. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement Though I have been a part of many community projects, from helping a local theater troupe to street trash pickup, I believe my most significant work has been volunteering teaching children at McLean Bible Church. I have been teaching there in different roles for the past 10 years. Personal background and family information I live in Purcellville, I grew up in the rural farmland near Spokane, Washington. I am married to the incredible Christie Grewe and have three awesome boys. I graduated from Eastern Washington University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in Government. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you In high school, Robert DeLateur had a huge impact in my life, inspiring me to be more than I expected while breaking me of my shyness. I would not be where I am now without him. Recently Will Estrada was a true guide for me when I became a director. His advice and listening ear were instrumental. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family When not working or spending time with my family, I enjoy working out, relaxing on the deck and grilling, as well as playing poker with friends in the neighborhood. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you Drew Clyde has served as both a personal and professional mentor to me the last five years. He was the main person I dialogued with on the vision of STAFFF and how to put legs to it. He has taken a major leap to start a church in our area after sitting on the idea for 10 years. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I have been a songwriter/musician for 15 years. Music is the platform that helps me make more sense of this life. I’ve been fortunate to tour with a band, play in weddings, and classrooms and cafes around Loudoun. The greatest venue by far has been my living room creating songs with my girls. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement From a long term standpoint, being part of the decision to bring the Metro Silver Line to Loudoun. Our vote was by the slimmest of margins--5-4--and it hinged on the creation of special tax districts to help pay for construction. We are now working to attract major mixed use development near Metro.
Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement My involvement with the volunteer fire and rescue service in Loudoun since 2005 has had a major impact on my life. I love being part of a like-minded group of people who join together to help our community in times of need.
Personal background and family information I grew up in Shrewsbury, MA and attended Catholic University in Washington, DC where I met my wife. I worked as a senior aide in the US Senate from 2002-2009 and now manage communications for the world’s largest business trade association. I am the father of 4 children, ages 6,8,10 and 12. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you U.S. Senator Pete Domenici, who was my boss for over six years. Senator Domenici was a giant of the Senate who was known for his work to balance the budget, expand nuclear energy and achieve mental health insurance parity. But what really impressed me was his focus on constituent service--no matter who it was or what their concern was, our office worked overtime to help them. I’ve tried to take the same approach on the Board of Supervisors. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I enjoy coaching youth baseball and basketball. I have been the head coach for two seasons in the Southern Loudoun Basketball League--our team went undefeated in the regular season this past year! All of my work in this area is significant and has a long lasting impact. I couldn’t possibly choose one as they all matter. We run a small rescue farm and we are truly as self sustaining as possible. She taught me to lead with grace and dignity and to never look down and to never look back. She taught me to be grateful for all the hard work done before and me to make sure I not only left somewhere better than I found it, but also to make sure as I rose, I brought another woman with me. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family required My current favorite hobby is controversial, but it is hunting. It gives me time to reflect, forces me to be calm, present and quiet. By chance, HHMI was forming a department of Community Relations. After three months of applying, I was granted the position with a promotion to follow just over a year later.

Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement The Make-A-Wish Foundation stole my heart in 2003 and I have been a Wish Granter and Wish Ambassador for 16 years. Each wish kid and family are very different and intimate, but all are magical. The experience is gratifying and empowering, and I take away something every time.
Personal background and family information I grew up in Woodbridge, VA with my parents and younger brother. I’ve started my prosecutorial career in the central and Tidewater areas of the state but and settled in Loudoun to be closer to family in 2012. I live alone with my 4-year-old pitbull mix, Ed. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you Linda Curtis, former Commonwealth’s Attorney and current Vice Mayor in Hampton, VA is both. As a young prosecutor, she taught me the importance of hard work and fairness, but she also looked after me as if I were family. She is still the person I call for advice although I left Hampton in 2012. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I love traveling to new places; I visited London, Spain, new spots in Colorado, and coastal California for the first time in the last year. When the schedule or budget doesn’t allow extended trips, I am a big fan of grabbing a friend, hopping in the car, blasting music, and seeing where I end up. Favorite smartphone app Definitely Twitter. I tend to have a short attention span, so its format is particularly helpful in allowing me to keep up with current events, friends, and humor. Also, the “Thoughts of Dog” Twitter feed can improve just about any bad day.
Personal background and family information I am a native Virginian from Lake Ridge. I currently rest my hat in South Riding. My mom and my sister are my core family, but I have a multitude of “family members” in my support system that sprouted from various friendships I’ve made along the way. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you My pastor and I almost have the same birthday, although decades apart. He has been my spiritual director for many years, not always giving advice, but reflecting what he hears. It is great to have someone to confide in who gets my quirks, holds me to high expectations, and adds wisdom with humor. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I really enjoy music, listening to just about every genre and attending concerts. Generally, I turn to music with lyrics so I can sing along. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud I am most proud of my patented design for a device to measure at high speed the safety of railroad tracks and ties. This technology allows major railroads to, at high speed, ensure that goods and passengers arrive safely at their destination and maintenance costs are reduced through early detection. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement I serve as a captain at the Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, as well as serving as the department’s Chief Training Officer, I serve the community as a unit officer and command officer multiple nights every week. Mr. Wilson inspired me to be more, to always push myself to learn something new. He also taught me compassion when, upon the death of my father, he brought on his dime himself and my close friends to Ohio to be at the funeral. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement My involvement in the Arlington Diocese WorkCamp has been probably the most impactful community work. The team met with high school students for nine months, preparing them both spiritually and practically. During the week-long camp, the teenagers work on projects to make homes safer and drier.
Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement Together with a small handful of neighbors, I led an effort to mobilize my community against portions of the 2040 Comp Plan that would have threatened the rural character of Loudoun. More than 1,100 residents signed our petition asking for balanced growth in the TPA, which I presented to the Board of Supervisors ahead of the vote.
Personal background and family information I am the oldest of three, raised in Northwest Indiana. I met my husband, Jeff, freshman year at Bradley University. Jeff’s job required a good deal of travel, so we moved to Loudoun to be near family. We’ve fallen in love with Loudoun, which is what has kept us here.
Personal background and family information I met my husband while working on Capitol Hill. We have three awesome boys - Augie (7), Leo (5) and Cai (4). We chose to raise our family in Loudoun County because of its amazing quality of life and great schools. We enjoy the outstanding sports programs for lacrosse, soccer, baseball and football.
Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you It would be a disservice to say that I have just one mentor in life. I find that everyone I meet has something to teach me about life. This includes people from my family, co-workers, Bible study group, Leadership Loudoun classmates, even my barista, have had a hand in guiding my perspective. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Recently, I’ve enjoyed walking through our community while listening to educational podcasts. However, I find my true zen while crafting. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you My Father, a former Congressional staffer, helped me navigate Capitol Hill throughout my 16-year career. His knowledge and expertise is unparalleled, and his advice and support throughout my career is one of the reasons for my success. He teaches me so much through his words and actions. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I’ve played soccer my entire life. I played on scholarship at Wingate University, where I was a four-year starter and team captain my junior/ senior years. I was awarded MVP and voted first team All-Region and All-District. I’m still involved in soccer, helping to plan (as well as play in) the US Soccer Foundation’s Annual Congressional Soccer Match for charity. Favorite smartphone app I use the LinkedIn app every day. I love the professional engagement and opportunities to connect with others who are interested in my field. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud Promotion to Director of Operations: I have worked very hard for 5+ years to go above and beyond what my position entailed. I have a true heart and passion for impacting my community through the varying facets that the Community Center offers. I believe this is evident when looking at all the positive change that has occurred over the last 5 years. I have also increased revenue through facility rentals by 300% as well as created a new look through marketing strategy that has stimulated revenue and community programing. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement Aside from spending nearly four years as a public servant to the businesses and taxpayers of Loudoun County, my most significant, recent community involvement is donating farm-raised food to Loudoun Hunger Relief. Personal background and family information I’m originally from southern Delaware and came to Northern Virginia for college. After first experiencing Arlington, I never expected to find my home in NoVa, but I met the love of my life and discovered the perfect place to put down roots, in Loudoun County.

They have taught me the value of hard work, loyalty, care, charity, and courage. I’ve had many professional influences, both my own teachers and my coworkers, but no one has had a greater influence on me or my work than my parents.
Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you A great personal/professional mentor for me is Vanessa Wagner, who previously served as Loudoun’s Small Biz Manager and Interim Ag Development Officer. Through her tireless work, she showed me how competence, tenacious charm and an abundance of patience can win over even the most stubborn naysayers.
Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Aside from creating a podcast (www.ClassCastpodcast.com) and writing, which I’m always trying to do more, I love spending time outside. With two young kids, most time outdoors is spent in my yard, tending my large vegetable garden (#MiniFarm), flower gardens, or playing games.
Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Two of my favorite hobbies are swimming and chopping wood, which are much more similar than they seem. Both require a degree of physicality and repetition, but can only be successful through good mechanics and precision. The resulting mental and physical workout is absolutely cathartic.
Favorite smartphone app Audible -- I tear through audiobooks during my commute and garden time. Audible keeps my mind open and sharp, and it has improved my reading recommendations to students and friends.

Being the person that orchestrates a behind the scenes role with recruitment and hiring is the ultimate reward and telling someone you’re hired! Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you It is really hard to say just one person that has mentored me, but my grandfather was one the hardest working men that I knew. My grandfather strived to work hard as a farmer, but also gave back to the community, he is the reason that I strive for greatness! Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family I love watching sports and analyzing data from Collegiate and Professional sports. I really like to keep my brain working and moving so challenging and puzzling games are a must! My finance and I are also both obsessed with true crime shows. Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud During the Northrop Grumman and Orbital ATK merger, I served as a program manager on the integration team. In this capacity, I created a project schedule and roadmap for multiple functions. By sharing and integrating best practices from both firms, we achieved superior results and savings. Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement Serving as a foster parent has been the most important way I’ve invested in our community. By providing a safe home and emotional support, I’ve given children a space to work through their past and have helped them dream about their future. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you Mentors have come in many forms throughout different stages of my life. One mentor, Joe Connell, provided impactful advice at a critical stage in my career. He counseled that pursuing an advanced degree is the best investment in yourself. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Scouring the DMV for the best pupusa, a staple of Salvadorian cuisine, is one of my favorite activities. My foster daughter and I enjoy sampling pupusas at local restaurants and ranking them. Our highest ranking pupusa to date is from a woman in Alexandria who sells them from her home. Favorite smartphone app Because I’m always dreaming about my next vacation, Hopper - the discount travel app is my favorite smartphone app. Hopper helps me justify a last minute holiday to a random destination all because I found a cheap flight (even if there are two layovers and it departs from BWI).

An idea turned into buying the perfect lot, creating a trendy logo and website, and building an amazing home! With 43 5-star reviews, LAO is rented all of next summer and into 2021!
Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud In 2017, we rebranded, giving me an opportunity to communicate my 2nd generation vision. We swapped our gate logo for a whimsical “B” icon. The gate communicated a closed message and I wanted those visiting Bluemont to feel the call of the new logo, inviting guests to the mountain to relax.
Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement My non-profit DWELLUS GIVES raised almost $250,000 for the DC Dream Center. We’ve raised support for Generosity Feeds, the Childhood Brain Tumor Foundation, Cornerstones (in Reston), This is My Brave, and Children’s National. Last year, my friends and I raised over $60,000 towards two charities -- the Wholehearted Foundation and the Last Well. Personal background and family information I grew up in Fairfax with my sister, Sarah and was active in church, Young Life, and sports. My father, a musician and educator, died in 2017. My mother is an organization and leadership development consultant. I attended UVA, majoring in Psychology and Spanish. I have lived in Lansdowne for 10 years with my three sons, Brayden, 10, Landon, 8, and Reid, 6. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you I benefited from two parents who were as opposite as night and day. Together they were a force for shaping who I am today. They are my coach, my cheerleader, and my mentor. Life is all about the hills and valleys, and knowing they were always available for a “pick me up” hug or to celebrate accomplishments, they allowed me to dream big and tackle life’s challenges. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Flying in a helicopter, going to the Super Bowl, Masters Golf Tournament, and Home Run Derby, and scuba diving with sharks are just a few things I’ve crossed off my forever bucket list. My passion for adventure will always drive me to new experiences. Next up, a hot air balloon ride, dogsledding, seeing the Aurora Borealis, and catching a game at Fenway! Most significant nonprofit work/community involvement As the Treasurer of the Loudoun Wineries Association (LWA), I quickly realized the 501c status had lapsed. I worked closely with our accountant to meet the tax requirements of the last 5 years in order to reinstate LWA’s non-profit status. This allowed us to host the Loudoun Wine Awards to raise money for member and education programs. Personal background and family information As #6 of 19 Zurschmeide grandchildren, I grew up at Great Country Farms (GCF) and have always loved being a part of the family business. At six, I stood on an apple crate to ring the register and introduced school tours to my chickens. After college, I came home to pursue my passion for entrepreneurship rooted in agritourism. Who do you consider a personal or professional mentor and how did that person help you Mark Zurschmeide, founder of GCF, has laid a foundation for continued innovation and purpose. He taught me that in owning your own business, there are endless opportunities to create and inspire. He has always encouraged me to seek the “Why” behind every decision, shaping the way I approach each day. Favorite hobby or activity, other than work and family Marathon training is my form of meditation. It is an activity that requires a large time commitment but affords me the opportunity to listen to podcasts to better my knowledge and perspective. I have found that this training allows me to clear my mind and work through challenging problems.
