Music can take any boating experience to the next level. That’s where marine stereos come in. A good boat stereo system lets you enjoy your favorite tunes without worrying about your roaring engine, the crashing waves, and other harsh sounds taking over. Built specifically for boats, marine stereo systems are designed to deliver high quality sound while you’re out on the water. Whether you’re in the market for your first boat stereo system or are thinking about upgrading your existing system, here’s what you need to know to find the right option for your boat—and your vibe.
What Are Boat Audio Systems?: Let’s start with the basics. A boat stereo system is made up of components like receivers, speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers, and wiring. Together, these parts work together to deliver the ideal blend of performance and durability.
What sets boat stereos apart from the systems in your car or home? Good question! In a word: durability. Compared to traditional stereos, marine stereo systems are engineered to withstand exposure to salt, water, sun and humidity. They are waterproof, resistant to UV rays, and feature anti-corrosion properties that help prevent deterioration.
Plus, because they are designed to deliver great sound in open-air environments, they are often more powerful. So, whether you’re blasting your favorite playlist, tuning into a podcast or listening to a radio station offshore, you’ll be able to hear it loud and clear—from anywhere on your boat.
Common Features of Marine Stereos: Not all boat stereos are created equal. In fact, you’ll find that products vary greatly as they’re intended to accommodate various budgets and needs. However, many quality systems include the following features:
Device Connectivity: If you’re like most people, you’ll want to use your smartphone or other device for your source of music. The good news is most boat stereos have a USB port or Bluetooth support that makes this a breeze. Before you select a system, however, confirm it plays nice with the device(s) you plan to use.
Satellite Radio: Enjoy offshore excursions? Look for a marine stereo system with satellite radio capabilities, specifically those that support SiriusXM. With satellite radio, you can tune in to music, sports, and radio stations, up to 200 miles offshore. In most cases, you’ll need to mount an external tuner and run the cable into the radio.
Remote Controls: Looking to control the tunes from anywhere on deck? While some boat stereos include remote controls, many sell them separately. These remotes are typically waterproof (some even float). Plus, they usually contain radiofrequency components, meaning they don’t have to be pointed at the stereo to work. This lets you mount your stereo in a watertight compartment and control your audio using the remote from anywhere on board.
How to Find the Right Boat Stereo: Now that you have working knowledge of what marine stereos are and how they work, it’s time
to talk about how to pick the right setup for your budget and preferences. Here are a few tips to steer you in the right direction:
Shop Around: Fortunately, there’s no shortage of boat stereos on the market. Do your research and check out options from leading brands such as Sony, Garmin, Fusion, Hertz, and JL Audio. Compare prices, features, and customer reviews to help you narrow down your search. And don’t hesitate to ask other boaters for their recommendations—what they love (or don’t) about their systems.
Balance Budget and Performance: Your ideal boat stereo setup depends on your priorities. Want concert-level clarity? Splurge on a top-of-the-line system. Just looking for reliable sound while anchoring with friends? Opt for a more economical setup that offers a great sound experience without all the bells and whistles. It’s up to you to decide how much you’d like to spend and what’s most important for your boating experience.
Consider Portable Speakers as a Backup: Even if your boat is already equipped with a stereo, portable, waterproof Bluetooth speakers are clutch. They’re great to have on hand as
a backup, to listen to your fave tunes on the docks or a sandbar—or even as a budget-friendly primary option. They’re versatile, reliable, and oftentimes affordable. Some of the best options out there include the EcoXgear Defender, Kicker BF100, and TurtleBox Original Gen 2.
Installation and Maintenance Tips: Once you’ve bought the perfect boat stereo, a proper install is key. Read the manual and follow the installation guide closely, and be sure to account for your boat’s layout and wiring, to ensure you’ll enjoy optimal sound quality and get the most out of your investment. Marine receivers are usually a standard single-DIN size and connect to a 12-volt battery. You can place the amplifiers and subwoofers under the seats or bow. If you’re unsure of where to place your electrical components or have any questions related to the installation, reach out to your manufacturer directly. Be sure to show your system a little love in the form of regular maintenance. Clean it regularly to prevent the buildup of dust and moisture. Compressed air can help you remove debris from the air vents and keep your stereo in tip-top shape for years to come.
Top-Quality Sound on the Water is Well Within Reach: Boating’s better with the right soundtrack. You don’t have to settle for a poor sound experience while boating. With the right boat stereo system (and/or boat speakers), you and your loved ones can enjoy crisp, quality audio every time you’re on the water. Do your research, compare your options, and trust your vibe to find the best setup for your style and your boat.
FORT MYERS, FL – July 28, 2025 — Golden Marine Systems has successfully completed Phase One of the new dock system at Tarpon Point Marina in Cape Coral, FL marking a major step forward in the waterfront property’s hurricane-resilient redevelopment. The project comes in response to the failure of the marina’s previous concrete dock system, which proved too rigid to endure the wind and wave energy from recent storm events.
Golden was selected for the project based on its proven track record of survivability in hurricane conditions. The new system features Golden’s 950 Series Double Track Aluminum Dock System, topped with brick paver decking—a combination that offers both stability and standout aesthetics.
The previous concrete docks couldn’t flex with the wave action, and as a result, they suffered significant damage. Golden’s system offers the flexibility and strength needed to protect the marinas investment and provide peace of mind during storm season.
Golden’s aluminum-framed 950 Series provides critical flexibility under load, helping the system move with storm-driven water instead of resisting it. The brick paver decking adds substantial mass for improved stability, while enhancing the overall appearance of the marina.
“We’re proud to complete Phase One of this important project,” said Michael Shanley, President of Golden Marine Systems. “This design reflects the perfect
balance between performance and presentation. With hurricane resilience and high-end finishes, the new docks set a new standard for coastal marina infrastructure.”
Phase Two of the Tarpon Point Marina redevelopment is scheduled to begin shortly after the new year.
Golden Marine Systems, based in North Fort Myers, Florida, continues to lead the marine infrastructure industry with highperformance floating docks, gangways, and accessories built to withstand the harshest coastal environments.
BYRON BAY, AUSTRALIA (July 30, 2025) – Following the launch of the new FLITELab* brand in 2024, today Flite, the world’s leading electric hydrofoil company and a brand of Mercury Marine (a division of Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC) announced that they will introduce the first product ranges to market on July 30, 2025.
FLITELab* features an innovative range of assisted and unassisted prone foil, wing and downwind boards, foils, and accessories designed to ride the impossible. The FLITELab* AMP_Boards and RAW_Boards, will be the first available to customers, with the Foils coming soon after, and additional products throughout 2025 and 2026.
“We’re excited to officially enter the rapidly growing foiling market and make our new FLITELab* products available for order,” said Nick Stickler, President of Flite. “FLITELab* features the same innovative product design, materials and patented technology that have become synonymous with Flite. The versatility of the range provides numerous ways for foilers to customize their ride in pursuit of catching the uncatchable wave.”
FLITELab* AMP Range: The FLITELab* AMP Range features the versatile AMP_Boards and the game-changing AMPJet, designed to provide foilers with unparalleled power and adaptability. It’s one system that can be used across the three disciplines – prone foiling, winging and downwinding. The boards feature a stiff, carbon construction layup for next
level performance and are suitable for both powered and unpowered rides. AMP_Boards are available in five sizes at launch: 4’2”, 4’6”, 4’8”, 5’0” and 5’8.
Ingeniously concealed within the AMP_Board’s cavity, the AMPJet is a self-contained, removeable and low maintenance cartridge, delivering optimal power for prone foilers, wingers, and downwind enthusiasts, to get up and riding with ease, regardless of the conditions. Strategic placement of the AMPJet ensures there’s no added drag, maintaining the board’s performance integrity throughout the entirety of the ride. AMPCell fly-safe 142Wh batteries can be customized by weight (one battery or two) and run time.
Embedded in the board’s nose is the LAUNCHPad which allows riders to activate the AMPJet for a power boost, while remaining virtually hands-free. The LAUNCHPad enables riders to customize the power strength and timing of the boost, while an intelligent feature monitors rider position, automatically cutting power once up on foil, or in the event of a fall. Additionally, the LAUNCHPad provides real-time session data through a vibrant display and the Flite App.
FLITELab* RAW Range: Complementing the AMP Range is FLITELab*s new unassisted RAW Range. The RAW_ Boards feature a unique, stiff, light, and responsive carbon construction layup that transfers all rider inputs direct to foil, for next level performance. The ultra refined shape offers a surf orientated ride that accelerates the board through the
water, so it paddles better for its size, while an exquisitely crafted, concave deck peaks at the rails, to maximise control and stance. World renowned foiler and FLITELab* team rider Adam Bennetts’ signature will appear on the 4’0 and 4’2 RAW_Boards, with additional boards available in sizes 4’4” and 4’6”.
FLITELab* Foils: Coming soon after launch FLITELab* will release its selection of innovative foils, including the UHM Mast and FLUX_Wings. The ultra-high modulus, carbon fiber, monocoque mast offers mind bending performance at just 13.5mm thickness. The integrated fuse has titanium conical interfaces for a super quick slide on / off of wing and fuse. It also means there is minimal wear on the system. Sizes include 82cm / 32.2in & 87cm / 34.2. Designed with prone and wing foilers in mind, the super-agile, mid aspect FLUX_Wings offer a surf-orientated ride, with exceptional carve and rail-to-rail performance. Incredible low end and ability to pump allow the rider to ride a size or two smaller than usual, plus they are super pitch stable and forgiving, for pushing turns harder. Available sizes will include Adam Bennetts signature wings 707, 808 & 1010 with more to sizes to come.

UNITED STATES COAST GUARD FLOTILLA 7-16 OFFERS SAFE BOATING CLASSES IN GULFPORT, FL, MEETS THE THIRD WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH. These classes qualify the attendee for the FWC Safe Boating Card. This card is required for most people born after January 1, 1988 to legally operate a power boat with greater than 10hp motor in Florida. The one-day class includes instruction on safety equipment, boat handling, rules of the road, navigation aids, communications, trailering, legal requirements and others. Power and sailboats are covered, as well as personal watercraft. Of course, besides making a boater in compliance, the main goal of the class is to create a safer boater. Classes are offered on the second Saturday of each month. To sign up, contact Marty Richardson at (630)674-5352. Flotilla 7-16 also performs free courtesy vessel safety inspections for power and sail boats, personal watercraft, and paddle craft. The inspector will come to your location, inspect the required safety features of your vessel, and if you pass will provide a safety sticker to mount on your vessel. The inspection is a courtesy, so no action is taken if problems are found. But the vessel owner then knows of any deficiencies to correct before having an accident or being sanctioned by the Coast Guard. To get more information or to schedule an inspection, contact Howard Bush at (305)731-3580. Anyone interested is invited to attend. Contact Flotilla Commander Howard Bush for more information at (305)731-3580.
A VESSEL SAFETY CHECK - STUARTDespite numerous COVID-19 restrictions, more and more boaters are taking to the water to alleviate at-home boredom while taking advantage of the open-air benefits and more pandemic-free aspects of recreational boating. But if you haven’t been out boating in a while, are your vessel’s lights operating properly? Do you have a sufficient number of life jackets for the number of passengers aboard? Is your engine’s ventilation system up to par? To get you started on a new year boating adventure, now may be a perfect time to consider getting a 2022 Vessel Safety Check (VSC) offered by certified VSC examiners from the St. Lucie River Power Squadron, also known as America’s Boating Club of Martin County. These trained VSC examiners from the local squadron will point out safety features such as minimum requirements required by the U.S. Coast Guard, examine fundamental mechanical aspects of your vessel, and answer questions how you can have more fun safely on the water. These are just a few of the many discussion points covered in this voluntary examination. As an added plus, Vessel Safety Checks are free to boat owners. And if you don’t “pass muster” with the thorough examination, the summary report is yours and yours alone. No record of any possible deficiencies will be reported to the USCG, state agency or any other authority. Want to know more about this complimentary Vessel Safety Check program? Contact Peter Burns at (772) 486-2684 or burnspet@aol.com. St. Lucie River Power Squadron, one of more
than 300 squadrons nationwide, also offers safe boating classes to the public. Check on their website, www.slrps.org, when classes will resume. Information about the parent organization is available at www.usps.org.

VESSEL SAFETY CHECKS AND SAFE BOATING CLASSES - A Vessel Safety Check is a complimentary check of your boat conducted by members of the Auxiliary, confirming that it meets both federal and state requirements for safety. No citations are issued, and the results of the safety check are not reported to any enforcement agency, but a decal is awarded to display when the vessel has passed the examination. The Vessel Safety Check (VSC) is performed at your boat, whether in a slip, at the launch ramp, or in your driveway, by a certified Vessel Examiner, at a mutually-convenient time. It usually takes 20-45 minutes, depending on the size of your boat. After successful inspection you are awarded a vessel safety check sticker which is affixed to your vessel near your state registration sticker. Call 727-898-1324 to find an inspector or go to www.cgaux.org/vsc/. Boating skills and Seamanship Programs ae presented by the USCG Auxiliary, Flotilla 72 each Tuesday night, 7:30-9:30 pm, 1300 Beach Drive, SE, St. Petersburg. Creatures of the Dark High temperatures and midday thunderstorms often turn many anglers into night creatures searching for their prey. Several advantages come into play; the night brings out the best in tarpon, snook, trout and black drum fishing and some tolerable conditions.
Fishing from shore Gandy Bridge St. Pete side fishing offers a great location for the whole family to spend several hours on a weekend catching fish. Boaters can launch either at the Courtney Campbell boat ramp or the Salty Sol boat ramp located one mile west of Westshore Blvd. on Gandy Blvd.
Skyway fishing pier offers light, good water movement and a nice family friendly atmosphere plus a large selection of fish species like grouper, flounder and mackerel.
The best fishing trip takes place for about a half hour after sundown through 2 a.m. Free lined live bait “meaning no weights are added” drifted under the lights will draw the attention of trout, snook and tarpon. Products on the market like the Hydro Glow Fish Light are designed to vertically suspend below the surface of the water radiating a bright green glow in all directions. This design utilizes 100% of the light generated by the light for the designed purpose, attracting fish. The bright fluorescent green light gets it effectiveness by attracting the entire aquatic food chain. From microscopic plankton to various sizes of minnow,
to many species of game fish. Boat manufacturers now use products like the Shadow Caster underwater lights that are built into the hull making them even more appealing.
Boaters can also take advantage of canal homes with dock lights following the same pattern. The live bait should be allowed to drift with the current flow from the shadow line into the light and back into the dark. Most important when dock fishing at night is to always respect the owner’s right to privacy and avoid loud noises by using the stealth system. That means being quiet!
Some of my favorite live baits, shad and greenback sardines both can be caught under the bridges at night with a bait cast net. Shrimp are on top of the food chain except summer months, they tend to be on the small size and are often rejected by the big fish. For tarpon pass crabs are tops on my list. Black drums and redfish have a hard time passing on fresh cut blue carbs present on the bottom by the bridge pilings.
Remenber to pick a spot with light or create your own using your boat underwater lights or Hydro Glow light. The light must be strong enough to draw small bait fish, be patient and they will come. Don’t overlook bottom fishing, I have caught snook; cobia black drum on a bottom rig while catching snook, trout and tarpon on the surface.
SW FLORIDA FISHING GUIDE: WHAT TO EXPECT THE NEXT FEW MONTHS
INSHORE; fishing should be good over the next couple of months, especially for Redfish and Snook. The ‘BULL’ Redfish should continue to move in during these hot months and remain throughout September. I know that a lot of anglers prefer Pilchards, but for Redfish I recommend large shrimps, quartered Blue Crabs, cut Pinfish and cut Ladyfish. The tides (together with rains) will be high offering access to more remote locations (Mangrove Islands) normally not accessible from late November thru early March.
Snook, larger Seatrouts together with Mangrove Snappers will be in and around these same remote Mangroves and Oyster Bars. Just get in there and move until you find the fish. I suggest for those preferring and targeting Snook to look to the passes, docks and beaches, ‘freelining’ Pilchards instead of shrimps for better results.
the stern of the boat just even with the shadow line (where the light from the bridge cast shadow) snook and tarpon cruise the dark side and strike the bait fish attracted to the light. The brighter the light you have the better chances of catching fish.
I recommend medium spinning tackle 15 to 20 test line 30-pound test leader with 2/0 hook for trout snook and redfish. Conventional tackle with 30-to-40pound test line 60-pound test leader and 5/0 hook for the Tarpon, black drum cobia and big redfish many caught can range in the 30to 40-pound range.
Black drums are plentiful this month, their favorite bait a half of a fresh blue crab which can be caught along the shoreline or purchased at the local bait and tackle stores.
In Tampa Bay I have found the Gandy and Howard Franklin bridges to be the most productive. The smaller bridges of the Courtney Campbell Causeway, Skyway and Fort Desoto area are top snook producers.
For more information you can visit FISHING ADVENTURES FLORIDA on YouTube with weekly local fishing information and our how-to segment Capt. Sergio Fishing Academy teaching new techniques and tackle to help you catch more fish.
Boaters need to anchor under the bridge with
It appears that the Redfish population is in good standing based on my sightings and catches. They are showing up in good numbers around the Mangrove Islands located north/northwest of the power lines in Pine Island Sound. There are a number of uninhabited Mangrove Islands to choose from in this ‘Theater’ which include MacKeever, Clam, Big Panther, Rat, Cat, Benedict, Josselyn, Wood and Black Keys, to name a few. Understand that there are a number of other islands, and locations in Matlacha Pass, Punta Rassa Charlotte Harbor and other ‘Theaters’ (areas) not addressed in this report.
area one intends to fish. Use a vessel that will get you in and out safely. If one is unsure of where to go and how best to get there safely, I suggest hiring a guide to take you around and show you. It’s a good investment as once one experiences that, they should be able to go and catch Redfish on their own.

During high summer tides, Semi-Bay boats will have access to some of these more productive Mangrove Islands. Be sure to move in and move out on the higher tide tables. The Caveat is to have some knowledge of the
OFFSHORE; longer offshore runs appear the be the ‘key’ to catching big Red Snapper and larger reef species such as, Yellowtail, Mangrove, Lane Snappers and bigger Groupers. The reports that I am receiving is 150180 feet of water. The closer reefs, wrecks and rubble bottom will produce some Pelagic and smaller species. However, those looking for the big Red Snapper should plan on the longer and deeper runs as mentioned above. Use big Pinfish for big Red Snapper baits!

It had been nearly a month since Tania and I had been offshore together. Saturday finally delivered the window we’d been waiting for, with clear skies, a light southeast breeze, and seas holding steady around two feet. We loaded up the boat with a couple of bags of ice, grabbed some lively shrimp from The Fishing Center, and hit the water early. By 7:00 a.m., we were heading out through the Ft. Pierce Inlet, greeted by a stunning sunrise that painted the sky in soft oranges and golds, the kind of start that makes every early morning worthwhile.
The run out to the Boils was a little bumpy as we punched straight into the waves, but the anticipation made the ride seem shorter than it was. We arrived around 7:30 am and began our first drift near the buoy, expecting the southeast wind to push us north. Instead, the stronger current took us south, so I repositioned us closer to the center of the Boils to line things up better.
Not even a minute after dropping her line, Tania hooked into a serious fish that immediately started peeling drag. I reeled in to help her, and on the way up, I got smashed by a bluefish that couldn’t resist my jig, making me the first to land a
fish that day, which is usually a curse for the boat, but Tania didn’t care as she had a real fight on her hands. After about ten minutes of working the fish, we finally saw color. It was a beautiful 15-pound permit. We couldn’t think of a better way to start the day.
Unfortunately, the boils were slow. We stayed on the Boils for the next few hours, marking plenty of fish but struggling to get them to bite. Tania stuck with her trusty Squidtrex, and I rotated through a few of my favorite 40G jigs, but nothing seemed to light them up. Just before 10:00 a.m., I landed a small shark, which sparked the decision to give the buoy one last try before heading back towards the inlet.
That final drift brought another burst of excitement. Both Tania and I had hits, though neither of us hooked up right away. Then, just as we were about to reel in, Tania connected with another big fish. Judging by the fight, I figured it was a shark, heavy, head shakes, long runs, but when it came into view, we were both shocked to see a 33-inch snook rise to the surface. It was an unexpected catch out there and a real highlight to cap off our morning at the Boils.
With the bite being slow, we decided to work our way
back in and stop at a few shallow reefs right off the beach near the inlet. Armed with four dozen shrimp, we bounced around structure and had a blast catching fish on light tackle. Over the next hour or so, we went through all of our bait, catching around ten different species — everything from snapper, grunts, margates, porgies, and bluefish. It wasn’t wide-open action, but it was steady and fun, and it reminded us how much life those nearshore reefs can hold when you slow down and fish them right.
We pulled back up to the dock feeling tired but satisfied. It had been a long time since we were able to get offshore, and though the bite wasn’t non-stop, the day delivered some truly memorable catches. Between the permit, the snook, and the variety of fish on the reefs, it was exactly the kind of trip Tania and I live for.
Tania and I send our best wishes to all fellow anglers. May your fishing adventures be safe, blessed, and filled with tight lines and good times! Until next time, keep casting and chasing those dreams on the water.
