Many of our readers may have noticed that our Instagram and Facebook pages are inaccessible. This is Meta’s response to the federal Bill C-18, or the Online News Act, which requires tech companies to compensate news organizations for using their links. In response, Meta, along with Google, has announced that it will be blocking news content for Canadians, including student newspapers like the Manitoban. Despite this, we want to make clear that we are still here. While it may be hard to find us on social media, and while we expect we may stop showing up in Google searches, readers can scan this QR code and they will be taken straight to our website, which is updated weekly with campus and local news content.
