After starting up in a container at the Remarkables Park area, just over a year ago, Paul and Tash are excited to bring Paulies Fish n Chips to Arrowtown, 'Good Old Kiwi Fish n Chips'. Paulies is a small family owned and operated business. Starting with a Fish n Chip shop in the Remarkables park area, they got so much support from the locals, that they made the push to grow and opened another trailer on Gorge Road. With continued support and two outlets going well, when an opportunity opened up in Arrowtown it was thought it to be time to open one for the locals here too. With a good following of customers, who would travel from Arrowtown to Queenstown for their Fish n Chips, there was a good customer base in place. They pride themselves on making sure everyone gets affordable food of the highest quality, no shortcuts. Products are sourced from many suppliers to find the freshest fish daily. They also make their own sauces and relishes and then there is their secret batter mix, all complementing the burgers. Childhood memories of 'Friday Night Fish n Chip Night' served in good old paper wraps are evoked. Their motto is "Cook it once, cook it well and our food will sell itself". The AVA Annual General Meeting will be on Thursday 29 October, 7.30 pm in the Community Room (beside Tennis Courts), Centennial Ave. The AVA has a valuable role in representing our whole community in matters of interest. Come along and hear an update of the past year, bring your feedback and questions. A guest speaker on topical local issues will be confirmed. If you have an interest in finding out more about joining the committee please make contact. A community member with secretarial skills is one role for example that a new committee member could fill. see some work needing to be done?

aroha string quartet Arrowtown Creative Arts Society is showcasing the Aroha String Quartet on Sunday 18 October at 5.00 pm. The Aroha String Quartet is firmly established as one of New Zealand's finest chamber music ensembles. In their Phantasy programme Aroha String Quartet is joined by Robert Orr, NZSO Principal Oboe, for two British works for oboe and strings: Britten's Phantasy Quartet Op 2 - the first piece that brought him international recognition - and Bliss's gorgeous Oboe Quintet. Also in the Phantasy programme the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth is celebrated with his first "Rasumovsky" String Quartet, No 7 in F Op 59 No 1. The fourth work in this programme is Refrain a composition by award-winning New Zealand composer, Alex Taylor. Aroha String Quartet, 5 pm, Sunday 18 October in the Athenaeum Hall. 2 cups mixed raw nuts 2 Tbsp olive oil 1 tsp finely ground espresso 2 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp salt 2 tsp ground nutmeg 1 tsp ground cloves Generous pinch of cayenne pepper Preheat oven to 180°. Line a baking tray with baking paper. Toss all ingredients together in a bowl ensuring all nuts are evenly coated. Place in the oven for 10 minutes until lightly toasted.

flower show It was a great turn out this year, "The community really enjoyed the show with lots of lovely comments, perhaps as a consequence of COVID, events like our Flower Show seem to bring the community together more", says Jane Brough from the Flower Show committee. The flower entries were beautiful. The baking, craft and photography sections were wonderful this year in both children and adult sections and Jean Britton, the amazing hardworking President, managed to bring together a fantastic display on the stage with contributions/displays by The Heritage Rose Society, the Embroiderers Guild, Quilters Club, The Wakatipu Garden Club, and the Wakatipu Woodcraft Guild showcasing the fantastic variety of talents in our district. As always the childrens’ artwork and fairy gardens were wonderfully creative and an important part of the show. Several local artists also had stalls which added to the success and variety of this year’s show. Wendy Clarke said, "Every year our show gets bigger and better. We had wonderful support from contributors and the public, people commenting that it was a proper old fashioned flower show. This year many people who had never exhibited before won prizes. I believe Spring had a special significance this year." Proceeds of the show will be donated to local charities in the near future as done every year. 11
