arrowtown art union exhibition More than 25 Wakatipu artists are emerging from lockdown to share their work at the Lakes District Museum Gallery. Sue Marshall of the Arrowtown Creative Arts Society, which is sponsoring the exhibition, says the artists will ‘bring out their dead’ and show new artworks too. Along with the chance to view art in a range of media, you will also be able to meet the artists whose work is on display. Every Sunday from June 14 at 3 pm, three of the artists will each talk for 15 minutes about their practice and the work they’re showing. It promises to give a fascinating insight into the mind of the artist, and Q & A will be encouraged. ‘We have all been locked up and need to stretch our legs and minds by supporting our local creatives,’ says Sue. ‘Have a family outing and support the museum, local artists and our cafés.’ The Arrowtown Art Union Exhibition runs from 12 June to 31 July at the museum gallery. Proceeds from any sales are shared between the artists and the museum’s seismic strengthening project.

arrowtown village association news clean air project
It is obvious with the colder weather arriving that our village is once again producing smoke! The Clean Air project which the AVA is associated with has been on hold due to Covid-19 but NIWA has advised that now Level 2 is here the monitoring project at Arrowtown (as well as some other local areas) will shortly re-commence. Outdoor monitors will be appearing in the next few weeks. Check out various NIWA initiatives and information on their website niwa.co.nz. For example, you can now download the NIWA Citizen Science app to record observations, or read a blog from a scientist's perspective at cona-nz.blogspot.com. Results of last year's Arrowtown monitoring will be on the NIWA website soon. The Otago Regional Council continues to raise its efforts also, last year by identifying and contacting 89 properties with smoky chimneys. As we move into winter, anybody in the community is encouraged to please report any smoky chimneys to ORC’s Air Pollution Hotline 0800 800 033 or take photos and email with details to pollution@orc.govt.nz The AVA would like to express a special thank you to the Arrowtown Clean Air and Warm Homes trust, which after many years of hard work has wound up.
