A change of layout has spurred a flurry of new stalls at the Arrowtown Farmers Market, reopening this weekend. Market chairman Michael White says they're now at capacity preChristmas. 'We’re delighted our Sunday markets are going to be particularly vibrant this season.' There will be a wide variety of local food and produce stalls, with the addition of a few craft stalls. To make this Sunday special, just before 10 am the town crier will lead the Buckingham Belles to the Library Green, where Councillor Heath Copland will declare the season open. There will also be face painting, a bouncy castle, live music, historical walking tours and, of course, some special offers just for locals.
Pack your togs and get down to Arrowtown Memorial Pool! The covers came off on 30 September, more than two months earlier than normal and with a new heating system in place. Even without high temperatures, the water has been steadily increasing towards its target point of 28°C and warmer nights will certainly help. Several hundred hardy locals have already been enjoying some early season fun and everyone is looking forward to another awesome summer at the open-air community facility. Alpine Aqualand, the aquatic facility at Queenstown Events Centre is closed for repairs until the end of March and some regular training groups have made the shift across to Arrowtown. They have dedicated lanes at specific times, usually before and after work and school, but at least two lanes are reserved for public swimming at all times every day (there are usually more!). You can see a daily timetable showing when different lanes are free for public swimming online at sportrec.qldc.govt.nz/swim/ arrowtown-pool. Until Alpine Aqualand reopens, Arrowtown Memorial Pool will be open 6 am to 7 pm weekdays and 10 am to 6 pm weekends. Give the pool crew a call on 03 442 0145 if you’d like any further information. arrowtown village association news tobins face revegetation trial
Over September the Arrowtown Choppers trial replanting was completed on Tobins Face, with 300 exotic colour trees planted above and below the road by volunteers. We will now wait to see how they and the 600 natives planted in autumn fare over the growing season so we can determine the best species for wider-scale revegetation. More details about the wider wilding and revegetation strategy will be outlined at our AGM next week. predator free arrowtown
With the recent masting event there is abundant seed for rats and mice. We’ve refreshed the bait on all our lines behind the town in preparation for a likely explosion in stoat and ferret numbers as a result.
