Project Red Serge: join the RCMP now!

July 16, 2026 - City of Prince George, British Columbia

From: Prince George RCMP

BC RCMP and Yukon RCMP have launched a new recruiting process called Project Red Serge, which will allow all police officer applications from BC and Yukon to be processed, from intake to troop placement, right from your home province or territory. This new process will move key early screening tools (such as the Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and indices checks) earlier in the process and will encourage greater communication between recruiters and applicants, as well as improve application processing times.

Prince George RCMP is excited to announce a recruitment information session for those interested in Project Red Serge and learning more about what it takes to become a member of the RCMP. The information session is open to all ages, because it’s never too early or too late to learn about a police officer career! The information session will be held at the City Police Detachment at 455 Victoria Street on July 21, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Here are some FAQs about joining the RCMP:

Q. What are the minimum qualifications to join?

A. You must be a Canadian Citizen or have three years’ Permanent Resident Status; be at least 18 years old; be proficient in English or French; have a valid, unrestricted Canadian driver’s license; and possess a Canadian high school diploma or equivalent.

Q. How long is the training and where is it held?

A. The training is 26 weeks long and is held at our National Training Facility (Depo) in Regina, Saskatchewan. We pay for all of your accommodations while you are there, including food and lodging.

Q. Can I come back to Prince George?

A. While we can’t guarantee that you come back to Prince George, BC RCMP is currently promoting their Northern Recruiting Initiative and is looking for applicants interested in living and policing within Northern B.C. The BC RCMP provides policing services to a number of rural, coastal and urban communities, from 100 Mile House to the Yukon border and from Haidi Gwaii to the Alberta border. Those applicants interested in returning to Northern B.C. will be guaranteed a placement in Northern B.C.

Clean Your Grill

Grilling Tips: 10 Tiny Changes to Improve Your Grill Skills

It’s not the most exciting task, but keeping those grates clean is essential. Extra residue can cause food to stick, cling to unwanted flavors, or worse start a grease fire, one of the biggest grilling safety mistakes. To avoid serious buildup, clean your grill grates regularly.

Cut Notches in Your Steaks

To stop grilled steaks from getting that dreaded curl, the Char-Broil Great Book of Grilling suggests adding a few small notches to the fat areas before putting them on the grill. They’ll be perfectly flat and ready for a slab of compound butter.

Don’t Form Burger Patties Too Tightly

Our Test Kitchen finds that loosely formed burger patties retain their juices better while grilling. So don’t worry too much about packing the meat into perfect circles–how you cook them is more important. That’s just one of the most common burger mistakes we see.

Use a Two-Zone Fire

You can create direct and indirect heat zones on your grill by putting coals under just one half. That way, part of the grill is devoted to direct-heat cooking, while the other half is perfect for indirect cooking at lower temperatures.

Our thoughts are with all of you at this challenging time

ANSWER ON PG 24

What gets bigger the more you take away?

TAURUS (Apr. 21-May 20)

Don’t be tempted to over-extend yourself when it comes to either home or family matters or something you want to put into place. Take a serious approach to the obligations attached and lower them rather than increase them. Focus your mind on what can be enjoyed. Some may decide to take up and interest or a hobby.

LEO (July 23-August 22)

New beginnings for you could be as a result of big changes or endings involving other people. This could put you in a situation of having unlimited opportunities for the future. You need to be realistic about what should be your more important priorities. This has to be decided by you and not through pressure applied to you.

SCORPIO (Oct.23-Nov21)

The realisation that rather than let your obligations keep increasing you should start to wind some of them back so that you establish a good foundation that gives you time on a regular basis to relax and perhaps pay more attention to your health. This might also include freeing yourself up in some ways to what is expected from others..

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb.18)

A situation between you and somebody else or others in general can begin to have a transformative effect which could generate much pleasure in your life in ways you have not experienced before. Any health matters that have not been on a steady path since late June should now begin to settle down from now to early August.

GEMINI

(May 21-June 20)

You could feel extremely restless and come up with all sorts of ideas however you need to be realistic about what is manageable. It won’t be possible to completely erase certain commitments. You have to factor them into your life. Something you have found difficult to understand could suddenly start to make more sense.

VIRGO

(August 23-Sept.22)

You can establish a balanced view on the best way to move forward, from now to early August, when it comes to decisions that need to be made in your best interest. This can bring an end to hold-ups or uncertainties that may have been the case since late June. You could be surprised at the ease in which matters can be organised.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov.22-Dec.21)

Opportunities can begin to open up where the future is concerned which could bring you into contact with some very interesting people. This might challenge your thinking in some way but you should not let that lower your self confidence. If you don’t understand something, don’t be afraid to ask for clarity as sometimes people can presume too much.

CANCER (June 21-July 22)

You can now go ahead with your decisions up to 10th August especially anything related to you on a personal level, with Mercury, the planet of thought and communication moving forward in your sign. You could see matters in a more balanced way right now. This can be connected to what can be realistically afforded.

LIBRA (Sept.

23-Oct.22)

You can get all the attention you may want, especially if you feel something needs to be brought to an end or wound up. Situations involving other people and where you want to head with this in the future can be pursued openly, though you could meet with some caution to begin with. Decisions on your obligations can now be made.

CAPRICORN

(Dec. 22-Jan.19)

Decisions other people make from now to early August can be relied upon into the future whereas you have probably had to cope with all sorts of changes of mind from others since late June. Get back to anything you have had to put to one side because of the need to deal with other matters. With focus, you can accomplisha lot.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)

If you realise something is becoming too much on a regular basis, now is the time to seriously address this. If this entails communication with others, you are now in a better position than you have been since late June to move forward to early August. This is also a good time to establish some give and take between yourself andothers.

ARIES

(March 21-April 20)

Matters can fall into place easily, as long as you are clear on what needs to be a priority. If there are any difficult discussions you need to have, now would be the time to initiate them, especially if this involves greater choice or freedom to do what you enjoy. You can move forward with any home or family plans up to early August.

Maintain a healthy weight

A few years back, a study from the Association for Pet Obesity found that a whopping 61 percent of cats and 59 percent of dogs are overweight. Those are pretty alarming numbers, and point to why exercise and nutrition are so crucial to your pet feeling their best. If you’re unsure what your pet’s ideal weight should be, check with your vet. (If your pet is still in their early years, consult our cat weight guide or puppy weight chart for rules of thumb regarding their weight.)

Special Olympics Prince George Honours Dee Neukomm with Inaugural Spirit of Inclusion Award

Prince George, B.C. – Special Olympics Prince George proudly presented the inaugural Special Olympics Prince George Spirit of Inclusion Award to longtime volunteer and coach Dee Neukomm during the organization’s Year End Barbecue and celebration of its 40th Anniversary

Established by the Special Olympics Prince George Athlete Leadership Council, the Spirit of Inclusion Award recognizes an individual who demonstrates an unwavering commitment to inclusion, respect, acceptance, and creating opportunities for athletes of all abilities to thrive. The award will now be presented annually.

There was no more fitting recipient for the inaugural honour than Dee Neukomm. As one of the founders of Special Olympics programming in Prince George more than four decades ago, Dee has dedicated countless hours to building the local movement and enriching the lives of athletes. Today, she continues to coach with the same passion, compassion, and commitment that helped establish the program in its earliest days.

Through her leadership, encouragement, and belief in every athlete’s potential, Dee has embodied the true spirit of inclusion and has inspired generations of athletes, volunteers, and families.

“Dee Neukomm has helped shape Special Olympics Prince George into the welcoming and inclusive community it is today,” said Peter Goudal, Local Coordinator for Special Olympics Prince George. “For more than 40 years, she has led with kindness, dedication, and an unwavering belief in our athletes. She represents everything this award stands for, making her a truly deserving recipient of our very first Spirit of Inclusion Award.”

The presentation was one of the highlights of the organization’s 40th Anniversary celebration, recognizing both the remarkable history of Special Olympics in Prince George and the volunteers whose dedication continues to make the program possible.

Special Olympics Prince George offers year-round sport, health, and leadership opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities, creating an inclusive community where individuals can develop skills, build friendships, and reach their full potential.
