Drone, police service dog used to track break and enter suspect

February 9, 2026 - City of Prince George, British Columbia

From: Prince George RCMP

Police officers in Prince George are always looking for innovative ways to track suspects when a crime has occurred and last week was no exception, when a blend of tactics helped to track a break and enter suspect.

The investigation began on February 5, 2026, at around 8:30 p.m., when police received multiple reports of a vehicle crashing into the sidewalk near Ferry Avenue and Highway 16 west. The driver of the vehicle was seen running away from the incident site. This vehicle was later found to have been stolen just a short time prior to the crash occurring.

Just a short time later, police received a report of a residential break-and-enter where the suspect had run into an occupied home on Watson Crescent and was scared off by the homeowner. The homeowner reported seeing the suspect, who was described as wearing similar clothing as the driver from the crash, flee into her backyard.

Investigators enlisted the help of our Police Service Dog unit, who began to track the suspect on foot. They also deployed a drone to assist with tracking from above the neighbourhood.

“When the drone located an individual moving quickly through the area, the police officer was able to relay this information to the police service dog team, who could

then quickly narrow down the scope of their search,” states Corporal Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP. “This blend of tactics enabled police to locate the suspect rapidly, before he had the opportunity to enter any more homes or vehicles.”

The suspect, identified as 53-year-old, Prince George resident Micheal Dean Burger, was arrested a and held for court. While in police custody it was discovered that Mr. Burger had an unendorsed arrest warrant in his name and was in breach of a current probation order. Police officers are familiar with Mr. Burger for similar offenses.

Mr. Burger has been charged with the following in relation to this event:

• Break and enter and theft

• Break and enter with the intent to commit an indictable offense

• Theft of motor vehicle

• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

• Resisting arrest

• Fail to comply with release order

Mr. Burger will remain in custody until his next court appearance.

The Victim Services unit will be working closely with all those effected by these events. Police officers would like to thank all of those who reported these incidents and provided timely information to our investigators.
