The Lakes District Senior Citizen Housing Association (LDSCHA) would like to provide an update to the community regarding our proposed new seniors housing development in the Lakes District.
Like many non-profit housing providers across British Columbia, our project has been placed on hold following the Province’s decision to suspend the Community Housing Fund (CHF) intake process. This project was intended to help address the growing housing crisis facing seniors in our region.
The need for safe and affordable housing for seniors in the Lakes District continues to grow. Our current buildings are fully occupied and the waiting list continues to increase. Rural communities like ours often face higher construction costs and fewer funding opportunities, which makes provincial housing programs critical for moving projects like this forward.
While the suspension of the CHF program has created uncertainty, LDSCHA remains committed to this project. We will continue exploring every possible funding opportunity and partnership to help move this development forward for our community.
Affordable housing for seniors is not just a housing issue it is a community issue. When seniors are able to remain in safe, stable housing in the communities they helped build, our entire community benefits.
How the community can help:
We encourage residents who believe in this project to make their voices heard. Letters and emails from community members help demonstrate to the Province how important rural housing projects like this are.

The fifth Coffee House of the season, sponsored by The Burns Lake Music Society, is scheduled for Friday, February 27th at the Burns Lake Heritage Church on First Avenue. Doors open at 6:30 pm, with the first performer on stage at 7:00 pm.
Admission is by donation, and there will be coffee and tea and treats provided.

The Burns Lake Legion is looking for volunteer help on Fridays from 5 PM - 8 PM…..also on Saturday evenings! We are in search of servers for our dinner hours; this includes serving dinners, removing plates, wiping down tables, possibly preparing salads if need be, and wrapping cutlery if needed….NO DISH WASHING!!! from local and regional artists to exhibit their work
at The Heritage Gallery in Burns Lake
The Burns Lake Museum Society is now accepting proposals from local or regional artists to exhibit their work from June to September 2026.
Feel you're not ready for a one-person show? Only have one or two pieces available? You can always share space with other artists. Not a painter? Doesn't matter - the Heritage Gallery has displayed everything from sculpture to fabric art! Or you might consider exhibiting at Arts August (August 2026), an event that accepts one or more pieces of art by local and regional artists in any medium on any subject matter.
So what are you waiting for? The application process is simple, there are no exhibition fees, and you can sell your work on commission during the event!
Share your passion, talent, and vision with the community and become one of more than 50 creators who have displayed their work in the Heritage Gallery since its creation in 2020!
