About the Role
We are seeking two log truck driving positions with a minimum of 3 years of experience to join our team in the Burns Lake area. The ideal candidate will have both highway and off-highway log hauling experience and a strong commitment to safety and efficiency.
Responsibilities- Safely operate log truck on highways and resource/off-highway roads - Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections- Ensure loads are properly secured and comply with regulations- Follow all company safety policies and procedures Communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members.
Report mechanical issues or hazards promptly.

Seniors Golf has started at Houston’s Willowgrove Golf Course. Everyone 55 and over are very welcome every Thursday. Special rates of $30 green fees and $25 cart rentals, lunch optional for $20. Burns Lake Heritage Gallery:
A trio of local artists exhibit during the month of June
The Heritage Gallery in the Visitor Information Centre on Highway 16 presents 'The Results of Our Brush with Art' exhibition, which features the work of Sybille Broten, Sandra deHoog, and Ljiljana Seslija, June 1st to June 25th. The artists' reception is being held on Thursday, June 4th between 6:00 pm and 7:30 pm at the Heritage Gallery. The gallery is open when the Visitor Information Centre is open: Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. The exhibition is sponsored by Chinook Community Forest. Watch for posters around town and check the Lakes District Museum Society Facebook page for more information.

The 27th annual National Indigenous People’s Day Celebration is organized the year again by the Burns Lake Native Development Corporation. National Indigenous People’s Day will happen at Spirit Square on Sunday, June 21st. Met Opera Live in HD: ‘El Ùltimo Sueño de Frida y Diego’ at
The Beacon Theatre
The sixth and final opera in the 25/26 Met Opera season, co-presented by the Arts Council and The Beacon Theatre, is a new opera about Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and muralist Diego Rivera. The broadcast takes place on Sunday, June 21st at 1:00 pm sharp at The Beacon Theatre.
American composer Gabriela Lena Frank makes her Met debut with her first opera, a magical-realist portrait of Mexico’s painterly power couple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, with libretto by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Nilo Cruz. Fashioned as a reversal of the Orpheus and Euridice myth, the story depicts Frida, sung by leading mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard, leaving the underworld on the Day of the Dead and reuniting with Diego, portrayed by baritone Carlos Álvarez. The famously feuding pair briefly relive their tumultuous love, embracing both the passion and the pain before bidding the land of the living a final farewell. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the Met premiere of Frank’s opera, a “confident, richly imagined score” (The New Yorker) that “bursts with color and fresh individuality” (Los Angeles Times). The vibrant new production, taking enthusiastic inspiration from Frida and Diego’s paintings, is directed and choreographed by Deborah Colker, following her remarkable 2024 debut staging of Ainadamar.
Tickets for the Met operas this season will be $15.00 each, and are available starting at 12:30 pm at The Beacon Theatre box office the day of the performance. Look for LDAC ads coming soon in the Lakes District News and The Local Connector NW.

Canada Day at Spirit Square
Celebrate Canada Day on Wednesday, July 1st at Spirit Square starting at 11:00 am sharp, with dignitaries from the Village of Burns Lake and local musicians. The Lakes District Community Choir will be on stage starting at 11:00 am with ‘O Canada’ plus special guests the Burns Lake Community Band, after the Choir's musical numbers. Warren and Gail Chapman will follow, and Bamalong will close Canada Day. The Village will offer special treats. Look for advertisements in the Lakes District News closer to Canada Day.

Description: Wander along the banks of the Nourse Creek Trail, rising altitude for spectacular scenic vistas over Francois Lake. Observe the magnificent cascading waterfalls 1.5 kms from the trail head; hike another 1.9 km you will find the second set of waterfalls bubbling and churning over the carved rock of the stream bottom.
