The Heritage Gallery is located at 540 Highway 16 West, next to the Visitor Information Centre and across from CNC. Heritage Gallery hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, subject to the schedule of the Visitor Information Centre. There is no admission charge for this event, and the exhibition is made possible with the assistance of Heritage Canada’s Museum Assistance Program.
“BC’s history is as varied as its people,” says Lakes District Museum curator Michael RiisChristianson. “The exhibition tells in part the important stories and contributions of Black British Columbians, and we’re proud to host it in the Heritage Gallery.”
Dear Residents, Board Members, Staff, and Partners of Burns Lake Community Forest,
After 9 years and 6 months of serving as General Manager of Burns Lake Community Forest, and COMFOR Management Services Ltd, the time has come for me to move on to the next chapter in my professional journey. My last day will be February 12th, 2026.
It has been an extraordinary privilege to lead this remarkable organization and work alongside such a dedicated community. The Team that I have built, accomplished so much together.
• Expanded sustainable forestry practices across the K1A licence area
• Successfully secured in excess of $4 million dollars in funding for landscape wildfire activities, habitat restoration and public access improvements
• Delivered on key indicators for Forest Stewardship Council certification in environmental, ecological, cultural, social and financial principles of the community forest program as envisioned by licence document.
• Launched popular community programs including firewood program, youth education initiatives, and the annual Burns Lake Forest Open House & BBQ event
• Strengthened partnerships with local schools, non-for-profit groups, and indigenous communities
• Maintained fiscal responsibility while enhancing the resources provided by the forest licence,
• Bringing substantial innovation and leadership to an organization now provincially recognized as a leader in area base tenure management, through the many projects and programs we implemented. Landscape Wildfire Reduction efforts, Mountain Pine Beetle Mitigation Strategies, Commercial Thinning utilizing micro machinery to name just a few.
In the end, reinventing the principles of fiber utilization annually to support our local milling facilities and contract teams all while bring local management to a local resource.
None of this would have been possible without the passion and commitment of our exceptional staff, the guidance of previous Board of Directors, the generosity of our volunteers, and the unwavering support of the Burns Lake community. You have made this forest not just a managed resource, but a true community treasure.
I am confident that Burns Lake Community Forest is stronger and more resilient than ever, with a clear vision to carry the mission forward, and while I am saddened to say goodbye, I leave with immense gratitude and pride in what we have built together.
Thank you for the trust you placed in me and for the countless memories. Please continue to care for this special place as fiercely as it has cared for us.
