What is your business and your role there? I have worked for Sarasota Memorial Health Care System for 23 years and currently serve as the President for Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s Sarasota Campus. for Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The health system offers Southwest Florida’s greatest breadth and depth of care.
As Lakewood Ranch continues to grow economically, how has your business responded? We monitor Lakewood Ranch very closely to ensure that we are meeting the needs of the community. As a result, we have added five different campuses in the area that collectively provide a broad array of services, and have all experienced strong yearover-year growth.
This year and last, what have been some of the biggest “wins” your business has experienced? We opened our new freestanding ER at Lakewood Ranch. We also have an approved plan for North Port’s first hospital. On our expanding Sarasota campus, we opened the Kolschowsky Research and Education Institute. Early next year, we are opening the Milman-Kover Cancer Pavilion.
Were “wins” in 2025 different from past years? 2025 marks our 100th year of serving our community. Today, we are among the largest community-owned health systems with more than 1,100 beds at our two hospitals. We’re also the region’s largest employer, with nearly 11,000 staff.
How have you seen the landscape of your industry change over the last five to ten years in the area? The influx of people and businesses has completely transformed the area, and we are moving full steam ahead with our plans to expand our services and facilities to meet the enormous demand for care.
For your business and the region, what do you believe is in store next year – and years to come – with regard to growth and success? Over the next year, we’re moving forward with expanding inpatient and outpatient services, and are focused on expanding our network of physician specialists. We’re not just planning for the next year – we’re looking forward to our next 100 years.

Our services have evolved with the needs of the community, whether that’s assisting homeowners with upgrades or helping commercial clients bring their visions to life. This growth has pushed us to continually innovate and raise our standards to better serve our expanding client base.
This year and last, what have been some of the biggest “wins” your business has experienced? We’ve had the honor of restoring several historical structures throughout the region. We’ve also taken on exciting new developments, including the engineering and construction of schools, churches, and a variety of commercial buildings.
Were “wins” in 2025 different from past years?
We’re navigating a tighter economic cycle. Rather than focusing on new construction, there’s been a noticeable pivot toward renovations, additions, and strategic upgrades. It’s allowed us to lean into our strengths in adaptive design and value-driven solutions.
How have you seen the landscape of your industry change over the last five to ten years in the area? When capital is readily available, we see a surge in new construction. During tighter financial cycles, the emphasis often pivots toward restorations, renovations, and additions. At the same time, clients are more focused on long-term value, efficiency, and sustainability than they were ten years ago.
For your business and the region, what do you believe is in store next year – and years to come – with regard to growth and success? The momentum we’ve seen isn’t just about new development – it’s about the strength of the entire ecosystem that supports it. Continued expansion creates opportunities for the core construction trades, and a wide range of supplemental and industry-adjacent businesses.

What is your business and your role there? Williams Parker is a full-service law firm with offices in Sarasota and Lakewood Ranch. My practice is focused primarily on corporate and transactional matters, and I work with business owners and executives and help with acquisitions, sales, joint ventures, corporate governance, and succession planning. I also serve as legal counsel for some of our region’s civic organizations and non-profits.
As Lakewood Ranch continues to grow economically, how has your business responded? We recently opened an office at Waterside Place. Williams Parker also remains very engaged with the Alliance and other organizations that work to support our local companies and strengthen our economy.
This year and last, what have been some of the biggest “wins” your business has experienced? We are celebrating our 100th anniversary this year through our “Giving Back” initiative and other programs. Also, our firm and employees are partnering with local charities to help with several volunteer projects across the region.
Were “wins” in 2025 different from past years? We completed our first full year in our new downtown Sarasota office at Five Points. We have many cherished memories from our “old” building, but we look forward to the next chapter with our new office and our office at Waterside Place.
How have you seen the landscape of your industry change over the last five to ten years in the area? We have witnessed a significant increase in the number of business owners relocating their companies to Sarasota and Manatee counties and entrepreneurs who are pursuing new ventures here.
For your business and the region, what do you believe is in store next year – and years to come – with regard to growth and success? We anticipate continued growth and success for the region in 2026 and beyond. We are excited for the future, and our law firm is grateful to grow with the community.

What is your business and your role there? Oh What Fun is an event décor and design business that transforms spaces. As the founder, owner, and lead designer, I handle everything from research and design to construction and integration.
As Lakewood Ranch continues to grow economically, how has your business responded? My business has adapted by embracing flexibility and tailoring solutions to each client. With more businesses, organizations, and community events emerging, I’ve been able to diversify services and collaborate with local vendors to meet the increased demand.
This year and last, what have been some of the biggest “wins” your business has experienced? They’ve been moments where art and community intersect. Having a stranger show me photos of an OWF display that became part of their family’s memories. To have people circulating images of something I created is a powerful affirmation that my art is connecting with the community.
Were “wins” in 2025 different from past years? My work is now about crafting immersive environments. The focus has shifted from simply filling a space to creating interactive designs that engage people on a more meaningful level.
How have you seen the landscape of your industry change over the last five to ten years in the area? Events have evolved into multi-sensory experiences. The rise of social media has amplified the importance of visual impact, and with faster access to tools and materials, designers now have the freedom to bring once-impossible ideas to life.
For your business and the region, what do you believe is in store next year – and years to come – with regard to growth and success? The future lies in creating spaces and events that inspire. Our vision is to keep pushing the boundaries of event design and form partnerships with local companies to increase resources, so every project becomes both a celebration of the moment and a lasting imprint on the community’s identity.

What is your business and your role there? I am the Event Manager at Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation, a nonprofit organization. My role includes managing all aspects of planning and logistics for our fundraising events, including onsite management and execution.
As Lakewood Ranch continues to grow economically, how has your business responded? July 2024 marked the re-launch of the FCSF in Lakewood Ranch. A new two-story building opened in November 2019 which houses the Foundation. The Foundation offices have grown from a staff of four to ten, and we have awarded over $16 million to cancer patients in need, including in Lakewood Ranch.
This year and last, what have been some of the biggest “wins” your business has experienced? In 2024, close to $2.2 million in financial aid was provided, helping 1,100 adult cancer patients and their families. In addition, alongside the Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute, we established the FCS One Team Fund to assist employees who experienced financial emergencies or unexpected expenses during the hurricane in 2022 and three hurricanes in 2024.
Were “wins” in 2025 different from past years? We are seeing more people with cancer each year who need financial assistance. Our win is the ability to help those in need with their rent or mortgage payments, auto expenses and utilities during their time of need.
How have you seen the landscape of your industry change over the last five to ten years in the area? There has been an increase in referrals for financial aid from health centers throughout Florida. Cancer does not discriminate, and the need continues to grow with increased medical costs as well as increased costs of goods and housing.
For your business and the region, what do you believe is in store next year – and years to come – with regard to growth and success? Continued growth due to increased cases of cancer referrals and people moving to Florida.

GROUNDBREAKINGS TO GRAND OPENINGS
For Lakewood Ranch, rapid growth continues, evidenced beyond national rankings and headlines. Cranes, construction and “coming soon” signage have transformed into stunning educational attractions, state-of-the-art centers for medical services and thriving venues for professional sports teams. Spanning the final months of 2025 through 2026, progress isn’t just visible – it’s opening doors and ushering in a new chapter for Lakewood Ranch’s success.
In particular, three significant projects have come to fruition, including the addition of an innovative five-story, patient tower at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, the grand opening of the 110,000-square-foot Mote Science Education Aquarium (Mote SEA) on
the north end of Nathan Benderson Park, and the Sarasota Paradise’s move to Premier Sports Campus to kick off the 2025 season, along with recent stadium enhancements on the heels of its advancement into the United Soccer League’s professional division – USL League One. Together, they form a vignette of a growing region, expanding with purpose.
For Megan Batty, these developments are a symbol of an everincreasing demand for a wide array of high-quality offerings in healthcare, entertainment, recreation and education across Lakewood Ranch.
“Lakewood Ranch is more than a suburb – it’s a planned, vibrant community with dynamic growth and expectations of high-quality local amenities,” said Batty. “Lakewood Ranch Medical Center’s evolution reflects that philosophy, delivering cutting-edge care so residents don’t have to travel far.”
Healthcare Reaches New Heights
At Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, the year ahead marks the most significant expansion since the hospital first opened its doors 21 years ago. The vision for a state-of-the-art patient tower emerged in 2023, driven by an ongoing demand for beds – and the campus continues to experience an increase in emergency room visits, fueled by steady population growth.
The project’s plans remained consistent throughout development – a 170,000-square-foot facility with 30 beds devoted to intensive care patients and 30 for progressive care patients in the first phase, slated for completion by December. And the $120-million tower is designed to expand alongside the needs of the community, with the ability to add another 60 beds, ultimately doubling Lakewood Ranch Medical Center’s capacity to 240 beds.
From its groundbreaking in 2024 to the placement of the final structural beam during a ceremony last summer, the new tower signifies a recognition of Lakewood Ranch’s evolving role – a healthcare destination.
“The added capacity sets the stage for growth to meet the community’s needs for healthcare,” said Batty. “The tower is in response to demand for more comprehensive and complex services, bringing more advanced care directly to the Lakewood Ranch community.”
Mote SEA Makes Waves in Marine Education
Three miles away, one of the region’s most anticipated attractions – Mote SEA – officially opened in October. It brought to life Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium’s plan, beginning in 2017, for the rebirth of its aquarium, previously housed on the institution’s City Island campus in Sarasota.
It was seven years ago that Mote Marine President & CEO Michael P. Crosby announced the north end of Nathan Benderson Park as the new home of Mote SEA – and a nexus of wonder for Sarasota and Manatee counties. From its 2020 groundbreaking through vertical construction in 2021 and 2022 – requiring 346 cast-in pilings, 145 tons of steel rebar and 312 truckloads of concrete – to the 400,000-gallon Gulf of Mexico habitat taking shape as cranes lifted massive acrylic windows into place, it’s been a remarkable journey to this point: a three-story landmark visible from I-75 that is not only an aquarium, but an educational hub with STEM labs and programs supporting 70,000 K–12 students on the Suncoast.
“The big picture hasn’t changed for Mote SEA, we’ve always envisioned it as a world-class home for marine science, conservation, and education,” said Kevin Cooper, Vice President of Communications and Strategic Initiatives. With that being said, many of the details have certainly evolved to improve our initial concept. … For example, our labs were redesigned to match the level of our research, and we collaborated with local educators to make sure what we’re offering truly supports student learning. Those changes have made the final design even stronger than we first imagined.”
For City Island, Mote Marine has stayed on course with its plans to create a Silicon Valley for marine science and conservation.
“That campus is being transformed into the International Marine Science & Technology Innovation Park,” said Cooper. “It will give researchers from around the world the tools and space they need to conduct groundbreaking studies, while Mote SEA will serve as the place where the public connects with those discoveries. Together, the two campuses will allow us to expand both our research and our reach.”
Soccer Levels Up in Lakewood Ranch
While science and healthcare surge forward, so do professional sports. Since the inaugural season in 2023 within USL League Two – a premier semi-pro division – the team has experienced growth year after year, in particular with their move to Premier Sports Campus a year ago and rise to USL League One to start the 2026 season. Local standout Felipe Rojas attributes the team’s success to not only its involvement in the region’s chambers of commerce, but partnerships with local businesses, nonprofits and involvement in youth sports.
Sarasota Paradise’s move from Sarasota High School to Premier Sports Campus – and the renovations that have followed – were natural. With improvements underway for the 2026 season, including premium seating, container suites, and a new LED videoboard, the Paradise aim to deliver a soccer experience worthy of the region’s rising profile.
