Nelda Briones - LFN Something new and exciting has opened its doors in Los Fresnos. It’s a new wildlife park called Fragile Planet Wildlife Park. The Park is a 32.5acre park that houses animals from across the globe. In the opening phase of the park, they will be offering educational guided tours and upclose encounters with the animals. They offer three tours at different prices and experience something different with each one. According to their website, one of their tours is the Wildlife Adventure. It offers an educational
and interactive experience that will put you nose close with owls, tortoises, and more. You walk away with a greater understanding of the animal’s natural world and you even get the opportunity to ask the trainers and educators questions about the animals in their care. You will also visit the camels where you’ll learn about Bactrian Camels and get to interact with them. Another tour is the Wildlife Alive tour where you’ll step into the shoes of their amazing animal trainers as you not only learn about the animal’s day, but experience first-

Falcons Set to Kickoff Against Edcouch-Elsa By KEVIN NARRO Los Fresnos News LOS FRESNOS-The Falcons will kick off their 2021 season at home against Edcouch-Elsa at 7:30 p.m. The Falcons have three starters back on offense and two on defense. The challenge this past offseason was adapting to the new offensive scheme. The last few years Los Fresnos has ran the FlexBone and will now run the spread under first-year head coach David Cantu. “The season opener is always exciting,” Cantu said. “We anticipate an electric atmosphere at Leo Aguliar Memorial Stadium.
Getting ready for the opener has been our main focus since we began.” QB Matthew Padilla will look to lead the Falcons offense under the new spread attack, athlete Hector Munoz will also play a key role and look for running back Miles McWhirter to lead the back field. On the defensive side of the ball, Gregory Jones looks to cap off a strong career in a Falcons uniform. Last year Jones was the QB of the defense with 27 tackles and two sacks. Along with Jones will be Free Safety Ethan Gonzalez and in the trenches will be Vince Rocio. Their week 1 opponent is
unique, the Yellow Jackets run the Slot-T offense under head coach Christian Navarro. The Jackets were a playoff team a year ago. “E-E is a physical team on both sides of the ball,” Cantu said. “Their tradition is strong and they always play with great pride. We will have our hands full trying to limit what they can do offensively under center and in the shot gun. On defense they are very disciplined and run a fast 4-3 scheme. The test will be a great challenge.” The last time these two met up was during the 2019 season with the Jackets beating the Falcons 41-28.

The Lady Falcons will take on Laredo Martin, Laredo United and the Highlands in pool play. The following week, Los Fresnos has a date with McAllen Memorial and McAllen High.

The Town of Indian Lake certifies to the Texas Department of Agriculture that James Chambers in his capacity as Mayor consents to accept the jurisdiction of the Federal Courts if an action is brought to enforce responsibilities in relation to the environmental review process and that these responsibilities have been satisfied. The Texas Department of Agriculture’s approval of the certification satisfies its responsibilities under NEPA and related laws and authorities and allows the Town of Indian Lake to use Program funds. OBJECTIONS TO RELEASE OF FUNDS

The Town of Indian Lake will accept objections to its release of fund and the Town of Indian Lake’s certification for a period of fifteen days following the anticipated submission date or its actual receipt of the request (whichever is later) only if they are on one of the following bases: (a) the certification was not executed by the Certifying Officer of the Town of Indian Lake (b) the Town of Indian Lake has omitted a step or failed to make a decision or finding required by HUD regulations at 24 CFR part 58; (c) the grant recipient or other participants in the development process have committed funds, incurred costs or undertaken activities not authorized by 24 CFR Part 58 before approval of a release of funds by the Town of Indian Lake; or (d) another Federal agency acting pursuant to 40 CFR Part 1504 has submitted a written finding that the project is unsatisfactory from the standpoint of environmental quality. Objections must be prepared and submitted in accordance with the required procedures (24 CFR Part 58, Sec. 58.76) and shall be addressed to Pamela Wozniak-Environmental Regulatory Officer, Texas Community Development Block Grant Program, Texas Department of Agriculture-Office of Rural Affairs at P.O. Box 12847, Austin, Texas 78711. Potential objectors should contact Texas Department of Agriculture-Office of Rural Affairs to verify the actual last day of the objection period.

Addition to the Los Fresnos Nature Park Garden is Underway for Migration Season

City Park Department and volunteers from the Cameron County AgLife Extension Program, along with the Los Fresnos CDC, teamed up to plant a variety of native plants in preparation for the migratory season of Monarch Butterflies and winter birds. Master Gardener Volunteer Priscilla Rosas, assisted by Master Gardening Intern Judy Lubben, also provided hands-on technical training to the city crew on how to prepare the garden site, as well as a maintenance
and watering program. Materials as cardboard were donated by Walmart Los Fresnos and mulch by the City of McAllen Recycling Program. Cameron County Commissioners Court Honors Two 100-year-old Twins

On August 24, 2021 the Cameron County Commissioners Court presented two special proclamations to the family of 100-year-old twins from Cameron County, Rosa and Sara Galvan. Rosa and Sara were born in Brownsville on January 22, 1921. They were two of fourteen siblings. Their mother unfortunately passed away when Rosa and Sara were only two years old and the large family was then divided up to be raised by their father and other relatives. Rosa was raised in the rural area known as Las Yescas East of Rio Hondo by Jaunita Galvan Soto. There she grew up until she met her husband Timoteo Salazar and married in 1936. Rosa raised thirteen children with her husband until his passing in 1959. In 1965 Rosa and seven of
her children moved to the city limits of Rio Hondo. Rosa continued to work hard to support her family, she worked at odd jobs, did sewing and ironing, and even picked cotton during the summers. Sara was raised in Brownsville by Eulalia Galvan and later in life worked at a textile company during the 1940’s and then worked for the Levi’s Strauss Company during the 50’s; all the while also working at a local grocery store during those decades. Though the twin sisters endured the hardship of being separated at an early age and lived through very challenging times in history, such as the Great Depression and devastating hurricanes such as Beulah in 1967, they lived and enjoyed life and kept in constant contact with each
other. Both sisters enjoyed meeting people along the way and taking part in community activities especially those involving faith and family. Rosa and Sara were recognized by the Commissioners’ Court for their joyful years of life. The Court approved and signed two special proclamations on August 10, 2021 honoring Rosa and Sara. According to several online sources, Rosa and Sara are ranked number 8 in the world of the oldest known living twins. Rosa and Sara were 100 years, 6 months, and 19 days of age as of date of the proclamations. Sadly Rosa Galvan passed away only days after the signing of the proclamations and before the proclamations could be presented to family members.

Symptoms of dry mouth include a dry feeling in your mouth and throat, trouble swallowing, a burning sensation on your tongue, reduced ability to taste things, a metallic taste in your mouth, mouth sores, or frequent bad breath. Saliva substitutes or specially formulated mouthwashes are among the recommendations that he or she might make to bring you relief.
