This 2-day event is a one-of-a-kind cultural program attracting over 2,000 people for a celebration of the best in live Texas Mexican Conjunto music. This year the festival will include 13 Conjuntos
from the Rio Grande Valley, Laredo, Corpus Christi, and San Antonio, Texas. The 13-band line-up is filled with the most highly skilled musicians who continue to maintain the Conjunto music tradition alive. The line-up includes beginning musicians to the older musicians who are ready to bring Conjunto lovers to the dance floor for a great time.
The Conjunto tradition rests on these Conjuntos. The 28th Narciso Martinez Conjunto Festival is the longest running Conjunto festival in the Rio Grande Valley, and 1 of 2 festivals within the Conjunto musical genre in the nation. The Narciso Martinez Conjunto Festival is the largest cultural production of the Narciso Martinez Cultural Arts Center, which was
founded on October 29, 1991, on Narciso Martinez’ 80th birthday. Come and enjoy two days of live Conjunto music. There will be dancing, food, beverages, and authentic South Texas driven hospitality. Bring your own chairs. NO OUTSIDE BEVERAGES OR FOOD WILL BE ALLOWED.

talk of creating an underground tunnel for SpaceX employees living on the Island or in Laguna Madre area, allowing easier commute to and from work. This tunnel would also allow the
public access to parts of the Boca Chica beach that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to access. This idea was suggested by The Boring Company, and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, though this proposal may not gain much traction.
“(Paying for it) is not something that the county would be interested in,” Sepulveda told The Herald. “That would be prohibitive for us. We really didn’t get into those details, but once we do we wouldn’t be able to participate with any type of funding.” Furthermore, they said, “Keep in mind that the ship channel goes by there, so that depth would have to be pretty far down.” This wouldn’t be The Boring Company’s first underground tunnel. Currently their only underground tunnel is in Las Vegas, stretching to be 2 miles long
and costing roughly $50 million to build. Though in comparison, the proposal of this tunnel would only be a third of a mile, Sepulveda told The Herald, “I think we’re willing to work with SpaceX just to look at what options, solutions, are out there. I’m not sure what amount, if any, we can bring to the table financially.” And now more recently a company called Paragon VTOL has placed its headquarter in Brownsville. the first round of district play with a win over Harlingen South (24-26,256,25-21,25-15) on Tuesday night in Los Fresnos. Olivia Parra was named Rio Sports Live’s player of
the game in the win. The Lady Falcons will get a bye on Saturday before they tussle with San Benito next Tuesday. The Lady Falcons will look to complete the season sweep against the Lady Greyhounds. After the first round, Los Fresnos sits in a good spot with a 6-1 record, good enough for second place in a highly competitive district. Their only blemish was a loss in straight sets against Harlingen, who remains the only unbeaten in 32-6A with a perfect 7-0 record. The Lady Falcons will have key matches October 12 at home versus Rivera and October 19 also at home against Harlingen.

SAN BENITO-Los Fresnos entered the second quarter tied with San Benito, but gave up a 17 point second quarter and could not overcome the deficit. The Greyhounds wound up with a 38-7 win over the Falcons in their 32-6A opener. San Benito’s defense pitched a shutout in the second, third and fourth quarter while their offense scored a touchdown in the final two quarters. The Falcons are now 1-2 and 0-1 in 32-6A. Los Fresnos looks to

The Third Annual Los Fresnos Cowboy Cookoff was held on September 25th, from 9am to pm. Bringing some of the best chefs in Los Fresnos and the surrounding area. Having a total of twentyone different teams including the State Farm Team, Smoking & Toasting BBQ Team, Beerbelly’s BBQ, and Code
3 Grillers all from Los Fresnos and many more from the Valley. The overall results for Los Fresnos Cowboy cookoff ranks Los Buzzards first place with a perfect score in Ribs, RJ’s BBQ in second, Rio Valley Meats in third, Beerbelly’s BBQ in fourth, Gonzales Family Barbecue in Fifth place. Besides the Cook-off, families were able to enjoy live music by
bands like The Jammers, the Fabulous Cruiser’s, and the 956 performed Saturday for a sum of around 2,000 people. A member of the Los Fresnos Rodeo Committee, Larry Cantu said, “The feedback from those that attended loved the bands, the marketplace, car show and the People’s Choice sampling from the BBQ teams.” Lastly, Mr. Cantu said on behalf of the Los Fresnos Rodeo Committee, “We would like to thank all of our sponsors who supported this event. Without their support, it would have not been as successful. The Cookoff is put on by the Los Fresnos Rodeo Committee and I would like to thank all those committee members, volunteer judges, and others that put in their time and hard work in making this Cookoff a big success. Los Fresnos, Texas It’s Conjunto Time in Los Fresnos. Texas and the Rio Grande Valley! The Narciso Martinez Cultural Arts Center will be presenting the 28th Annual Conjunto Festival on October 15 & 16, 2021 at the Los Fresnos Memorial Park on 900 N. Arroyo Blvd. There will be 13 of the best Conjunto bands performing from the state of Texas for this unique, one-of-a-kind musical festival. Conjunto music is characterized by the 3-row button
accordion and the bajo sexto. The music includes polkas, rancheras, boleros, huapangos, schottisches and redovas and it is a music to be danced to. The festival is the longest running festival that focuses on Conjunto music In the Rio Grande Valley. This year we are extending 250 complimentary tickets for children 10 and under. The Narciso Martinez Cultural Arts Center partnered with the NINOS, Inc., Head Start Center, the Boys Club, and Housing Authority
to distribute the tickets. While this music is native to the border and the Rio Grande Valley, we felt it was important to target the youth to come to the festival as well as with their families. Conjunto music is over 100 years old, and it is important to teach our youth and the community at large of the importance of this musical tradition. We note that the Los Fresnos High School Conjunto Halcon under the direction of Conjunto teacher Juan Longoria is one of the best Conjuntos in the state of Texas.
