Founded in 1541 and set in the heart of the historic city of Gloucester, The King’s School offers a distinctive collection of venues that combine heritage architecture with modern facilities
Located adjacent to Gloucester Cathedral, our venues sit within an exceptional setting that blends centuries of history with contemporary educational, performance and sporting spaces
In addition to the buildings outlined in this brochure, further spaces may be available locally through the Cathedral by separate arrangement.
Our portfolio includes historic halls, flexible classrooms, performance venues and a range of well-equipped sports facilities, enabling us to accommodate conferences, performances, filming, examinations, training days, sporting events and multi-site hires
Alongside our indoor venues, we offer access to a dedicated sports hall, cricket nets, an allweather pitch and a sports pavilion, providing excellent facilities for training sessions, tournaments, activity-based events and sports-focused hires.
The school benefits from on-site car parking for up to 120 cars, catering options available upon request, and Gloucester train and bus stations within a five-minute walk

BLACK BOX THEATRE
Our Black Box Theatre is a highly adaptable performance and events space, suitable for theatre productions, live performances, screenings, lectures, awards evenings, rehearsals and filming
Set within the School Hall, the space offers a total floor area of 397m² and can be configured to suit a wide range of event formats. Tiered seating accommodates up to 200 people, with a further 234 loose, stackable chairs available to allow for flexible layouts depending on your requirements.
The venue is equipped with professional lighting and sound infrastructure, supporting both creative and presentation-led events. Lighting across the space is designed to be versatile and responsive, while the sound system provides clear, high-quality audio suitable for speech, music and live performance.
Fixed rigging is installed throughout the venue, with accessible rigging points and power provision to support production needs For events requiring additional support, technical assistance can be arranged at an extra cost. External production and technical teams are also welcome, subject to prior agreement.
Hire pricing for the Black Box Theatre is available from £750, with final costs dependent on the duration of hire, event type and technical requirements.
PALACE & LIBRARY
Palace is our senior school building, located within the historic Old Bishop’s Palace, a striking 19th-century building set within its own gardens.
The building offers a highly flexible hire option, comprising 26 classrooms alongside a beautiful historic library. With a variety of rooms available, Palace is well suited to conferences, examinations, workshops, training days, filming and multi-room events requiring both character and practicality
Throughout the building and grounds, Palace benefits from attractive views across the city, including views towards Gloucester Cathedral, adding to the sense of place and heritage.
The library is a particularly distinctive space, accommodating up to 80 people, and is well suited to lectures, meetings, receptions and filming. It may be hired either as part of the wider Palace building or as a standalone venue.
Hire of Palace includes access to the building and surrounding gardens, offering a self-contained venue with both indoor and outdoor flexibility.
Pricing for Palace hire is available from £1,000 per day for exclusive use of the building and gardens. The library may also be hired separately, with pricing available on request
DULVERTON
Dulverton is the contemporary Sixth Form centre at The King’s School, Gloucester, offering a modern, selfcontained venue that blends thoughtfully updated design with retained historic features.
Perfectly suited to small conferences, seminars, training days and leadership events, the building is arranged to support both formal presentations and collaborative working.
The ground floor features a spacious common room with flexible furniture arrangements, alongside a separate café area that provides an ideal setting for networking, refreshment breaks and informal meetings
On the first floor, Dulverton offers a dedicated lecture theatre, five classrooms and two breakout rooms. Designed to reflect contemporary workspaces, the classrooms are equipped with interactive screens and modular desks, allowing seating layouts to be easily adapted for presentations, workshops or group sessions.
The combination of lecture space, multiple breakout rooms and social areas makes Dulverton particularly effective for events requiring structured delivery with smaller group discussion opportunities all within a cohesive and professional environment.

IVOR GURNEY HALL
The Ivor Gurney Hall is one of King’s most characterful spaces and the school’s original 19thcentury schoolroom Extensively restored in 2015, the hall now showcases its impressive archbraced roof in a striking multi-coloured scheme inspired by the Gothic Revival movement. The result is a unique and visually rich venue, combining historic architecture with a flexible, contemporary events space. With a capacity of up to 100 people, Ivor Gurney Hall is particularly well suited to lectures, recitals, small performances, presentations, rehearsals, receptions and filming

COLLEGE GREEN
College Green offers a distinctive and inspiring venue, set within a historic building overlooking Gloucester Cathedral. Located at 7 College Green, this characterful space combines historic architecture with bright, modern facilities
The building provides six spacious, wellequipped classrooms and operates as a standalone venue, making it ideal for events that require separation from a main site. This makes College Green particularly well suited to conferences, workshops, training days and examinations where groups need to be split across multiple spaces or accommodated independently.
7 College Green has a rich and layered history, with parts of the building believed to date back to the 14th century, when it formed part of the monastic buildings of St Peter’s Abbey. Over the centuries it has served a variety of educational and residential purposes, contributing to the unique character and sense of place that the building retains today.
With stunning views across College Green towards Gloucester Cathedral, the venue offers a calm and atmospheric setting that blends heritage with practicality.
Hire pricing for College Green is available from £850 per day, depending on duration and requirements.

In addition to our principal venues, we also offer a range of smaller and more flexible spaces, providing cost-effective options while still benefiting from the unique setting and facilities of King’s.
Set within the school’s historic buildings and grounds, these spaces are ideal for meetings, workshops, rehearsals, breakout sessions, interviews and smaller events. They work particularly well as standalone hires or as complementary spaces alongside one of our larger venues, allowing events to be tailored to suit a wide range of formats and budgets
While more modest in scale, these rooms maintain the same high standards of presentation and accessibility found across our venues, offering a professional and welcoming environment within a distinctive historic setting.
