Reflections of HIS Life

Glenn Courtney Barnes was born December 7, 1964 in Bowden, GA to the late Millard Barnes and Nellie Mae Ackey but he was raised by his Dad Curtis Ackey.

Glenn joined Hillside Missionary Baptist Church at a young age and after returning to the Carrollton area he became a member of The Word of Faith Family Worship Cathedral.

Glenn attended the Carrollton City schools and graduated with the class of 1982. Soon after graduation, Glenn joined the United States Navy, where he served his country for twenty years.

During his time in the military Glenn married the Love of his life Lynette (Honey). Glenn and Lynette had two children, Glenecia and Knigyl.

After retiring from the Navy, Glenn brought his family back to the Carrollton area where he worked many jobs. He enjoyed working but his passion was to help people, so he attended the University of West Ga where he received his Master of Education Degree in Speech Language Pathology so that he could continue this passion. He started his own practice and became The Founder of Crucible Communications Therapy LLC while also working as a Speech pathologist for Piedmont Health Care Carterville.

Glenn had many accomplishments while serving in the Navy: Joint Service Achievement (3), Navy Achievement Medal (2), Navy Good Conduct Medal (6), National Defense Service Medal (2), Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, Naval Parachutist, Expert Pistol Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (3), Humanitarian Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal (4), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait), Meritorious Unit Commendation (2), Battle “E” Ribbon, Joint Meritorious Unit Award (3), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Overseas Service Medal.

Out of all his accomplishments the most important to him was ministering the Word of God, spending time with his family, watching football, watching Vikings shows, sitting on his deck enjoying a good cigar and most of all freeing his mind (as he would say) by riding his Harley.

Glenn went from Labor to reward January 4, 2026 at Grady Memorial Hospital.

He’s preceded in death by his parents Curtis Ackey, Nellie Ackey and Millard Barnes. His grand parents Ethel Mae Freeman and Johnny Freeman.

Glenn leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 37 years (Honey) Lynette Barnes; 5 children, Tiffany Davis-Brantley (Stephon), Sergio Barnes (Areil), Courtney Ellison (Tyrone), Glenecia Barnes and Knigyl Barnes; 6 grandchildren, Gabriella, Kamille, Leo, Khandi, Tyrone Jr and Peyton; 4 sisters, Roxanne Barnes (Monroe), Tonya Ackey Weems (Keith), Bernice McPherson and Gwendolyn Scrutchins (Felton); mother in love, Betty Jean Wilcox; father in love, Leonard Wilcox Sr.; 3 sisters in love, Beverly Muhammad, Tasha Wilcox and Apriyl Wilcox; 2 brothers in love, Leonard Wilcox Jr (Tye) and Andre Wilcox.

Glenn also leaves to cherish his memory, 3 special aunts, Emma Freeman, Mary Freeman and Bernice (QT) Ellis ; along with a host of other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Loving Tribute

Forever In My Heart

The moment that you left me, My heart was split in two; One side was filled with memories; The other side died with you.

I often lay awake at night

When the world is fast asleep; And take a walk down memory lane

With tears upon my cheek. Remembering you is easy, I do it everyday;

But missing you is a heartache That never goes away.

I hold you tightly within my heart

And there you will remain;

You see life has gone without you, But will never be the same.

-Author Unknown

To my bubba as I sit back and think about all the things we’ve been through in life together. I think about our mama and the talks that she shared with us. I think about when she told us that we were her gifts from the Lord. She stated that when we were born she gave us back to the Lord and for this we would always be in God’s grace. I remember her saying that when I was born that she laid me in your arms and said that I was yours…. And boy did you take that to heart you have been my protector all of my life. I never had to worry about things because I knew you would always have my back. Not only did you protect me you protected all the women in your life. Even the people in the united state of America for 20 years you gave your life for people you never knew. You even went as far as to go back to school to serve others as a speech pathologist. Everything that you touched you put countless times and hours striving to give your all. Never stopping short of giving God the glory and sharing God’s word with all. Yes, it has been said you talked a lot but it was always knowledgeable and about the goodness of God. I now know why you talked. You had a lot to share but only a short time here.

I watched you give it with loyalty and pride. I never had to wonder if you loved me because you never made it a secret. All my life it’s been Roxanne and Glenn (beauty and the brain) of course I was beauty now beauty has the task of living here on earth without her brain I will carry you in my heart until my last breath. I watched you fight with everything in you to stay here. But even as the Superman that you were your arms were too short to fight with God. Even in your fight for life you were thinking of me. Our bond and love were so strong until your last breath I heard you whisper. I love you, don’t worry about me I will always be with you. And that I will always be my sisters keeper. My race has finished and I have to go. I felt your presence leave my body and at that moment I knew you were gone as I am writing this, I have tears in my eyes but Joy in my heart. The tears are for me knowing that I’ll never see your sweet face again. The Joy is for you knowing that you are now resting in the arms of the Lord. no more worries of this old, wicked world no more pain nothing but joy joy unspeakable joy. You have won your race and received your crown my sweet bubba. Well deserved thy good and faithful servant. Until we meet again, I love you bubba and I will forever be my bubbas keeper. My sweet sweet bubba please continue to keep me in your prayers.
