Tzipi to host Israel 75 celebrations BY DAVID SAFFER

Ambassador Tzipi Hotovely hosts the embassy’s celebrations for Israel’s 75th Independence Day next week. Parliamentarians, diplomats and community leaders will gather for the gala event in central London. The embassy has also produced a special film about Israel that will be on display at a location for commuters and tourists to view. Since 1948, Israel has enjoyed many successes and overcome numerous challenges. Ambassador Hotovely recalls summer holidays as a child on a northern kibbutz in the mid-1980s. “It was a time when there was a flavour of socialism in the country,” she said. “Since the mid-80s there was a big shift towards a

free market economy. The world now looks at Israel as a role model in many fields including renewable energy. Israel has also become a leader in water solutions.” The burgeoning Abraham Accords with Arab nations has seen a global reaction. “Growing up, I could not imagine travelling to an Arab country,” Ambassador Hotovely explained. “I was a baby when the peace agreement with Egypt was signed and travelling in the Israeli desert when we celebrated 40 years peace. Today, half a million Israelis have visited Dubai and 100,000 have gone to Morocco. The Continued on page 2
