The stars of the Amazon series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” were in Williston Park last Wednesday as the series filmed a scene at the Hawthorne service station located on Willis Avenue.

Gas was 23 cents for a gallon in Williston Park last Wednesday. At least that’s the price that was listed for a few hours at the Shell gas station set that took over the Hawthorne service station lot for the filming of the Amazon series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” Crews transformed the service station into a set fit for the 1950s, the decade in which the show takes places. The period comedy-drama premiered in April 2017 and is set to return later this year. It was creat-

ed by “Gilmore Girls” creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and stars Rachel Brosnahan and Alex Borstein. Brosnahan and Borstein were both on set in the village last week. Amazon representatives said the show is filming on a closed set and would not comment on the scene or the chosen location. The show is about a housewife, Miriam “Midge” Maisel, played by Bosnahan, who discovers a talent for stand-up comedy. Borstein plays Maisel’s manager, Susie Myerson. Continued on Page 58

Members are calling and emailing the Inn and the group plans to hold several protests outside the catering hall leading up to the event if it is not canceled, Bacher said. A representative from the Inn at New Hyde park said the catering hall de-

clined to comment. “When I got wind of the event I called the events mangers and kind of pleaded with them to reconsider their contract with the NRA, and they declined,” Bacher said in an interview Monday. “They actually said ‘the NRA sounds like a lovely organization.’ That was a direct quote.” The fundraising event, hosted by Nassau County Friends of NRA,

is set to be held on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 5:30 p.m., according to the Friends of NRA website. Tickets range in price from $65 for a single ticket to $2,000, for the Charlton Heston Table. The event features a raffle and auction with prizes including a .410 gauge Henry Lever Action Shotgun with a Second Amendment engraving and a Colt Cobra Continued on Page 59
