Roslyn schools to be ready for class: officials

High school, Harbor Hill work set for completion before Sept. 5 start BY A M E L I A C A M U R AT I Despite the dirt piled across the Roslyn High School parking lot, construction will be ďŹ nished and the lot will be ready for the ďŹ rst day of school, oďŹƒcials said. The district’s director of community relations, Barry Edelson, said all projects from the $40 million capital plan expected to be ďŹ nished before the start of the 201718 school year will be completed, including the high school parking lot. “It will be ďŹ nished this week,â€? Edelson said. “We start school next Tuesday, and that’s our deadline for everything, so it will be done.â€? During a Roslyn Board of Education meeting in June, KG&D civil engineer Courtney Riley said the majority of the parking lot work could be done without a permit, but the district was waiting for a Nassau County permit for curb work

and painting along the Round Hill Road right-of-way. Those permits have still not been received, but Edelson said “it will have no impact on our ability to open school on time.â€? Edelson also said a new gymnasium at the high school will be ďŹ nished this fall, likely within a few weeks. At Harbor Hill Elementary School, Edelson said, work on the parking lot will be ďŹ nished on time as well as a new multi-purpose room and work inside existing classrooms and hallways. “Harbor Hill Elementary School is in very good shape,â€? Edelson said. “The new multi-purpose room is about ready to go, their parking areas will be ďŹ nished, and all the classroom spaces will be done.â€?
