Heights man charged with assaulting police Neil Pines arrested following July incident at church BY B R A N D ON DUFFY A Roslyn Heights man was arrested on Aug. 19 for assault, according to Nassau County police. Officials said detectives arrived at Neil Pines’ house in connection with an incident at the Roslyn Korean Methodist Church on July 8. After Pines was given multiple commands to place his hands behind his back, a physical confrontation began
in which he resisted arrest and refused to comply with lawful orders, according to a Nassau County Police Department news release. Pines, 38, kicked his legs and threw his arms into detectives, causing them to fall down a staircase and into a cement walkway, officials said. Two detectives were injured and transported for treatment at a local hospital, officials said. Both suffered injuries to the back and one was diagnosed with a concussion.
Pines is charged with two counts of assault in the second degree, menacing in the second degree, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, resisting arrest and disruption of religious services. He was arraigned on Aug. 20 at First District Court in Hempstead. Efforts to reach the police and the church for more information were unavailing, and information on the arraignment was not available.
