Sharp rise in school election turnout More votes in Roslyn this year than past 3 combined BY R OB E RT PELAEZ A flood of ballots poured in for school elections on the North Shore this year – at least compared with recent years. With residents casting absentee ballots for school board seats and on proposed budgets from the comfort of home due to the coronavirus pandemic, the vote total was higher than the past two years combined. The elections for school boards on June 16 saw incumbents retain their seats and 2020-21 school district

budgets pass despite complications from the pandemic. In virtually every school district on the North Shore, budget and school board votes far surpassed those in previous years. The school districts included in these figures are Great Neck, Roslyn, Manhasset, Port Washington, Sewanhaka, New Hyde Park-Garden City Park, Floral Park-Bellerose, East Williston, Herricks, Mineola and North Shore. The figures were provided by the school districts.

Jodi Rosenthal to be succeeded by David Levy BY R O S E W E L D ON With the end of her term coming up, the president of Sid Jacobson JCC’s board of directors has written a farewell to the JCC community. Jodi Rosenthal announced in an email sent last Thursday that her presidency would end on Tuesday and that she would

be succeeded by the center’s executive vice president, David Levy. “As we look to re-open our doors shortly and begin to embrace our ‘new normal,'” Rosenthal wrote. “I cannot help but reflect upon the last 3 years since I was elected President of the Board. When I first took this office, I was filled with vi-

sion and excitement for what the next several years of the JCC could look like, where we could grow, new populations we could touch and the overall impact we could have on our community as a whole.” The outgoing president also said that her “vision” for her term had been complete, Continued on Page 37
