Order to demolish Baxter House

Due to hazardous, safety issues BY ST E P H E N ROMANO The Village of Baxter Estates’ building inspector last Wednesday told the owner of the historic Baxter House she must demolish the remaining structure due to “hazardous health and safety issues,â€? village oďŹƒcials said. The home, which has been the subject of a controversy in which village oďŹƒcials and residents have condemned the owner, Sabrina Wu, for not preserving it, was heavily damaged in a ďŹ re on Feb. 5. “The trustees and I are deeply saddened by what has transpired concerning the Baxter Home,â€? Mayor Nora Haagenson said. “The village has followed, and will continue to follow, the lengthy legal process to ensure the rights of the residents of the Village of Baxter Estates and the private property owner are upheld and respected. Kerpen, Gilliar elected to school board Residents pass $151 million budget with a vote of 2,453 to 624 Gilliar received 1,998 votes and Kerpen received 1,750 votes to replace outgoing school board Residents on Tuesday elected members Alan Baer and ChrisRachel Gilliar and Dave Kerpen tina Nadolne. Kerpen said he is excited to increase communication and transparency between the board and the school community. He taught math in New York City for three years and is the CEO and co-founder of Likeable Media, a social media marketing company. “I know the board can and will do a better job to get the word out,� he said. He said he is a team player and the background that he will

bring to the board will help in a unique way. “I will be relying on the rest of the board, too,â€? he said. “I am a team player and the board functions as a team.â€? Kerpen has lived in Port Washington for seven years and briey ran for Queens borough president in 2009.
