Port chamber cancels Craft Promenade

GOV’S IN PORT

1st annual event nixed due to lack of vendors, concerns about COVID BY R OB E RT PE L A E Z The Port Washington Chamber of Commerce has announced the cancellation of the Port Craft Promenade due to a lack of vendors and concerns about the coronavirus. Bobbie Polay, executive director of the chamber, announced earlier this month that the chamber would hold an event in the spirit of the Port Promenade, Harborfest and Octoberfest this September. With a lack of vendors and increasing infections from the Delta variant of the coronavirus, Polay said, the chamber was forced to cancel the event. “The Port Washington Chamber of Commerce is very disappointed to have to cancel our plans for Port Craft Promenade,” Polay said in a statement. “In the spring and early summer, these vendors were very excited to have a new

craft fair. However, they are now telling us that they fear the Covid-19 Delta variant and only 15 craft vendors signed on.” In an interview, Polay said the event was scheduled for Sept. 12 and would take place on Main Street from Port Washington Boulevard to Mackey Avenue. The event would have highlighted vendors from around the area. Vendors were scheduled to be lined up and down the street to showcase everything from handcrafted toys to clothes and everything in between. Polay said she and the chamber hope that the promenade, along with other events canceled due to the coronavirus, will return next year. “We hope that next fall, the world will be better and we can have Port Craft Promenade in 2022,” Polay said.
