L.I. politicians slam Trump’s Russia remarks

Dems, GOP both criticize president, Rice calls for election security czar BY LU K E TOR R A N C E President Donald Trump said Monday he had no reason to believe that Russia meddled in the 2016 election, a statement that was met with swift condemnation by officials across the country. Politicians from Long Island were no exception. “The President has thrown America’s intelligence community under the bus and sided with the Russians while on foreign soil,” said Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-Glen Cove) in a statement. “I cannot understand why the President continues to have a blind spot with the Russians and Putin,” Suozzi continued. “Something is seriously wrong.” Trump made the remarks in Helsinki, shortly after a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
