2 run for 1 seat in Manhasset Post challenges prez Aitken BY R OB E RT PE L A E Z Manhasset Board of Education President Patricia Aitken is running for re-election against resident Ted Post in the school district’s May 16 election. Aitken was named president of the board in 2019, succeeding former trustee Regina Rule, who served in the role for six years. On several social media posts, Aitken touted the importance of investing in facilities, building on the district’s academic excellence and enhancing and strengthening the curriculum. “I am seeking re-election to the Manhasset School Board because I care about our children,” Aitken said in a Facebook post. “My sole agenda is to continue bringing positive change to our schools for the benefit of our students, teachers, and parents, while balancing the needs of multiple constituencies.” Post has over 25 years of experience in the banking world and has overseen financial, legal, operational and IT teams. He has also served two terms on the Manhasset Athletic Advisory Committee and has coached a variety of athletic teams. “I would be excited to join a talented board and also bring a fresh perspective,” Post said in a statement. “I’m committed to transContinued on Page 44

Community mourns Roslyn teens Outpouring of outrage, grief for two boys, 14, who died in crash BY R OB E RT PE L A E Z Nassau County mourned the deaths of two young Roslyn tennis players after an accused drunk driver cut short their lives last week and snuffed out the dreams their families, school, friends and community had for the talented 14-year-olds. The Roslyn School District, in
a statement, reflected on the passing of Drew Hassenbein and Ethan Falkowitz, both middle school students, and two injured high school friends. “The tragic passing of two of our Roslyn Middle School students is a tremendous loss for their families, friends, and our school community,” the statement said. “The district ex-
tends our deepest condolences and asks that everyone respect the families’ right to grieve privately during this very difficult time…We wish a speedy and complete recovery to our two Roslyn High School students in the hospital. Our hearts are broken.” The district also said it will have psychologists, guidance counselors and other social workers set up at
each school to provide support for students, staff or families. Hassenbein and Falkowitz were killed after being hit by an allegedly drunk driver behind the wheel of a Dodge Ram traveling on the wrong side of the road in Jericho, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
