DOCTOR OF DEATH D
r. David G. Marwell will speak at the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County about his new book, “Mengele: Unmasking the ‘Angel of Death,’” on Sunday, Feb. 2. In the book, Marwell traces the international search for SS officer Josef Mengele in 1985, which ended in a cemetery in Brazil, and the dogged forensic investigation, including the work of Nassau County’s chief medical examiner, which finally confirmed Mengele’s death in 1992. Marwell will speak about this riveting story of science without limits, escape without freedom and resolution without justice. Marwell, a former director of the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City, worked on the Mengele case at the Justice Department’s Office of Special Investigations in the 1980s. A historian who has served and led a number of government and nonprofit institutions, he lives in University Park, Maryland, with his wife. Marwell will present a talk based on his new book.Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase. “Mengele: Unmasking the ‘Angel of Death’” hits the shelves on Jan. 28. For more information on Marwell’s new book visit https://wwnorton. com/books/9780393609530. There will be a $10 suggested donation to attend. Light refreshments will be served. ‘Our Lady of Queens’ to debut in Huntington On Sunday, Jan. 19, at 4 p.m., a new play from screenwriter Joseph Beck, “Our Lady of Queens,” will debut at the Cinema Arts Centre in Huntington. Austin Pendletonstars in this love story about an elderly Irish Catholic couple celebrating a special birthday party. The play is an estimated 120 minutes long and includes an intermission. “Joseph Beck’s ‘Our Lady of Queens’ deals with a family in which the mother has been stricken by dementia. Beck meets this head-on and dramatizes it with immediacy, force, tenderness, total reality and fine, tough love,” Pendleton said. “I think it’s a play that will speak overwhelmingly to many, many people, and, like all really fine plays, not only startle them but, in that paradoxical way that fine plays have always done, bring them comfort and a feeling that they are not alone.” Pendleton is an actor, director and playwright. He has acted in about 250 movies and appeared several times in such TV shows as “Homicide,” “Oz” and “Law and Order.” He has acted on stage in New York on Broadway, appearing in plays like “Choir Boy”at Manhattan Theatre Club, “The Diary Of Anne Frank”with Natalie Portman

Trump contradicts Community forum Kristof’s optimism on cell towers, 5G Continued from Page 16 will continue to improve. When most of the world’s population, including China and India with over 1 billion people each, have been at the lowest rung, improvement is relatively easy to show. But the USA, with just 5 percent of the world’s population, it is harder for our setbacks in terms of increased poverty, inequality, mortality, to factor in. And in just the past three years, we see how progress in the world cannot just be derailed, but reversed, undermined, destroyed, and pos-

Long Island Motor Parkway presentation Poor Willy! He is so misunderstood! Historians have called the Long Island Motor Parkway the road to nowhere. Now, new information about Willy K. Vanderbilt provides new insights into where the road might have been headed. Roslyn Landmark Society is proud to combine our eorts with the Bryant Library. We invite the public to our lecture on William K. Vanderbilt II. Our Guest speaker is Steve Gittelman, one of the most informed speakers on the Vanderbilts. The presentation will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m. at the Bryant Library Steve Gittelman is Vanderbilt’s biographer and most recently has written a fourth book on the life of the photographer who traveled with him. Gittelman’s other books are about William K.’s cousin Alfred Gwynne Van-
derbilt, who died on the Lusitania, and J.P. Morgan’s most notable failure – the building of the S.S. Titanic. Gittelman’s book on Morgan has been made into a docudrama, now appearing on Reelz. For 30 years he has been a trustee of the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum, where he served as chairman for 15 years. Most recently, he chaired the successful re-accreditation eort of the museum. Gittelman is an award-winning speaker. He is a resident of Huntington, where he lives with his wife, Elaine. “Steve is not just a Historian, I would call him an investigative historian who reads between the lines and then connects the dots to bring forward a new vision of the motivations of Willie K. It promises to be a fascinating evening,â€? said Jay A. Corn, secretary of the Roslyn Landmark Society. Submitted by Roslyn Landmark Society
