Car hits M. Neck storefront 7 injured, none dead: officials BY R OB E RT PE L A E Z A car crashed into the storefront of a Middle Neck Road salon on Sunday afternoon, resulting in seven people being hospitalized, according to Great Neck Vigilant Fire Department Chief Justin Sachmechi. A pair of vehicles were reportedly involved in the accident, which occurred shortly after 1 p.m., he said. One of the vehicles, which was driven by an elderly woman, came in contact with the other vehicle, causing it to crash into the storefront of DeFranco Spagnolo salon on 156 Middle Neck Road in Great Neck Estates, he said. Efforts to reach a representative from the salon for comment were unavailing. The woman, who was not identified, had to be extracted from the vehicle, appeared to Continued on Page 50

stead hosted a Sept. 11 remembrance and recitation of names ceremony at Manhasset Valley The Town of North Hemp- Park on Saturday. State, county and town officials recalled the tragic events 20 years ago. The park is the new home to a monument commemorating and honoring North Hempstead residents
who died during the terror attacks. Officials presented the 19foot monument, a steel beam salvaged from the wreckage, with a plaque listing the names of the 56 North Hempstead residents who died directly in front of it. Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth said the beam is visible
from the LIRR overpass, the rail line so many of the victims took on their way to work that day. Furthermore, Bosworth said that the monument is pointed and angled directly at ground zero, 17 miles away. The monument is not completely finished.
