Health Metrics is focused on providing a best-in-breed platform for the aged care sector

Adopting a digital mindset With transformational changes afoot across the aged care sector, providers need to be ahead of the technological curve – and Health Metrics can help them get there.

hen the aged care royal commission’s final report landed last year, one of its many recommendations for the sector was that it “operate in a technology-enabled environment”. And fast. Aged care providers were encouraged to adopt a digital care system – one that incorporates electronic medication management and that integrates with the My Health Paul Brindle Record platform – by July 2022. Well, here we are. July has been and gone, and there are some providers who have yet to embrace such a system. But among those that have gone digital, many providers have chosen eCase. Developed by Health Metrics, eCase is a one-shop solution that meets all of the above recommendations of the royal commission. One such provider using eCase is Rosary Home – a standalone, not-for-profit 50-bed facility in north-west Melbourne. “We use the system to house all our residents’ records and we use it for generating reports,” operations manager Lauren Hehir tells Australian Ageing

onboarding process.” Hehir first encountered eCase while working at another aged care facility. And she was clearly impressed. “When I started two years ago at Rosary Home they were using a very old system and I brought eCase over to them,” she says. By centralising all data, eCase offers providers clinical, operational and financial capabilities that enable Lauren Hehir them to operate efficiently and seamlessly across the digital landscape. Hehir is particularly impressed with the system’s single client record functionality. “eCase offers a very bespoke and very up-to-date system,” she says. The single client record feature influenced Hehir to introduce eCase to Rosary Home. “I come from a quality background; I know the features it has for that as well,” she says. As well as single client records, you can also pull together lots of data involving multiple client records, explains Hehir. “It just has so many features – you’ve got lots of options with eCase.”

Hehir also admires the system’s usability and accessibility. “The young ones are tech savvy, so they pick it up quickly,” she says. There are big changes about to hit the aged care sector, including a new funding model – the Australian National Aged Care Classification – which will be up and running by the end of the year. Hehir tells AAA she’s more than assured that Health Metrics have future-proofed eCase so the system will be able to roll with the changes to come. “I have worked with eCase senior consultants for many years now,” she says. “To be honest with you, they are well abreast of the changes and know exactly where they’re going and what they’re going to do with the system. So I have 100 per cent confidence.” As a client, Hehir says she will have to do very little to adapt to the change. “Health Metrics does all the hard work behind the scenes to make [eCase] convert from the Aged Care Funding Instrument to AN-ACC.” In 2021, diversified alternative asset investment firm Tanarra Capital invested in the future of Health Metrics to support continued growth and development of the business. As Tanarra Capital chair Andrew King explains to AAA, the move was in line with the firm’s

strategy of investing in Australian technology businesses that have scope to substantially scale up. “What attracted us to Health Metrics was the enormous opportunity the platform provided for digital transformation in the aged care, disability and home care sector,” says King. “We believe that one of the ways that this sector could help itself and transform is through greater digital investment and a digital mindset in everything it does,” he adds. Tanarra Capital’s game plan for Health Metrics involves continually upgrading and improving its technology to provide a “best-in-breed” platform for the aged care sector, says King. “We plan to be the best. We plan to be market leaders and our technology and significant investment therein will lead the way,” he says. “I honestly can’t think of a better time to partner with Health Metrics. We want to enable growth through seamlessly connected systems and exceptional customer service.” Paul Brindle joined Health Metrics as its chief executive officer in January this year. He came to the role with more than 20 years’ technology experience managing and delivering complex enterprise-grade software solutions in highly regulated global industries. Brindle tells AAA that he “has the hairline to prove how hard it is to deliver complex technology solutions.” His goal as Health Metrics CEO is to transform the business into “a true best-in-class technology provider.” It’s important, then, explains Brindle, that Health Metrics software stays aligned with legislative and regulatory changes within the aged care industry, and supports its clients as they transition to digital solutions to meet the new requirements. For that to happen, adds Brindle, Health Metrics is investing heavily in product management, engineering, training, business analysts, financial and clinical care experts, and implementation consultants. “We can do this because of the financial support of Tanarra Capital,” says Brindle. “And because of our convictions that we can help achieve a sustainable business model for industry participants and ultimately deliver better care for society.” n Contact Health Metrics T: 1800 810 081 E: enquiries@healthmetrics.com.au W: healthmetrics.com.au
