ast week we reported on one small aspect of flood protection that had been handled less than robustly and efficiently by the council
staff responsible. This was the issue of a relatively economical and easy flood protection programme at the Taputapuatea Reserve in Whitianga that staff decided they didn’t need to do despite the costly effects of not doing it
on local residents. Unfortunately, this is not a solitary case. Nor is the lack of infrastructure that increases the level of damage and destruction limited to this geographical area. Continued on page 3
