There’s something special about a summer night under the stars—and tonight, we’re making it even more memorable with the Kansas City premiere of A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical.

We’ve been looking forward to this one. Bringing an iconic production to our stage for the very first time—and sharing that first experience with our community—that’s exactly what Starlight is all about.

Neil Diamond’s music has a way of doing something remarkable: it finds you. The National High School Musical Theatre Awards™ (the Jimmy Awards) celebrate the best of the best in high school musical theatre from across the nation. Each year, Starlight sends two Blue Star Award winners to New York City to compete.

CHARLOTTE SWEET

Charlotte Sweet performed as Katherine Plumber in Disney’s Newsies. A recent graduate of Platte County High School, Charlotte previously received Blue Star Awards in 2024 for Flotsam in Disney’s The Little Mermaid and in 2025 for Rosie Mulligan in Mamma Mia!.

This fall, she will attend Indiana UniversityBloomington to study Musical Theatre.

MEGAN SHEEHAN

Megan Sheehan performed as Judas Iscariot in Jesus Christ Superstar. A rising senior at Park Hill South High School, Megan was first nominated in this category as a freshman and received the Blue Star Award for Outstanding Performer in a Lead Role in 2025 for portraying Orpheus in Hadestown.

In addition to musical theatre, Megan plays trumpet in both the school band and jazz band.

LETTER FROM NEIL

The idea of a Broadway musical about my life has always been a daunting one. It wasn’t until the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease prematurely ended my touring career that I started to seriously consider the prospect. I say “prematurely” because my heart and soul would tour until the day I die if only my body would cooperate.

My friend and longtime producer Bob Gaudio had some success with his little show, Jersey Boys (perhaps you’ve heard of it?), so I went to him for some guidance on where to begin. Bob brought in Ken Davenport and together they built the incredible creative team that became, A Beautiful Noise.

When Anthony McCarten came on board, we spent hours talking. It was his idea to frame the show in the context of therapy sessions. I loved the idea and never shied away from talking about my years of psychoanalysis. There used to be a stigma around talking about mental health and thankfully through the years, it’s become an important and accepted topic of conversation.

Sitting in the theatre and watching the show has itself been therapeutic: reliving some joyful and some of the painful parts of my life, wishing perhaps that if I could only make a few edits in the script, it would change some of the reality of what I was seeing. But in the end, coming to terms with my life and accepting it has somehow come full circle. I feel fortunate and full of gratitude for all the people in my life. It is each of them who have impacted and shaped me in their own way to get me to the place where I am now…a better man. A better father. A better husband. A better songwriter.

I’d like to thank Marcia and Jaye, this story wouldn’t be possible without you. My children and grandchildren for your most important supporting roles in my life. My wife, Katie, who encouraged me to keep going through this process and finally, to Dr. Lu Katzman, my longtime therapist who inspired this story. May she rest in peace.

ACCESSIBILITY

Parking

Accessible parking is available in the Yellow, Red, and Orange Lots located east and southeast of the theatre. Guests displaying state-issued disabled license plates or placards will be directed to the accessible parking area as space allows.

Mobile Assistance Shuttles

Complimentary curb-to-curb shuttle service is provided to guests with mobility challenges. Starlight operates multi-passenger shuttles that have designated stops in Yellow, Red, Orange and Purple parking lots. Shuttles provide needed transport to and from Gate 8.

Wheelchair Assistance

Starlight personnel are available to provide wheelchair assistance to a seat location prior to the show and back to the gate’s drop off point after the show. Please contact a member of our Guest Assist staff if you need assistance.

Restrooms

There are wheelchair-accessible restrooms throughout the venue. A companion restroom as well as universal changing tables are located in the northeast restrooms closest to Gate 6.

Assistive Listening Services

Assistive listening devices are free at every performance. To obtain a device, visit the South Guest Information Kiosk located across from Ovation. Sunday night Broadway performances are interpreted for deaf and hard-of-hearing patrons.

To use your personal device, connect to the Listen Everywhere app with headset or earbuds and connect to the Starlight Listen Everywhere Wi-Fi.

Sight-Impaired Services

Audio Description (AD) is provided by the Audio-Reader Network during the Saturday night Broadway performances. Guests may obtain an audiodescription device at the Audio-Reader Network table behind Terrace 2.

Sensory Kits

In partnership with Variety KC, Starlight offers sensory kits for guests in need of noise-canceling headsets, weighted blankets, and fidget toys. Sensory kits may be checked out a Guest Information Kiosk.

Weather Policy

All Starlight events are held rain or shine, with the exception of severe/ dangerous weather. Updates are posted on kcstarlight.com/alerts and in the KC Starlight app.

Security Screening Policy

To ensure the safety of all guests, Starlight reserves the right to inspect persons, parcels or clothing capable of concealing or carrying prohibited items into the venue in situations where health, safety or well-being may be compromised. All guests are subject to an inspection of bags and parcels, including pat-downs and use of magnetic wands.

Photography

Use of professional photography equipment or recording devices (video, audio, or other medium) is prohibited to use during a performance without prior written consent. By attending a Starlight performance, guests give their consent to be photographed or recorded by talent, venue, or their contractors.

Smoking Areas

Smoking is prohibited in all areas of the venue except the North Lawn and east of the Encore Deck. This policy applies to cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, cigars, pipes and any other smoking device. Marijuana and all cannabis products are prohibited.
