Welcome to Starlight and to the gloriously absurd world of Monty Python’s Spamalot.

Tonight, you are in for a wildly entertaining adventure filled with unforgettable characters, outrageous comedy, and just enough silliness to remind us not to take ourselves too seriously. Inspired by the classic film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot has become a Broadway favorite for good reason: it is clever, ridiculous, joyful, and a reminder that sometimes the very best thing we can do is laugh together.

And there is something especially meaningful about gathering for a show like this. In a world that often asks us to move faster, worry more, and focus on what divides us, live theatre gives us a chance to simply be present with one another. For a few hours, thousands of us will share the same jokes, the same music, and the same laughter beneath the Kansas City sky. Those shared moments are what make the arts — and the Starlight experience — so special.

At Starlight, we believe live theatre connects our community through experiences that entertain, inspire, and engage. Spamalot may not take itself too seriously, but it does remind us of something important: joy is meant to be shared. There is real value in coming together as a community to laugh, celebrate creativity, and appreciate the incredible artists, musicians, crew members, staff, and volunteers who make nights like this possible.

As you settle into your seats, I hope you will give yourself permission to embrace the fun, laugh a little louder than usual, and enjoy every delightfully unexpected moment this production has to offer.

STARLIGHT AND DISNEY ARE BRINGING THE MAGIC OF THE DISNEY MUSICALS IN SCHOOLS PROGRAM TO KANSAS CITY.

The goals of this program are to:

Create sustainable musical theatre programs in under-resourced public elementary schools

Provide school faculty with training and tools

Develop awareness and appreciation of the arts in the school

Develop a strong community of students, parents, faculty, staff, and neighbors

Expose students and faculty to the wide spectrum of skills that develop when producing musical theatre

Starlight will select up to five KC metro elementary schools to participate during the ‘26-’27 school year. Selected schools receive free performance materials and in-school support from Starlight teaching artists.

MAJOR ATTAWAY (King Arthur) is a Broadway, voice, TV, and film actor, director, and Twitch streamer from Fort Worth, TX. On Broadway, he starred as The Genie in Aladdin. OffBroadway, he was heard as Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors. His voice credits include “One Piece,” “Dragon Ball Daima,” “Pokémon Horizons,” and “Twisted Wonderland.”

SEAN BELL (Sir Robin, Guard 1, Brother Maynard). He/him. Sean made his Broadway debut as Bobby in Harmony and received an OCC nomination for Irish Rep’s play The Beacon. ERIC IDLE (Book, Music & Lyrics) is one of the original six creators of Monty Python’s Flying Circus which began life on BBCTV in 1969. They eventually made six feature films, including two of the top ten comedy movies of all time. Eric, together with longtime collaborator and Composer John Du Prez, adapted The Holy Grail, into the hit musical Monty Python’s Spamalot, which ran for almost five years on Broadway, and popped up again on Broadway in a 2023 revival and is now touring the US. The original was nominated for 13 Tonys, winning 3, including Best Director for Mike Nichols and the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2005, plus a Drama Desk Award, and a Grammy for the authors. They then created a Comic Oratorio Not The Messiah, He’s a Very Naughty Boy based on Monty Python’s Life of Brian, which premiered in Toronto, and played The Sydney Opera House, The Hollywood Bowl, Wolf Trap, and Carnegie Hall and was eventually filmed with most of the Pythons at The Royal Albert Hall for the 40th Anniversary of Monty Python. Eric wrote, directed and starred in The Rutles, the world’s first mockumentary, and in 2012 he sang his own song Always Look On the Bright Side of Life, before a billion people at the Closing Ceremony of the London Olympics. In 2014 he directed and appeared alongside Conductor John Du Prez in the Monty Python final reunion show One Down Five To Go which sold out London’s O2 Arena for ten nights. In 2018 his Sortabiography Always Look on the Bright of Life became a New York Times Best seller. In 2019 he was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer which he survived thanks to early diagnosis and great Doctors. Following his appearance on The Masked Singer in 2022, he launched The Bright Side Fund (Standup2Cancer/Eric Idle) to help fund Research. His musical play What About Dick? with songs by JDP is currently playing on Prime and his latest book The Spamalot Diaries which tell the tale of the creation of Spamalot has just been nominated for a Thurber Award. His forthcoming book Idle in Provence, A Brief History of Thyme will be published by Harpers Select in September 2026.

A Grammy Award winning composer, John Du Prez has scored over 20 feature films including A Fish Called Wanda, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I-III, Once Bitten, The Meaning of Life and the cult classic “Weird Al” Yankovic’s UHF. A Trevelyan Scholar at Christ Church, Oxford (Oriental Studies) he worked as a Music Lecturer at London University 1974 -9 and was Principal Horn of the Hong Kong Philharmonic and many other orchestras. music for Monty Python’s Life of Brian. It was on this project that he first worked with Eric Idle. This began their long writing partnership which culminated in Spamalot and Not The Messiah. He also worked on two movies for George Harrison’s Handmade Films (Bullshot & Shanghai Surprise) and played trumpet on many Top 20 hits with the UK salsa band Modern Romance, winners of the Best New Band 1981 award from the NY DJ Syndicate for their club hit Everybody Salsa. He was Music Director for Python’s 2014 O2 Arena concerts and recently scored the Bafta Award winning TV animation series The Clangers. ACCESSIBILITY

Parking

Accessible parking is available in the Yellow, Red, and Orange Lots located east and southeast of the theatre. Guests displaying state-issued disabled license plates or placards will be directed to the accessible parking area as space allows.

Mobile Assistance Shuttles

Complimentary curb-to-curb shuttle service is provided to guests with mobility challenges. Starlight operates multi-passenger shuttles that have designated stops in Yellow, Red, Orange and Purple parking lots. Shuttles provide needed transport to and from Gate 8.

Wheelchair Assistance

Starlight personnel are available to provide wheelchair assistance to a seat location prior to the show and back to the gate’s drop off point after the show. Please contact a member of our Guest Assist staff if you need assistance.

Restrooms

There are wheelchair-accessible restrooms throughout the venue. A companion restroom as well as universal changing tables are located in the northeast restrooms closest to Gate 6.

Assistive Listening Services

Assistive listening devices are free at every performance. To obtain a device, visit the South Guest Information Kiosk located across from Ovation. Sunday night Broadway performances are interpreted for deaf and hard-of-hearing patrons.

To use your personal device, connect to the Listen Everywhere app with headset or earbuds and connect to the Starlight Listen Everywhere Wi-Fi.

Sight-Impaired Services

Audio Description (AD) is provided by the Audio-Reader Network during the Saturday night Broadway performances. Guests may obtain an audiodescription device at the Audio-Reader Network table behind Terrace 2.

Sensory Kits

In partnership with Variety KC, Starlight offers sensory kits for guests in need of noise-canceling headsets, weighted blankets, and fidget toys. Sensory kits may be checked out a Guest Information Kiosk.

Weather Policy

All Starlight events are held rain or shine, with the exception of severe/ dangerous weather. Updates are posted on kcstarlight.com/alerts and in the KC Starlight app.

Security Screening Policy

To ensure the safety of all guests, Starlight reserves the right to inspect persons, parcels or clothing capable of concealing or carrying prohibited items into the venue in situations where health, safety or well-being may be compromised. All guests are subject to an inspection of bags and parcels, including pat-downs and use of magnetic wands.

Photography

Use of professional photography equipment or recording devices (video, audio, or other medium) is prohibited to use during a performance without prior written consent. By attending a Starlight performance, guests give their consent to be photographed or recorded by talent, venue, or their contractors.

Smoking Areas

Smoking is prohibited in all areas of the venue except the North Lawn and east of the Encore Deck. This policy applies to cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, cigars, pipes and any other smoking device. Marijuana and all cannabis products are prohibited.
