Interstellar Live ROGER SAYER ORGAN
oger Sayer is at the forefront of British choral and organ music. A former organ student at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Roger was a prize winner at the 1989 St. Albans International Organ Competition and won all the organ prizes at the Royal College of Music. Since then, he has been constantly in demand both as a recitalist and accompanist, and his playing takes him to many parts of the world. Roger Sayer’s most notable performance work is as organ soloist for Hans Zimmer’s Oscar-nominated score for the motion picture “Interstellar.” Roger later went on to perform the work live with composer Hans Zimmer in a live showing of the film at London’s Royal Albert Hall. He also was special guest at London’s O2 with Hans Zimmer and his world tour. In addition to his organ playing, Roger Sayer is also an acclaimed choral director with some of the U.K.’s finest choirs. After founding the Rochester Cathedral Girls’ choir, Roger was organist and director of music at Temple Church from 2013 to 2023 and created an impressive portfolio of broadcasts, concerts and recordings. The choir’s recording and performances during his time were universally awarded five stars. During the pandemic he commissioned two works specifically for the boys of the choir. One of the works, Carmina Tempore Viri by Kenneth Hesketh, led to a live BBC Radio 3 concert with the choristers as they emerged after 18 months rehearsing on Zoom. He also initiated a new youth choir of boys and girls at Temple Church. Roger Sayer worked regularly with the London Symphony Chorus for ten years as accompanist and deputy chorus director, collaborating with many of the world’s leading conductors and soloists. Learn more about him at www.rogersayer.org.

You know him as the chief meteorologist at KMBC 9, a percussionist who has performed with the Kansas City Symphony, and an advocate for organ, eye and tissue donation. His goddaughter, Helena, needed a heart transplant. She passed away at 20 years old while waiting for the gift of a donor heart. In her honor, Bryan is a Green Ribbon Champion with Midwest Transplant Network. He encourages people across the metro to learn what it means to be a registered donor. Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde DOROTHY PAPADAKOS ORGAN
orothy Papadakos is one of the great organ improvisers of our time, having started out as a jazz pianist in Reno/ Tahoe, Nevada. She has performed worldwide as a touring musician and recording artist and member of the 6-time GRAMMY® Award–winning Paul Winter Consort (jazz/ world music). Passionate about indigenous and world music, she has traveled the world to study musical traditions which infuse her improvisations and composing. From 1990 to 2003 Dorothy was the first and only woman cathedral organist at New York City’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. Her five CDs feature international guest artists including her favorite singers, humpback whales. She has composed orchestral and choral works, including a ballet for her Carnegie Hall debut as a composer. She wrote the book, music and lyrics for Divine Wine, which began life as Pompeii in an Equity workshop production that broke historic box office records, selling 6,000+ tickets over two weekends at Thalian Hall Center for the Performing Arts in Wilmington, North Carolina. The first book of her planned four-volume climate science adventure books for kids, “The Kingdom of Winter,” is now a STEM science and literature curriculum for middle schools. From “Nosferatu” and “The Phantom of the Opera” to Alfred Hitchcock and Charlie Chaplin, Dorothy’s improvised silent film concerts are a sold-out tradition in the U.S. and around the world in venues with spectacular pipe organs. She is married to landscape designer Tracy McCullen, with whom she is co-founder and president of the Optimism Oasis Sports Complex.

SPECIAL PRESENTATION
The Music of Studio Ghibli WILBUR LIN
GUEST CONDUCTOR nown for his thoughtful programming, compelling storytelling and audience engagement, Taiwanese-American conductor Wilbur Lin’s career has centered on the United States, Canada and Taiwan, with additional engagements in Europe and Latin America. His 2026/27 season includes appearances with the St. Louis Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, Oregon Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Nashville Symphony, Billings Symphony and Dayton Philharmonic, as well as returns to the Taipei Symphony and Ann Arbor Symphony, following recent concerts with the Cincinnati Symphony, Louisiana Philharmonic, Rochester Philharmonic and Symphony Nova Scotia. Lin conducted over 70 concerts during his tenure as associate conductor of the Colorado Symphony and recently made his first guest appearance with the Cincinnati Pops after his time as assistant conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony. He is currently music director of the Missouri Symphony Orchestra. An equally strong advocate for new music and neglected composers of the past, especially American and British women composers, Lin is closely associated with the research and performance of works by Alice Mary Smith and Amy Beach. His recordings include Marion Bauer’s American Youth Piano Concerto, Alice Mary Smith’s The Masque of Pandora Overture with the Denver Young Artists Orchestra and the premiere recording of Carl Busch’s Ozarka Suite with the Missouri Symphony Orchestra. Lin has also built a distinct body of work around audience engagement and recording projects, including his curated presentations of Joe Hisaishi’s concert suites, the creation of a multimedia education concert series with the Taipei Symphony and a studio recording with Eric Zuber and the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. Educated in Taiwan, the United Kingdom and the United States, Lin holds degrees from Indiana University, the Royal Northern College of Music and National Taiwan Normal University, where his mentors included David Effron, Arthur Fagen, Clark Rundell, Mark Heron and Apo Hsu. He has also received conducting coaching with, among others, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Riccardo Muti, Sir Mark Elder and Helmuth Rilling. Lin resides with his wife in New York City, is an avid runner and flies just enough to justify maintaining his private pilot certificate. 30

About the Kansas City Symphony only its 45th season, the Kansas City Symphony has already become one of America’s most vibrant major orchestras and has gained national and international recognition. With the 2024/25 season, the Symphony welcomed conductor and composer Matthias Pintscher as its new music director. Pintscher regularly conducts many of the world’s best orchestras and opera companies and ranks as one of the world’s foremost composers of orchestral music. Continually creating live music experiences in Helzberg Hall, located in the prestigious Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, the Symphony serves Kansas City’s metro population of more than 2.2 million people as well as welcoming visitors from around the globe. The Symphony’s 80 full-time musicians from around the world bring a diverse and dynamic range of musical experiences to our audiences in both orchestral and chamber music formats each season. In addition to concerts in Helzberg Hall, Symphony musicians perform throughout the region on our portable stage, the Mobile Music Box. The Symphony also serves as the orchestra for the Kansas City Ballet and the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, adding to the rich cultural experiences that these organizations offer to the community. Top international soloists perform with the Kansas City Symphony every season, including brilliant classical musicians, popular singer/ songwriters, rock bands and other creative performers. The Symphony also performs live soundtracks for a variety of fan-favorite films, with the movie projected on a giant screen above the stage. Music connects us; it has the unique ability to draw us closer to our inner selves and also closer to one another, transcending our differences. Every Kansas City Symphony concert will take you on an emotional journey — a journey that’s deeply personal but also a journey that we all experience together as one. We’re happy you are here. We are your Kansas City Symphony.

Emergency Evacuation Procedure The Kauffman Center is equipped with advanced life-safety early alert systems. Each performance hall is designed with emergency exits in case of an evacuation. In the event of severe weather, shelter in place inside the hall, not in a lobby area, and await further instructions. In the event of an emergency, the performance will be interrupted. Horns and strobes will sound. Emergency instructions will be delivered from the stage. Please remain seated as staff use an appropriate amount of investigational time to verify the source of the alarm.* Should an evacuation be necessary, lighted red (Muriel Kauffman Theatre) and green (Helzberg Hall) exit signs will lead patrons to one of eight emergency exit paths. Patrons who are not able to safely and comfortably navigate stairs should remain in the venue near one of the marked “Emergency Evacuation Assistance” areas. First responders will evacuate those requiring assistance immediately upon their arrival. Elevators, primary entrances and the Brandmeyer Great Hall staircase are NOT used in the case of an emergency evacuation. For more information on emergency evacuation procedures, visit kauffmancenter.org/policies.
