Kent Hall ‘crazies’ at it again By Zeke Willcox THE HUTCHINSON COLLEGIAN

At Hutchinson Community College, Kent Hall dormitory is known for its outrageous events. In the past, Kent has had issues with fire alarms, psychotic toilets and loud door alarms. But Kent Hall is still experiencing some mayhem and mishaps. Most recently, correspondents among its residents report some odd and fascinating sights that they’ve seen or been a part of. For example: The is “the case of the showboat lovers.” On Nov. 7, as two students were walking back to their dorm at Kent Hall, they noticed a bottom window open with the curtains pulled back. To their horror and embarrassment, they noticed a young couple having enthusiastic intercourse.
Within the same hour those same two students saw a group of students with condoms, visible in their hands, heading into Kent Hall — vocalizing their hopeful intentions as they entered the building. The interesting events didn’t stop there, as residents of Kent Hall on Nov. 11 witnessed a distressed student vocalize her disdain at having being ran out of her dorm room for accidently walking in on her roommate having sex. This student ranted and raved well into the early hours of morning, vowing to have harsh words for her roommate. The events continued on Nov. 13, as female students heard loud noises in the hall, and went to investigate things that left her nearly speechless. “The girls next door had left their door open,” she said, “I heard loud
noises. When I went over, I found that the noises were moans, as I witnessed a showing of video nudity and cheesy pornos.” Events continued to escalate, as on Nov. 16, as a female and male student were witnessed having a loud argument that woke students up from their sleep at 2 a.m. This duo continued to have a screaming match until about 4 a.m., to the despair of Kent Hall residents. Most recently, on Nov. 17, Kent Hall residents decided to have some good clean, yet frozen, fun, as a snowball fight was brought inside and chaos took over. Floors were soaked as the snow began to melt, but many residents said they had a good time while it lasted. Conclusion: There is never a dull moment when you live in Kent Hall.
DragonLAN looks at bright future, pride in active past

Sports programs have had great success in building programs that have gained national attention. But an often forgotten club is also celebrating their existence at HCC. The student club, DragonLAN, is in its tenth year. It was originally put together by a group of students, along with instructors Matt Malone and Jillene Cunningham in 2004, and it still thrives. To any outside students who happened across the STC Justice Theatre on Nov. 14, they may have noticed an absurd amount of soda, custom- built computer systems and

young humans staring intently at their LCD computer screens. At intervals, you could hear the groans and a moans of a losing party, or shrills of a newly crowned winner — a champion who may have just slain a beastly animal with only an iron-cast sword. Students, former and current, come from all over the area to attend an event held every couple months by the club, but many don’t come just for the free soda or cheap pizza. Many come for the sheer thrill of dooming an enemy agent in a virtual world that glows on the screen in front of them. Jackson Wolf, president of DragonLAN, hopes that the events held this past semester will help spread word and bring in more people for upcoming events next semester. One of these events will
be the 10-year anniversary event to be held in April. Attendance at the events has peaked at about 50 attendees. The group, which votes in four positions to oversee the operations, held a meeting during the recent event to discuss future plans and events. One decision was what tournament to have next. “We’ll be playing a free-for-all shooter; we don’t know which one it is, though,” Jackson said. “It will be a free game that will be available to anyone who brings their PC.” Events like these are usually held four to five times a year, depending on scheduling conflicts within the college. This year, only four events are to be held, a low for the club. That doesn’t deter the elected officials from doing their best to make the experience great for anyone
who is interested. “It’s for anyone that wants to play games,” Jackson said. “Even mobile(handheld) gamers are welcome.” The future of the club looks bright as many ideas are constantly being floated around, for bigger and better events. “We’re talking about monetizing it more, so that way we can give out insane prizes,” said Julian Smith, vice president. Those plans include selling ad space on their club T-shirts to help purchase equipment and more prizes to give out at tournaments.
