This December, Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol returns to The Hanover Theatre like you’ve never seen it before. We’ve reimagined this cherished story with brand-new sets, music, choreography, lighting, and projections to create a vibrant, immersive experience for audiences of all ages. It’s a bold new vision of a classic tale, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
Productions like this are made possible thanks to the generosity of patrons like you. Your support of our annual fund allows us to continue creating unforgettable performances, nurture emerging artists through our conservatory, and strengthen our connection through the arts. Every gift helps keep this work thriving.
As the year draws to a close, I’m reflecting on my first full year at The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory. Meeting so many of you, seeing extraordinary performances on our stage, and discovering the heart of this community has been incredible. This year has been a remarkable journey for my family and I, and together we have experienced laughter, awe, celebration, and so much more. I'm continually inspired by the energy, pride, and generosity that make Worcester and The Hanover Theatre such a special place to call home.
Thank you for celebrating this season with us and for supporting the work we do. We wish you a joyful and peaceful holiday season.

Dear friends,
This holiday season, I am grateful for you choosing to experience our 18th annual production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, and hope that you will take a bit of joy away with you to spread to your friends and loved ones.

There are so many adaptations of A Christmas Carol out there - between the many films and countless regional theatre productions each year - and I like to reflect on what it is that makes our production unique. Our use of the Mighty Wurlitzer theatre organ to accompany and underscore what's on stage gives the production so much warmth - it's truly one of my favorite things about the show. This year we've reimagined this festive holiday favorite with a new set designed by award-winning set designer Kelly James Tighe, original music composed by Worcester’s own Steve Gagliastro, new choreography, lighting, and projections.
Each year in rehearsals for A Christmas Carol we reflect on how Scrooge came to be the way he is. He's not a bad person; he just made a series of wellintentioned choices in his life that have landed him where he is. All of us have bits of Ebenezer Scrooge in our own character, and I hope that today's visits from the Spirits of Christmases Past, Present and Future resonate with all of us as they do with Scrooge, to help us all to see our place in the world.
Best wishes to you and your loved ones for a restful and peaceful holiday season.

Gravity-defying moves inspired by daily life in Guinea

Inspired by daily life in the West African country of Guinea, Cirque Kalabanté’s Afrique en Cirque brings the beauty, youth, and artistry of African culture to our stage on February 18. This high-energy production features acrobats performing gravity-defying feats, all accompanied by the contemporary sounds of live Afro-Jazz, percussion, and kora.
With its vibrant scenery and costumes, the show radiates the strength, agility, and joy of young Africans. Its blend of movement, music, and storytelling offers a thrilling, deeply immersive experience that makes an exhilarating addition to our inaugural dance series.
Kalabanté Productions was created by Yamoussa Bangoura, a multidisciplinary artist of Guinean origin whose lifelong dream was to establish a circus arts school and lead his own company rooted in African artistic traditions. Yamoussa’s fascination with circus began in the 1990s in Conakry, where he studied European performers on television and practiced movement on the beaches and dirt surrounding his home. He also drew from the Nyamakala tradition of circus, practiced by the Fula people of West Africa.
Yamoussa’s talent led him to join Guinea’s original circus company, Circus Baobab, touring across Africa and Europe. In the early 2000s, Yamoussa was recruited to go to Montreal with Cirque Éloize, later performing with Cirque du Soleil and Cavalia. In 2007, he founded Kalabanté Productions, bringing together many members of his extended family to build a company that celebrates African culture through truly extraordinary artistry.

The Tony®-nominated musical Mrs. Doubtfire, a hilarious and family-friendly comedy, is coming to The Hanover Theatre June 26-28, and we had a chance to chat with ensemble member Jayden Cyrus Nelson about their journey and experience with the show.
Fresh out of Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Jayden quickly found themselves on the path to Broadwaylevel performance. “I was incredibly fortunate to be invited to audition for Mrs. Doubtfire shortly after graduation,” they said. After sending a self-tape and returning to New York City for callbacks, Jayden received the exciting news they’d been offered a role and went straight into rehearsals.

Jayden describes Mrs. Doubtfire as a story about love, family, and hope. “There is an importance of maintaining relationships when faced with hardship and change. It celebrates the power of love and hope, and of course, we all love happy endings,” they said.
For Jayden, the magic of Mrs. Doubtfire lies in its mix of nostalgia and fresh storytelling. Fans of the movie will catch familiar Easter eggs, while new elements bring the story alive in a completely new way. Ultimately, Jayden hopes the Worcester audience will leave “…feeling hopeful, uplifted, and thoroughly entertained. Most importantly, I hope everyone walks away understanding and embracing the message of the show: ‘All is not lost, as long as there is love.’”

The Hanover Theatre had its spectacular opening on March 14, 2008, with legendary Broadway star Bernadette Peters and the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, after a $31 million restoration effort.
Originally opened in 1904 as the Franklin Square Theatre, this building had a storied run as a Broadway touring playhouse (including featuring celebrated French actress Sarah Bernhardt in 1906), then The Grand Theatre. In 1926, it was transformed into the opulent and luxurious Poli's Palace, a “Grand Movie Palace” showcasing vaudeville acts, silent films, and “talkies,” designed by renowned theatre architect Thomas W. Lamb. Eventually, this building became the Loew’s-Poli Theatre, and then a modern Showcase Cinema in 1973 playing blockbuster movies such as “STAR WARS,” “ALIEN,” “JAWS,” and many more until shutting its doors in 1998.
Since opening, The Hanover Theatre has been home to over 2,440 performances, 3 million visitors, 114 touring Broadway shows, 415 concerts, and 166 family programs on its stage. Highlights include Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, Ringo Starr, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, John Legend, Neil Young, Diana Ross, David Copperfield, Kevin James, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.
The theatre’s most recent tenants include Pete Davidson, Sarah Brightman, and Broadway touring shows Hansen
