Hammock History on The Outer Banks

In 1974, we opened our first little store on the beach road with a few hundred square feet, friendly service, and plenty of hammocks. Beyond the warm smiles and all that rope, there lay dedication and a commitment. Our objective: to deliver products that are comfortable and durable enough to withstand the test of time.

Although we have outgrown that first store and expanded our product offering, Nags Head Hammocks remains committed to handcrafting every hammock, every swing, and every piece of outdoor furniture right here in North Carolina. We use industry-leading materials, proven crafting techniques, and over Fifty Years of experience to produce the most comfortable and durable products anywhere. For those who discovered us when the beach had a more rustic charm, rest assured that our stores are now more inviting than ever. DURACORD® ROPE

Solution-dyed synthetic blend rope that is as soft as cotton and more durable than polyester. This combination makes the rope weatherproof and resistant to rot, mold, and mildew.

NON-ABSORBENT PADDING

Polyester fiberfill batting lines the inside of our quilted and tufted hammocks. The fiberfill is a non-absorbent material allowing for quick drying so that mold and mildew are not able to form.

ROLLED RIM GROMMETS WITH SPUR WASHERS

Compared to telescoping grommets used by most of our competitors, our Rolled Rim Grommets create the most secure bond between fabric and ring knot, withstanding more stress and heavier use.

CUMARU HARDWOOD

Cumaru is a nonabsorbent South American hardwood that resists rotting, doesn't split after extended exposure to the sun, is unattractive to insects and naturally weathers to a beautiful silver-gray. All of our own cumaru is harvested only from managed forests.
