CARDINALS FOOTBALL TRIVIA 1. The team started in Chicago before moving to St. Louis in 1960. Since 1988, the team has resided in the Grand Canyon State. 2. The Cardinals get their namesake and team color from original owner Chris O’Brien, who bought used jerseys from the University of Chicago for the boys. He described their faded red color as “Cardinal Red.” 3. Originally called the Morgan Athletic Club, the Arizona Cardinals were founded in 1898, making them the oldest continuously running professional football team in the United States. 4. The team retired player No. 40 in memory of Pat Tillman, who played for the team from 1998 to 2002. Tillman enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served in Afghanistan and was killed in combat.
