Current measures to protect vets from drug abuse are indequate
The Government Accountability Office has found serious problems with the way the Department of Veterans Affairs handles controlled substances and guards against having those drugs stolen by VA employees. Out of four facilities the GAO was asked to review, one had missed its required monthly inspection of patient-care areas and the pharmacy 43 percent of the time. Three facilities failed to follow three of the nine requirements for handling controlled substances. Consider what happens when an addict pharmacy worker either takes or changes the drugs he or she is to deliver to a hospital ward or surgical unit. There was a case where an employee had been confiscating fentanyl (an anesthetic) destined for surgery patients and was using it for himself—while refilling the vials with saline solution. The GAO report concluded in part that the VA’s “ability to detect diversion and protect its veterans from harm—such as depriving them of needed pain medications—is limited.”

Making pizza is an art. I had to work my way up to that.” In addition to the many sandwiches and pizzas made at Little Sicily, the menu boasts authentic Italian pasta dishes and appetizers, as well as delicious desserts.
“The Cannoli is homemade and the Tiramisu is brought in fresh from Chicago,” says Alaimo. Among the other unique services available at Little Sicily, is BYOB (Bring your favorite wine and beer). Between pesky TSA agents, crowded lines, and overpriced airport food, it seems impossible to keep up that vacation spirit. Take a breath, and get ready to a fly a little smarter. You can travel with alcohol Even most frequent fliers don’t know about this helpful tip! It’s true—you can actually bring your own alcohol on the plane. Over your shock? Good, because it’s true. All you need to do is ensure that your bottles are 100 ml or less, and are kept in an 8-by-8-inch plastic storage bag. Just keep in mind that it is not legal to consume your own alcohol on a plane. You can bring it—you just can’t drink it. Ask to be upgraded Have you ever walked through an empty first class, only to have to sit in a packed coach section? Sure,
it’s frustrating, and it really shouldn’t happen, but sometimes there are booking errors made by the airlines. So, if you’ve ever wanted to experience the luxury treatment, just ask to be upgraded at the gate. You’ll be surprised by how often this works! If you don’t ask the answer will always be “no!” Carry an empty water bottle Buying a bottle of water after going through the security line is almost always ridiculously expensive. Charge your phone in airplane mode Between looking up directions, restaurant reviews, and in some cases, the local language, we all end up using our phones quite a bit—and we need them to charge super fast! Being the oldest daughter, I was always a caregiver which I believe influenced me to pursue work in the healthcare industry. Today, I have three daughters and five grandchildren.
