November is a month chalked full of reminders to count our blessings. Setting the Table for Thanksgiving
By Courtney Cavanaugh Greger For the first time in a very long time, I’m hosting Thanksgiving dinner. So, I want everyone to feel like they can sit and enjoy, and that I am thankful for their presence in my home. I desire the meal to be a time of pause and reflection. So, with that in mind I came up with how to create a beautiful story with your Thanksgiving table.
ADULT ELEGANCE
If you want an elegant adult space stick with a monochromatic theme. Ivory linens and tableware mixed with crystal and metallic accents create a soothing elegant feel. Mix and match chargers and china. The more texture the better. Ivory linen napkins with an ivory tablecloth creates a softness to the table. Add candles for more lighting, along with elegant name tags trimmed in ribbon. Ivory roses or hydrangeas in a crystal or silver vase will complement this look.
FAMILY CASUAL
The Farmhouse table will be the big trend of the year. Combine textures and colors but stick to a theme. I like wooden chargers with a blend of cups and plates. Use cotton napkins with a more casual feel. Add flowers and a blend of painted mini pumpkins to support your color story. Have kids make the name tags and give them an assortment of pre-selected items that will support the color theme and let them do their thing. A paper table

Don’t worry if you are starting from scratch. Mixing and matching plates and cups makes for a beautiful table. The days of having 8 perfect place setting is over. And for those of us with children, I own 3 of everything because there was always one piece that was broken over the years!!!! Embrace that! Just stick with a color and keep things in pairs. Four pairs of different plates, all in white or ivory look great together. The same goes with wine glasses and water glasses. Thrift what you need to add to the table. Candle sticks, mini pumpkins and vases can all be painted to match your theme. It is when you make everything a reflection of your style that the table comes to life. Don’t be afraid to abandon the same old china and try something new. When you create an inviting space, your guest will feel comfortable and loved. Handing money to someone in need may put a smile on both the recipient’s face and your own. A new study from the University of Zurich reports finding a link between the brain regions activated by generosity and those involved in happiness.

Supplies: Paper footballs (or mini footballs), buckets and pots, masking tape and markers to add scores. How to Play: Give each player paper footballs or these mini footballs and line up a bunch of buckets or baskets at varying length. Tape a number to each of the buckets – the furthest one should be 7 points, the middle should be 3 points, and the closest should be 1. Players have one minute to flick (like you’re playing paper football) footballs into the buckets, scoring as many points as possible in the minute. Or have teams play simultaneously by using different colored footballs, and see who can get to 21 points first.
THE GOBLET GOBBLE Supplies: Plastic goblets, orange ping pong balls. How to Play: Purchase glass or plastic goblets and place one per team/player on a table on a far side of the room. On the other side of the room, place orange ping pong balls. To play, players must transfer three ping pong balls from the table to their goblet on the opposite side of the room. The catch? They can only touch (and hold) the ping pong ball between their chin and their neck.
