Of all human traits, the ability to see the big picture is perhaps the most important in achieving success. The capacity to not be distracted by small, trivial and irrelevant things allows an individual to accomplish small goals that lead to great success. Here are some tips. Get your priorities right It’s all about how you want to spend your time: whether to keep working or retire, whether to take up a new hobby or work on existing ones, whether to travel to visit your children and grandchildren or host them at your place, whether to stay married or get divorced; whether to remarry if widowed or divorced; and they are all affected by how you choose to spend your money. Stay focused This means sticking with your priorities and goals; focusing on the message, not on the background
noise; and executing. Take the right steps to reach your goals. It takes patience, persistence and discipline to stay focused—patience to overcome the hurdles that stand between you and your goal; persistence to overcome the failures, setbacks and temptations that may take you off course; and discipline to play the game right, to comply with all the rules, know what you are doing, be punctual and work out all the details. While you probably have a lot of thoughts in your head, you have a choice of which ones to focus on: your fears and doubts or trying new things and stepping out of your comfort zone. Use your imagination When things go well, positive energy seems easy to harness. When you are experiencing difficulties, however, you need even more energy, which requires changing your situation. If you don’t like your work, use your imagination to find something positive to motivate you to finish the task at hand. Get rid of distractions Meaningless things and distractions will always be in your way, especially those easy, usual things you would rather do instead of focusing on new challenging and meaningful projects. Learn to focus on what is most important. Write a list of time-wasters and hold yourself accountable to not do them.

Evidently, she was so intent on following the directions provided to her that she wasn’t paying attention to where those directions were taking her—that is, until she ended up driving into Georgian Bay!
