MECHANICAL & ELECTRICAL PROJECT: FAQ for Gold Members

Whilst not impacting the Gold member spaces directly, it is expected that work will take place on the Ground Floor Educational Workshops from Friday 3 July until Wednesday 22 July 2026 inclusive, noise may be heard.

It is expected that from Friday 17 July until Wednesday 12 August 2026 inclusive all standard Gold membership spaces will be closed while M&E works are carried out. Mailboxes and the postal service will be available per usual.

What alternative hot-bench, hot-desk and meeting room spaces will be available to Gold Members during the works?

We will be sending out an online questionnaire to understand everyone’s needs during this period.

Hot-benches Gold members will have access to hot-benches in the Ground Floor Specialist Workshop throughout the duration of the works (Thu 23 July – Tue 11 August 2026).

Access times will be reduced:

• Specialist Workshop operating hours: 9am – 4.45pm

• Gas and electric facilities: 9am – 4.45pm

Gold members will be expected to have left the Specialist Workshop by 5pm.

Meeting Room Client meetings will be possible in the Second Floor Seminar Room during part of the works (Mon 20 July – Thu 30 July 2026).

Access hours are Monday until Friday, 9am -4.45pm.

unavailable due to the M&E project. The fee rebate will be calculated based on the number of days during which Gold members are unable to access their facilities as usual. This is predicted at present to be two weeks (circa 10 workings days).

How will lockers, tools, and valuables be managed during the works?

We’ve coordinated with the contractors so Gold Members can continue to access their regular lockers in both the hot-bench and hot-desk areas. We’ll notify the contractors via radio when it’s time to collect or return items, and temporary security passes will be issued for all areas during this period.

As the building will be a live work site, there may occasionally be short periods when access to lockers is not possible at short notice due to site activity or safety requirements; we will keep these instances to a minimum and, where possible, provide advance notice. To help minimise disruption, please try to collect and return items only once per day where possible.

If you have concerns about relocating your stored items, we will address your requirements where individually. Please contact us at: goldmembers@goldsmiths-centre.org

Will it be possible to access the vault space?

The vault space will remain accessible as usual; however, please note that our team will be operating with limited capacity during the M&E project works. We therefore ask that you schedule your appointments in advance and remain flexible with your timing.

Will some hot-bench equipment be unavailable during the works?

6 hot-benches will be available in the Specialist Workshop.

We will relocate all frequently used shared hot-bench workshop equipment, based on a careful risk assessment, including the micro flame, pickle, ultrasonic, steamer and drawbench to our educational workshop during the period of the works.

However, please note that the following equipment and service will not be available during this period: laser welder and 3D printing. The laser welder cannot be moved during the works because its delicate optics and precise calibration make it highly sensitive to vibration and misalignment.

Please note that the training workshops contain equipment used for specialist short courses and ongoing training. This equipment will not be available to Gold members during the works period.

How can I book these alternative facilities?

The standard online booking system for Gold members will be in effect during this period for all alternative facilities. It is essential that everyone books, so that we can ensure safe access to the alternative hot-bench workshops and meeting room.

Upon arriving to use the hot-bench spaces, Gold members will be expected to obtain access to the Specialist Workshop by reporting to Security and signing out a pass. Please note your usual Gold membership card will not work during this period, but please keep it safe.

Would it be possible to arrange alternative hot-desking spaces at a different location?

We have arranged for an alternative meeting room at the Goldsmiths’ Centre during most of the period of the works. Please see our FAQ for details.

Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity within our building to provide alternative hotdesking spaces.
