Products and supplies were purchased and provided by The Garrett Co, as well as supplying subcontractors to complete MEP work, flooring, and painting. The new space will provide KIC-IT with the ability to comfortably house up to 4 teens in-need of a place to stay. With The Garrett Companies providing this renovation free-of-charge, KIC-IT is able to allocate more funds to resources such as counseling services or financial assistance for at-risk teens.

Site Planning: the latest in-house capability of TGC
N
ick Smith joined The Garrett Companies as a Landscape Architect in March of 2020 after his family moved back to Indiana from Texas to join Team Garrett and be closer to family. Nick and his family are currently building a home, so he commutes to HQ in Greenwood from the Muncie area most days. With a quick breakfast of banana and granola in hand, Nick sets out for his daily hour and a half commute. Although the drive can be taxing, Nick enjoys the extra one-on-one time he gets to spend with his son Carter before he drops him off at school on the way. Many of Nick’s days are filled with coordination calls, site planning, designing, documenting, and collaborating with development managers and design consultants. Each day is truly different, showing he is the jack of all trades. He keeps busy working on several projects at once and is currently working on design and documentation for six different sites. Much of Nick’s role is site planning. He takes a piece of undeveloped land our team wants to purchase and designs a plan based on the needs of the Investments team including project type, unit count, garage count, and required parking. Site planning provides the team tangible information to see the logistics of a potential site’s layout. Nick often works directly with the Development team to ensure they have everything in line. Ken Koziol and Karl Stout are both major players that partner with Nick to get the job done. In addition to site planning, Nick is also responsible for the design and documentation for all exterior amenity areas including pools, grilling areas, game lawns, dog parks and pedestrian circulation
(sidewalks and trails) throughout the site. Nick also selects the design for monument sign structure which impacts a project’s overall curb appeal. Nick enjoys the constant collaboration with the Development team and other design consultants that ultimately leads to truly successful projects. For Nick, the collaboration and ending up with a well-planned finished community are his favorite parts of being a Landscape Architect. Looking back to where Nick started his career, he has explored different sectors of Landscape Architecture leading to his success at The Garrett Co. After graduating college, Nick and his wife relocated to Santa Monica, California where Nick started his career designing vacation resorts all over the world. After four years in California, they relocated again to Dallas, Texas where they spent the next ten years. During this time, Nick deepened his knowledge and experience while designing various projects from master planning communities, mixed use projects, and hospitality projects. Fast forward to 2020, when Nick and his wife Allison, knew they wanted to be closer to family in Indiana which is when the perfect opportunity to join Team Garrett surfaced. When Nick is not working, he spends time with his wife and two sons. They enjoy being outside, riding bikes, hiking, and spending time on his inlaw’s farm. Nick enjoys home improvement projects and is looking forward to finishing the basement in his new home. FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY AT I. C. BREWHOUSE
What does it take to get the perfect photo of a burger? As the team recently found out, mouth-watering food photography is a delicate and delicious art. The Marketing team in partnership with I.C. Brewhouse recently held a photo shoot capturing the full menu at the restaurant in Centennial. Working with a professional food photographer and a food stylist (yes, this is a legitimate career) the team meticulously worked to get perfect shots. Each menu item was brought out to the set, prepped to look its best, lit with studio lighting, and photographed. Each photo was reviewed in real time on a computer to make sure not a piece of bacon or lettuce was out of place. While the food may look great in the photo, you may not want to dig in. The food stylist used secret tricks to get everything looking its best. That burger – it’s supported with cardboard and held together with straight pins. Those fries - they’re liberally coated with hairspray to look perfectly crisp. Can you say YUM? Joey Huberts and his friend Marc host an episode of their podcast, Rounding3rd, where they break down the biggest baseball news.
The podcasting industry has been booming over the past couple of years and exploded even further when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020. Luckily for Joey Huberts, he was ahead of the curve. Beginning in March of 2019, Joey and his friend Marc began Joey their very own podcast, Huberts Rounding3rd, a baseball podcast dedicated to breaking down the biggest news in the baseball world and sharing their hot takes. Joey and Marc have been friends since high school and still have a passion for all things baseball. The duo has released a number of podcast episodes both during the MLB season and off-season. They
record up to three episodes per month during the season and can’t wait to see what the 2021 season has to offer.
