NOTES
F
ranchising has always been a mirror of where society is headed. In the 1950s, it followed highways. In the 1980s and 90s, it followed malls and suburbia. Today, it is following something deeper: pressure. Pressure on time, health, infrastructure, labor, the environment, and peace of mind. The most interesting new franchise brands are not chasing novelty for novelty’s sake. They are answering questions people feel every day but rarely articulate. How do I get my time back? How do I keep my family safe and healthy? How do I run lean without sacrificing quality? How do I build a business that actually matters? Across industries, a new generation of franchise systems is emerging. They are mobile-first. Asset-light. Service-driven. Built for recurring revenue. Most importantly, they are designed around real-world friction. This is not accidental. It is what happens when brave entrepreneurs decide to build for the future instead of polishing the past. THE NEW RULE: REMOVE FRICTION, ADD DIGNITY Look at the common thread across today’s strongest emerging brands. They remove something painful. An unnecessary trip. A stressful experience. A messy process. An outdated assumption. Juiced Fuel removes the gas station. Fluffy Pet Wash removes the anxiety of grooming dropoffs. VA+ removes bloated overhead and staffing headaches. IAQ Experts removes invisible health risks inside buildings. Roamin Restrooms removes the idea that “temporary” has to mean uncomfortable. These businesses are not selling luxuries. They are selling relief. That shift matters for franchising because relief scales. When a system reliably removes friction, customers return. When customers return, franchisees build predictable revenue. When

revenue is predictable, operators can focus on execution instead of survival. This is why service franchising is evolving faster than retail or restaurants. You do not need foot traffic when the problem comes to you.
SUBCONTAIN: INFRASTRUCTURE HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT Waste is one of the least glamorous industries in America, which is exactly why it is ripe for innovation. SubContain operates where nobody else wants to look: behind buildings, under lids, in alleys and loading zones. The insight is simple. Trash takes up space. Space costs money. Poor waste management creates mess, complaints, inefficiency, and unnecessary hauling. SubContain reframes waste as infrastructure. By improving how trash is stored and handled, it reduces costs, improves cleanliness, and makes properties function better. That is not branding fluff. It is operational leverage. As a franchise, SubContain attracts a certain type of operator. Someone comfortable selling to businesses and municipalities. Someone who understands routes, contracts, and longterm accounts. This is not impulse buying. It is durable, boring-in-a-good-way revenue. The future of franchising is not always flashy. Sometimes it is concrete, steel, and systems done right.
CRS: CALM IN THE MIDDLE OF CHAOS If SubContain solves a visible problem, CRS solves an emotional one. Restoration work happens on the worst days. Floods. Fires. Mold. Structural damage. When people call CRS, they are not price shopping. They are overwhelmed. What separates a strong restoration franchise from a weak one is not equipment. It is process. Speed. Documentation. Communication. The ability to bring order into chaos. CRS works because it professionalizes something that used to feel fragmented. Clear standards. Trained response. A system that protects the customer and the franchisee at the same time. That is a pattern you will see again and again in emerging franchises. The best systems do not just help customers. They protect operators from burnout, liability, and improvisation.
RESTING RAINBOW: DIGNITY AS A SERVICE Few industries have been ignored as thoroughly as pet aftercare. For years, it was treated as an afterthought, despite pets being family members in millions of households. Resting Rainbow approaches the category differently. It treats the end-of-life moment with structure, compassion, and respect. That requires systems. Logistics. Training. Sensitivity. Consistency. This is not a business built on volume alone. It is built on trust. As a franchise, Resting Rainbow shows how purpose-driven businesses can still be operationally sound. The demand is steady. The margins are real. The emotional impact is undeniable.
The future belongs to brands that can handle serious moments without becoming sentimental or sloppy. THE RISE OF MOBILE, ASSET-LIGHT MODELS Across the franchise landscape, one shift is impossible to ignore. Real estate is no longer a prerequisite. Brands like Juiced Fuel, Fluffy Pet Wash, Complete Mobile Drug Testing, STEM GUYS Tire Supplies, Two Guys, No Truck, and Pickled Court all operate without traditional storefronts. They move instead of waiting. This changes the economics of franchising. Lower startup costs. Faster ramp-up. Smaller teams. Easier territory expansion. It also changes who can become an owner. You no longer need to be a restaurant veteran or retail operator. You need discipline, sales ability, and follow-through. That democratization is healthy. It expands ownership without lowering standards. Experiences are replacing things Another clear theme is experiential franchising. District Candle Lab. Artistic Edge Art Studio. The Linksman. Toodley Town. Urban Dog House. These brands sell memories, not inventory. They give customers something to do together. Something to post. Something to remember. Experiences drive repeat visits because they WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM | JANUARY 2026
11
satisfy social needs that screens cannot. For franchisees, they also create multiple revenue streams: events, memberships, private bookings. As automation increases elsewhere, human connection becomes more valuable, not less. HEALTH, WELLNESS, AND AIR YOU CANNOT SEE Health-focused franchises are evolving past gyms and supplements. IAQ Experts, ZeroMold, The Vital Stretch, Clean Colonic, Butterfly Home Care, Perfect Care Match. These brands operate at the intersection of wellness, prevention, and quality of life. They respond to growing awareness around indoor air, mobility, aging, and holistic care. What makes them franchiseable is structure. Clear protocols. Training. Technology. Standards that reduce risk while increasing trust. The entrepreneurs behind these systems are not chasing trends. They are responding to demographics and data. WHAT THIS MEANS FOR THE FUTURE OF FRANCHISING The next decade of franchising will not be defined by who can open the most locations the fastest. It will be defined by who can build systems that hold up under pressure. 12
JANUARY 2026 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
Pressure from labor shortages. Pressure from rising costs. Pressure from more informed consumers. Pressure from operators who demand transparency and support. The brands that win will share a few traits: They solve real problems. They respect the operator’s time. They are built for repeat revenue. They can scale without breaking culture. They treat customers with dignity. SubContain, CRS, and Resting Rainbow sit comfortably inside that future. So do many of the emerging brands reshaping fuel delivery, pet care, wellness, facilities, and mobile services. Franchising has always been about replication. Today, it is also about responsibility. The brave entrepreneurs building these systems are not just creating companies. They are creating standards for how services should feel, how businesses should run, and how communities should be served. That is not just growth. That is progress.

EMERGING BRANDS
Why Newer Brands Are Worth the Bet—and How to Make Them Thrive by Seth Lederman, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company
A
s economic uncertainty, AI disruption, and workforce instability continue to reshape how people think about career security, franchising remains one of the most resilient paths to business ownership. But in 2026, the conversation is shifting. Rather than chasing legacy franchise brands with high upfront costs and saturated markets, many entrepreneurs are turning their attention to emerging franchise concepts—younger systems designed for today’s economy.
18
"LIFE IS EITHER A DARING ADVENTURE OR NOTHING AT ALL." — Helen Keller These next-generation franchises are not just smaller versions of established brands. They are intentionally built for flexibility, speed to market, and owner involvement. For aspiring franchisees willing to do their homework, emerging franchises can offer outsized opportunity— if chosen and executed wisely.
JANUARY 2026 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
WHY EMERGING FRANCHISES ARE GAINING MOMENTUM Emerging franchises typically have fewer than 100 locations and are often led by founders who are still deeply involved in the business. That alone changes the experience for franchisees. Instead of navigating layers of corporate bureaucracy, owners often work directly with decisionmakers who are motivated to see every location succeed. In 2026, several macro trends are accelerating interest in these brands: • Lower cost of entry. Many
emerging franchises are designed with reduced overhead, lean staffing models, or mobile-first operations. This makes them more accessible to first-time owners, career switchers, and semiabsentee entrepreneurs. • Modern business models. Newer franchises are launching with cloudbased systems, data-driven marketing, automation tools, and AI-supported operations baked in from day one—rather than retrofitted later. • White space opportunity. Unlike mature brands that may already be oversaturated in key markets, emerging franchises often offer large, protected territories with room to grow. • Cultural alignment. Many newer franchise systems emphasize values such as work-life balance, local community impact, sustainability, or servicebased relationships— appealing to a new generation of owners who want more than just profits. WHY SOMEONE SHOULD CHOOSE AN EMERGING FRANCHISE Choosing an emerging franchise is not about avoiding risk—it’s about choosing the right kind of risk. Established franchises provide predictability, but often at the cost of high fees, limited flexibility, and intense competition from fellow franchisees. Emerging franchises, by contrast,
reward initiative. Early owners frequently have more influence over operational improvements, marketing strategies, and even future brand direction. There is also meaningful upside. Getting in early often means: • Lower franchise fees and royalty structures • Larger or multi-unit territory options • Stronger franchisee support as systems scale • The ability to build long-term equity as the brand grows For entrepreneurs who want to be builders—not just operators—emerging franchises can feel more like a partnership than a purchase. THE KEY RISKS—AND HOW TO EVALUATE THEM Not all emerging franchises are created equal. Success depends heavily on due diligence. Prospective owners should closely examine: • Leadership experience. Has the founding team successfully scaled businesses before? Passion matters, but operational discipline matters more. • Unit economics. Are the financial projections based on real-world performance or optimistic assumptions? Speak to existing franchisees and request validated data. • Support infrastructure. Even young brands should have documented systems, training programs, and marketing support in place. • Scalability. Does the business model work in multiple markets, or is it
overly dependent on local conditions? The goal is not to eliminate risk entirely—but to ensure the franchisor understands it and has a plan to manage it. HOW TO MAKE AN EMERGING FRANCHISE SUCCEED Choosing the right franchise is only half the equation. Execution is where success is truly determined. Here are the five steps that can help you succeed with an emerging franchise: 1. Be hands-on early. Emerging franchises reward owner involvement. The most successful early adopters are

19
deeply engaged during the first 12–24 months, helping refine systems and establish strong local operations. 2. Follow the system—then improve it. While newer franchises may evolve rapidly, discipline still matters. Owners who respect the core model while offering thoughtful feedback often become top performers and trusted voices within the system. 3. Build local relationships aggressively. Because brand awareness may still be developing, franchisees must become ambassadors. Community partnerships, local marketing, and reputation-building are critical in the early stages. 4. Invest in people. Staffing challenges affect every industry. Owners who prioritize training, culture, and retention gain a competitive advantage—especially in service-based franchises. 5. Think long-term. Emerging franchises may not deliver immediate exponential returns. Success comes from patience, consistency, and 20
alignment with the brand’s growth trajectory. A CLEAR PATH TO SUCCESS WITH OPTI-KLEER Optic-Kleer®, a leading auto glass repair, replacement, and recalibration brand since 1991, offers entrepreneurs a strong franchise opportunity backed by more than 200 global locations across five countries. Now expanding within the United States, the company provides a low-cost, high-profit, recession-resistant model built on a hub-and-spoke system that pairs a fixed retail shop with a mobile service van. Franchisees benefit from a clearly structured growth strategy that includes investment flexibility, owneroperator freedom, cuttingedge technology and tools, turnkey packages, certified training, marketing support, direct insurance billing, and a dedicated operations manager. Financial requirements include a $59,900 franchise fee, additional populationbased fees for hub-and-spoke operations, a 5% discount

for military members and first responders, and recommended liquid capital of $100,000. Total initial investment ranges from $194,000 to $428,000, averaging around $300,000. The business model highlights strong revenue potential, with mobile auto-glass services averaging $218,000 in annual sales and the highest performers reaching $437,000 at roughly 65% profit margins. Fixed locations average $403,000 annually for a one-bay shop, with threebay shops recommended for optimal performance. OpticKleer® emphasizes strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and franchisees as the foundation of its longstanding success. In 2026, emerging franchise businesses represent one of the most compelling paths to entrepreneurship—not despite uncertainty, but because of it. These brands are designed for today’s realities: flexible operations, modern technology, and owners who want control over their future. For those willing to do the work—careful selection, active ownership, and disciplined execution—emerging franchises offer something increasingly rare: the chance to grow alongside a brand, rather than simply buying into one. Two Guys, No Truck LLC was established in 2015 with innovation in mind, upon identifying and addressing several flaws within the moving industry. With our unique and intuitive business model, we have been able to completely transform the blueprint for residential and commercial moving. The moving industry is changing and we are the reason why! Consumers are realizing that they can have all of their relocation needs handled for a fraction of the cost. With the increasing demand for box truck rentals and the rapid growth of portable storage containers, our moving labor service fills the missing link.

EMERGING BRANDS
Where the Next Franchises Are Being Built by Alex Neonakis, Writer
I
am 18, a high school student, and I read about franchises the way other kids read about sports or entertainers. Not the legacy brands everyone can name, but the new ones that are being built right now, by founders who are still figuring it out in public. What stands out is not the logos or the pitch decks. It is the nerve. Starting a franchise brand is a special kind of courage because you are not just opening one location. You are choosing to teach other people how to replicate what you are building, while you are still building it. You are writing the playbook while the game is live. You are promising that your system will work in places you have never been, with owners you have not met yet, serving customers you have not talked to. That is risk, but it is also a vote of confidence in the future. And that is why the most interesting new franchise brands are not only selling products or services. They are trying to solve real problems that sit in plain sight every day: trash that piles up, homes that get damaged, and a power grid that is shifting under our feet. Three emerging brands show what this looks like when it
24
is done with ambition and discipline: SubContain, CRS, and 4EverCharge. SUBCONTAIN: MAKING WASTE LESS WASTEFUL Waste management does not sound exciting, and maybe that is the point. A lot of the best business ideas are hiding inside “boring” industries that still have huge inefficiencies. SubContain is a modern take on a simple problem: trash takes up too much space, looks bad, smells bad, and costs too much to haul. Any restaurant owner, property
JANUARY 2026 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
manager, or shopping center knows the pain. Overflow. Mess. Complaints. Extra pickups. Lost time. What makes SubContain interesting as a franchise is that it is not selling a trendy consumer product. It is selling a cleaner workflow for businesses and municipalities. When you improve how trash is stored, you improve cleanliness, labor, and pickup efficiency. That is not just “nice to have.” It is money back in a business’s pocket and fewer headaches for everyone nearby.
If you are a franchisee, you are not waiting around for foot traffic. You are building a book of commercial accounts, location by location. That teaches a deeper lesson: the future is being built by entrepreneurs who chase hard problems, not easy applause. CRS: RESTORING NORMAL LIFE AFTER THE WORST DAY CRS is in the restoration world. That means water damage, mold remediation, fire cleanup, and the unglamorous work that starts when something goes wrong at home or at work. I have learned that restoration is not only a service category. It is an emotional category. People call restoration companies on days they want to forget. Their house is flooded. Their business is shut down. They are overwhelmed and do not know what to do first. A strong restoration brand does two things at once: it fixes buildings and it lowers stress. The systems matter. Fast response times. Clear checklists. Documentation. Insurance coordination. A calm voice that says, “Here is the next step.” As a franchise concept, CRS represents something bigger than growth. It represents stability. The franchisee is not just buying a job. They are buying a proven way to show up in a crisis, with standards that protect the customer and protect the operator from chaos. That is how brave entrepreneurship looks in real life. Not hype. Execution.
A: POWER AS AN EVERYDAY SERVICE The electric vehicle shift is real, but the infrastructure is still catching up. People want convenient charging where they live, work, and shop. Property owners want new revenue and better tenant retention. Cities want less pollution and smarter planning. 4EverCharge is built around that gap. Charging is not a gadget anymore. It is becoming a utility-like service, and that creates room for franchise operators who can handle site partnerships, installation coordination, and ongoing service. What I find compelling is the second-order impact. When charging becomes normal, it changes how neighborhoods develop, how businesses attract customers, and how families plan daily routines. A charger is not just a machine. It is an access point to mobility. Franchising works here because local relationships matter. The owner who understands the community, knows the property managers, and can move fast will win. A strong franchise system can standardize what needs to be standardized, while still letting operators be local and responsive. WHAT THESE BRANDS SAY ABOUT THE FUTURE SubContain, CRS, and 4EverCharge are not trying to copy the last generation of franchising. They are pushing into categories where the demand is obvious, the pain is real, and the execution is hard.
That last part matters. Hard categories create a filter. They require discipline, training, and real operations. That is good. It weeds out the people who only want a shiny concept and keeps the people who want to build. I am young, so I do not pretend to know everything. But I do know what it feels like to look at the world and see problems that adults have accepted as normal. Trash overflow is normal. Flooded homes are normal. Not enough charging is normal. Entrepreneurs refuse to treat those problems as permanent. They treat them as opportunities to design a better standard, then they recruit other owners to scale that standard across the country. That is what new franchise brands can do at their best. They turn a good operator into a great operator. They take lessons learned in one market and share them in fifty. They give first-time business owners a chance to build wealth with structure, support, and a clear model. The future is not created by big speeches. It is created by the founders who do the unglamorous work, and by the franchisees who take the risk to bring that work to their hometowns. If that is not brave, I do not know what is. EMERGING BRANDS This is a new breed of business owner. They don’t leap blindly into the abyss of startup risk. Instead, they build a bridge. They keep their day jobs, leveraging their salary and benefits as a safety net, while dedicating their evenings and weekends to building a scalable asset. And for many, the vehicle of choice isn't a tech startup; it’s a franchise.
THE 5-TO-9 ENTREPRENEUR:
How to Engineer Your Escape from Corporate America by Jewan "Jack" Tiwari, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company
Y
ou don’t have to quit your job to start your empire. In fact, the smartest entrepreneurs use their 9-to-5 paycheck to fund their 5-to-9 exit strategy. We are living in the era of the "Side Hustle," but let’s be honest: driving for Uber or selling crafts on Etsy is rarely 28
a path to generational wealth. For the corporate professional— the director, the VP, the skilled engineer—the goal isn't just extra pocket money. The goal is replacement income. The goal is freedom. Enter the 5-to-9 Entrepreneur.
JANUARY 2026 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
THE MYTH OF THE "ALL-IN" FOUNDER Silicon Valley mythology tells us that true entrepreneurs sleep under their desks and eat ramen noodles. But in the real world, risk mitigation is a superpower. Franchising is uniquely suited for the 5-to-9 model because it solves the biggest hurdle for part-time founders: the system. When you buy a franchise, you aren't inventing the wheel after a long day at the office. You are buying a blueprint. The marketing, the operations manual, the technology stack—it’s all there. This allows you to focus your limited hours on what matters: execution and management. You aren't the technician fixing the toilet; you are the executive hiring the General Manager. This is known as the "Semi-Absentee" model, and it’s the secret weapon of the corporate defector. FINDING YOUR "FREEDOM NUMBER" The most dangerous thing you can do is start this journey without a destination. Before you sign a franchise agreement, you need to calculate your Freedom Number.
Most people think this number is simply their current salary. It’s not. Your Freedom Number is the specific monthly net profit your business must generate to make leaving your job a mathematical certainty, not an emotional gamble. The Formula: $$Freedom\ Number = (Monthly\ Personal\ Expenses \ times 1.2) + Health\ Insurance\ Costs$$ • Personal Expenses: Mortgage, food, tuition, cars. • The 1.2 Multiplier: A 20% buffer for the unexpected. • Health Insurance: The golden handcuffs of corporate life. You must account for replacing this benefit out-of-pocket. Once your franchise’s recurring net profit hits this number for three consecutive months, you have the "Green Light." You aren't quitting your job; you are simply firing your employer because they are no longer your primary source of security. THE "MANAGER-RUN" ADVANTAGE How do you run a business while working 40+ hours a week? You don’t. You manage the person who runs it. The 5-to-9 Entrepreneur invests in a General Manager (GM) from Day One. Yes, this eats into early profits. But remember, the goal is not immediate cash flow; the goal is asset building. Your corporate salary pays your mortgage; your franchise revenue pays your GM and reinvests in growth. Your schedule shifts: • 9 AM – 5 PM: You are the corporate employee.
• 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM: You review the daily KPI dashboard (sales, labor costs, customer feedback) on your phone. • Saturday Morning: You meet with your GM for a strategy session and site visit. You become a master of time blocking. You trade Netflix for P&L statements. You trade Sunday brunch for marketing planning. It is a season of sacrifice, but it is a sacrifice with a deadline. CHOOSING THE RIGHT VEHICLE Not every franchise fits this model. You can’t run a complex, high-touch restaurant as a side hustle. You need a simple, scalable, and manager-driven business. Look for these traits: • Recurring Revenue: Membership models (fitness, massage, cleaning) provide predictable cash flow.1 • B2B Services: Commercial cleaning or property services often operate during hours that don’t conflict with your day job.2 • Low Employee Headcount:
Automated concepts like vending, laundromats, or salon suites minimize HR headaches. THE PLUNGE There is a specific feeling 5-to-9 Entrepreneurs describe when they finally hit their Freedom Number. It isn't just relief; it’s power. You walk into your Monday morning meeting not because you have to, but because you choose to. And eventually, you choose not to. The 5-to-9 shift is not about working two jobs forever. It is about working harder than anyone else for two years, so you can have the freedom that everyone else dreams of for the rest of your life. The bridge is built. It’s time to cross it. Why A Complete Mobile Drug Testing Franchise Is a Wise Investment by Michael Stavrinakis, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company
A
s businesses face increasing regulatory pressure and workforce safety requirements, mobile drug and alcohol testing has emerged as an essential service—and a highly attractive investment opportunity. A Complete Mobile Drug Testing Franchise combines low startup costs, strong national demand, and exceptional earning potential, making it one of the most compelling franchise models available today.
LOW COST OF ENTRY — JUST $72,000 ALL IN With a total investment of approximately $72,000 all in, this franchise offers an unusually low barrier to entry compared to traditional brickand-mortar or healthcarebased f ranchises. There are no leases, no build-outs, and no costly equipment overhead. Owners can launch quickly and preserve capital while building a scalable, cashefficient business.
HIGH AVERAGE ACCOUNT VALUES (AAVS) Unlike many service f ranchises that rely on high volume and low margins, mobile drug testing benefits f rom high AAVs driven by repeat testing requirements, regulatory compliance, and long-term contracts. National and regional clients often require ongoing, scheduled testing—creating predictable, recurring revenue streams. PROVEN EARNING POWER According to the 2025 Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) Earnings, mature franchise locations have demonstrated: • Up to $960,000 in annual revenue • $300,000+ in net profit These results reflect strong margins, low operating expenses, and the efficiency of a mobile, on-demand model— where revenue grows without a corresponding increase in overhead. MOBILE MODEL = HIGHER MARGINS Because services are delivered directly to client locations, franchise owners avoid the fixed costs

that erode profitability in traditional testing centers. The mobile model reduces overhead, increases efficiency, and allows owners to serve multiple clients in a single day—significantly boosting margins. NO MANDATORY EMPLOYEES One of the most appealing aspects of this franchise is that employees are not mandatory. Owners can operate independently, leverage certified independent collectors, or scale staffing as demand grows. This flexibility keeps payroll costs low and eliminates the operational headaches common in employee-heavy businesses. NATIONAL ACCOUNTS FUEL SCALABLE GROWTH Franchisees benefit from large national account relationships, providing immediate access to enterprise-level clients without having to build everything from scratch. These accounts often generate cons istent, high-volume testing needs, accelerating revenue and reducing reliance on local prospecting. A RECESSION-RESISTANT INDUSTRY Drug and alcohol testing is not discretionary—it’s required. Industries such as transportation, construction, manufacturing, healthcare, and staffing must comply with federal, state, and insurance mandates regardless of economic conditions. This makes mobile drug testing a stable, recession-resistant business.
WITH A TOTAL INVESTMENT OF APPROXIMATELY $72,000 ALL IN, THIS FRANCHISE OFFERS AN UNUSUALLY LOW BARRIER TO ENTRY COMPARED TO TRADITIONAL BRICK-ANDMORTAR OR HEALTHCAREBASED FRANCHISES. THE BOTTOM LINE With a low $72K investment, high AAVs, nearly $1M revenue potential, and $300K+ net profit performance, a Complete Mobile Drug Testing Franchise offers a rare combination of affordability, scalability, and proven financial upside. Add in national account support, a mobile model, and no mandatory employees—and it becomes clear why this franchise stands out as a smart, strategic investment. Siding with Success: Why Ideal Siding Is the Quiet Juggernaut of 2026 by Joe Carter, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company
M
ost emerging brands are still chasing proof of concept. Ideal Siding? They’ve already built it. With over 60 locations across North America, a $60B addressable market, and a franchise model designed for operators—not contractors— Ideal Siding is quietly becoming one of the smartest home service investments on the map. And it’s not hype. I sat down with founder and CEO Alex Filipuk on The Franchise
Growth Show to unpack exactly how he’s scaling a blue-collar business with white-collar systems. His approach is precise, datadriven, and focused on profitability from day one. A MARKET RIPE FOR DISRUPTION Siding may not sound sexy— but it’s massive. The North American siding market is valued at over $60 billion and growing at 4% annually. The global market is projected to reach $132 billion by 2029. That growth is fueled by aging housing stock, rising property values, and a new generation of homeowners who want to renovate, not relocate. The average job size? Over $20,000. And Ideal Siding has positioned itself as the premium, reliable brand homeowners are turning to— especially in markets where quality crews are scarce and professionalism is even rarer. THE FRANCHISE MODEL THAT FLIPS THE SCRIPT What makes Ideal Siding stand out is the simplicity— and strength—of its model: • Home-based: No office, no
36
JANUARY 2026 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
warehouse, no overhead bloat • Call center support: Appointments are booked for you from day one • Marketing handled inhouse: SEO, PPC, local branding, all covered • Crew recruiting systems: Franchisees are taught how to find and lead top talent • Protected territories: Over 300 prime markets still available You don’t need a background in construction. In fact, many of their top franchisees came from sales, tech, or corporate management. This brand was built for people who want to lead a team, drive revenue, and grow a real business with real margins. DESIGNED FOR FAST LAUNCH AND LONG-TERM VALUE Alex didn’t scale by chance. He built Ideal Siding from the lessons of 15 successful siding companies, then baked those best practices into every system. Franchisees are supported with: • Quick-start onboarding (first jobs land within the first week)
• Structured field training • Custom CRM and project tracking tools • Ongoing coaching, territory protection, and a playbook that actually works It’s rare to see a brand with this level of operational maturity still open to new franchisees. That’s what makes Ideal Siding such a compelling 2026 play. WHO THIS OPPORTUNITY IS FOR Let me be clear—this isn’t for hobbyists. Ideal Siding is perfect for leaders who want to build something from the ground up, but with less risk and more infrastructure than starting solo. Ideal candidates tend to have: • A background in sales, management, or client service • A heart for people and
operational excellence • Financial stability and longterm thinking • The grit to scale without shortcuts If that’s you, this is a brand that could unlock serious equity over the next 3–5 years. WHY I BROUGHT ALEX FILIPUK ON MY PODCAST Alex impressed me. He’s not chasing vanity metrics or hyping empty scale. He’s building methodically, investing in his franchisees, and proving that home services can be sophisticated, profitable, and built to last. In our interview, we got into: • How Ideal Siding broke into new markets • How their team controls brand quality without slowing down • What he looks for in ideal operators • And why this brand is still “emerging” on paper—but a juggernaut in practice Most founders think
franchising is about logos, leads, and luck. The truth? It’s about systems, support, and strategy. Ideal Siding delivers all three. If you’re looking for a real business in a proven market with low overhead and high margins, this might be the smartest f ranchise opportunity of the year. No gimmicks. Just growth. EMERGING BRANDS
Why Emerging Franchise Brands Deserve Serious Consideration by Dave Sullivan, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company
A
fter more than three decades in business and over 15 years working directly with franchise buyers, one of the most common assumptions I encounter is that “bigger is always safer” when it comes to franchising. While established brands certainly offer advantages, they are not always the best strategic fit for every investor. In fact, some of the most compelling franchise success stories begin not with household names—but with wellpositioned emerging brands. Emerging franchise systems— typically defined as brands with a smaller but growing footprint—can offer distinct advantages when evaluated properly. For prospective franchise owners willing to conduct thorough due diligence and think strategically, these brands can represent a powerful opportunity. LOWER COST OF ENTRY AND IMPROVED UNIT ECONOMICS One of the most attractive features of emerging franchise brands is their lower initial investment. Established franchises often carry premium franchise fees, higher build-out requirements, and ongoing royalties that reflect decades
40
of brand development. Emerging brands, by contrast, are still in expansion mode and are often structured to attract early adopters. Lower entry costs can result in: • Reduced upfront financial risk • Quicker paths to break-even
JANUARY 2026 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
• Stronger cash-on-cash returns in the early years For many investors, especially first-time business owners or professionals transitioning from corporate careers, these economics create a more accessible and manageable ownership experience.
TERRITORY ACCESS AND FIRST-MOVER ADVANTAGE Territory availability is another major differentiator. In mature franchise systems, desirable territories are often long gone or highly f ragmented. Emerging brands typically offer larger, more strategic territories, allowing franchisees to establish themselves as the dominant provider in their market. This first-mover advantage enables owners to: • Build brand recognition before competitors enter • Secure long-term customer relationships • Shape market perception from the outset As the brand grows regionally or nationally, early franchisees often benefit from increased consumer awareness without sacrificing territory control.
As systems mature, early franchisees often emerge as multi-unit operators, advisory council members, or brand ambassadors.
A COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE FRANCHISOR In emerging franchise systems, franchisees are not just operators, they are often key partners in the brand’s development. Early owners typically have greater access to founders and leadership teams and can provide direct feedback on systems, marketing, and operational improvements. This level of collaboration can be especially appealing to experienced executives or entrepreneurs who value: • Open communication with leadership • Faster system refinement • A sense of ownership beyond their individual unit
BUILDING EQUITY, NOT JUST INCOME While established franchises often emphasize stability and predictability, emerging brands frequently offer greater equity-building potential. As systems scale, territories become more valuable, and resale multiples may increase accordingly. For investors focused on longterm wealth creation—not just near-term income, this equity growth can be a significant part of the overall return.
GROWTH MOMENTUM AND LONG-TERM UPSIDE Emerging franchises are, by definition, in growth mode. As new locations open and marketing efforts expand, early franchisees often benefit from rising brand recognition and increasing demand over time. This growth phase can enhance: • Revenue potential as awareness builds • Overall unit valuation • Exit opportunities as the brand gains traction Many franchises that are now household names once depended on early franchisees who recognized their potential before the broader market did.
UNDERSTANDING AND MANAGING THE RISKS Emerging franchises are not without risk. Systems may still be evolving, and brand recognition may be limited
early on. However, these risks can be mitigated through disciplined due diligence, including: • Careful review of the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) • Evaluation of leadership experience and infrastructure • Conversations with existing franchisees • Realistic capital planning When aligned with the right owner profile and properly vetted, emerging brands can present a balanced and compelling risk-reward proposition. Emerging franchise brands are not for everyone—but for the right investor, they can offer advantages that established brands no longer can. Lower entry costs, greater influence, stronger territory positions, and meaningful long-term upside make them worthy of serious consideration. As with any franchise investment, success depends on alignment—between the brand, the business model, and the individual owner. With the right guidance and a thoughtful evaluation process, an emerging franchise can represent not just a business opportunity, but a strategic investment in the future. Aumbio Wellness Turns AI Job Loss into Opportunity by Robyn Deering, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company

mid ongoing corporate restructuring accelerated by AI adoption outsourcing, Aumbio Wellness offers a new career path that integrates whitecollar worker’s skills with AI rather than competing with it. U.S. employers have announced over 1.17 million job cuts through November 2025 with tech and professional services sectors particularly affected (Challenger Gray & Christmas 2025). resilience against automation threats, Aumbio Wellness offers a compelling path to entrepreneurship allowing individuals to leverage their corporate skills to build recession-resistant businesses centered on pet and human connection, tech-driven holistic care and community impact in the booming wellness industry. The wellness industry has evolved into a major economic force. The global wellness economy reached $6.8 trillion in 2024 and is forecast to approach $10 trillion by 2029 according to the Global

Wellness Institute (Global Wellness Institute 2025). In the United States wellness spending has surpassed $2 trillion in recent years reflecting strong consumer commitment to preventive health and well-being. The pet care sector adds another layer of growth valued at over $250 billion globally in 2024 (Statista 2025) as pet owners increasingly prioritize holistic options for their animal companions. In this thriving environment
Aumbio Wellness distinguishes itself by merging ancient principles with modern technology. Entrepreneurs seeking a meaningful purpose-aligned business that capitalizes on these trends will find Aumbio provides an innovative way to address an underserved need in the market. A PROVEN APPROACH TO BIOFIELD THERAPY Founded in 1988 and recently becoming a franchise opportunity, Aumbio Wellness has positively impacted over 60,000 lives with its distinctive biofield therapy approach. This non-invasive method supported by decades of international research employs proprietary technology to identify energy imbalances and provide customized wellness protocols. Aumbio's unique dual focus on humans and pets delivers safe tailored therapies that demand no physical exertion from clients. The Aumbio Wellness client experience emphasizes sustainable results. It starts with a thorough initial assessment where practitioners attentively explore each client's (human or pet) individual wellness needs. An AI-enhanced biofeedback scan follows pinpointing subtle energy disturbances. A personalized Bio Field Therapy plan ensues—typically four focused sessions to reestablish harmony. Regular monthly check-ins support long-term maintenance. Clients often describe transformative outcomes: shifting from fatigue
persistent discomfort and frustration to renewed energy eased pain and greater control over their health. These therapies integrate seamlessly with conventional medicine— without diagnosing or treating conditions—appealing to those seeking transparent side-effect-free holistic support. All equipment holds low-risk FDA classification. DISTINCTIVE POSITIONING AND ACCESSIBLE INVESTMENT Aumbio Wellness stands out in the wellness landscape through clear differentiation. Unlike assisted-stretching models or infrared sauna concepts, Aumbio Wellness avoids reliance on physical effort or session-based memberships. It also bypasses the need for medical credentials distinguishing it from nutrient infusion centers. Aumbio's investment range in the low six-figures offers an approachable entry for owners embracing tech-supported holistic care. The model is streamlined and well-supported. Franchisees benefit from intensive headquarters training and regular field support. Exclusive territories covering and competitive fees—enable focus on community. Operations stay streamlined: a center manager in-house, trained wellness operators and optional administrative help. Aumbio's proven corporate sites highlight steady expansion and strong operational margins in recent years. It’s educational outcome-focused method
promotes organic loyalty and word-of-mouth growth. AN OPPORTUNITY FOR MEANINGFUL ENTREPRENEURSHIP Many professionals transitioning from corporate roles seeking out stability and fulfillment will appreciate opportunities with Aumbio Wellness to scale with multiple territories while enjoying the intrinsic values laden in the franchise’s community. The brand represents a calling to foster havens of renewal and optimism. In an era where individuals and their pets crave safe proactive alternatives to traditional care Aumbio Wellness equips owners to deliver real lasting change. Opportunity is ripe. With pet humanization surging and demand rising for personalized technology-integrated experiences, Aumbio Wellness is primed to spearhead the emerging holistic franchise wave. This endures beyond fads—grounded in established protocols optimized for accessibility and effectiveness. It also is a viable strategy for diversifying investments for those weighing options with 401k funds to consider when leaving the workforce abruptly. Entrepreneurs vetting franchise options and drawn to a brand that fuses innovation, empathy and growth potential should consider Aumbio seriously. It offers a chance to align enterprise with profound impact: nurturing community one restored energy field at a time. For those prepared to leave corporate uncertainty for rewarding ownership Aumbio

Ultimate Longevity Center: Investing at the Intersection of Health, Performance, and Prevention by Steve Sparks, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company
A
s economic uncertainty continues to shape investor behavior, one trend remains clear: health and wellness spending does not disappear during downturns—it evolves. Consumers may cut back on luxury purchases, but they continue to invest in solutions that help them feel better, perform better, and live longer. Sitting squarely at the center of this shift is the emerging longevity sector, and few concepts are as wellpositioned within this space as Ultimate Longevity Center. Backed by Sequel Brands and industry veteran Anthony Geisler, and powered by Lifeforce—co-founded by Tony Robbins alongside renowned longevity expert Gary Brecka—Ultimate Longevity Center introduces an entirely new category of franchise opportunity. By seamlessly integrating fitness, recovery, diagnostics, and preventative health under one roof, the concept offers a compelling model for franchise investors seeking a differentiated, recession-resistant business with long-term relevance.
50
INTEGRATED ECOSYSTEM. RATHER THAN OFFERING A SINGLE SERVICE OR MODALITY, THE BRAND BRINGS TOGETHER FITNESS, RECOVERY, DIAGNOSTICS, AND OPTIMIZATION INTO ONE COHESIVE EXPERIENCE. THE RISE OF THE LONGEVITY ECONOMY The global longevity market is estimated to exceed $8 trillion, driven by aging demographics, rising healthcare costs, and a growing consumer desire to proactively manage health rather than react to illness. People are no longer waiting until something
JANUARY 2026 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
breaks to seek care. Instead, they are embracing preventative diagnostics, recovery modalities, metabolic optimization, and performance-based wellness. This shift is not cyclical—it is structural. As life expectancy increases and chronic disease becomes more prevalent, longevity-focused services are moving from “niceto-have” to “must-have.” Ultimate Longevity Center is purpose-built to capitalize on this macro trend, offering a comprehensive, consumerfriendly approach to preventative health. A COMPREHENSIVE, ALL-IN-ONE MODEL What differentiates Ultimate Longevity Center from traditional gyms, med spas, or wellness clinics is its integrated ecosystem. Rather than offering a single service or modality, the brand brings together fitness, recovery, diagnostics, and optimization into one cohesive experience. Members can access services such as performance-based training, advanced recovery therapies, metabolic and
biomarker testing, red light therapy, cold exposure, and other evidence-based longevity tools—all within a single location. This creates both convenience for the consumer and multiple revenue streams for the franchisee. From a business perspective, this diversification is critical. Multiple services mean multiple points of entry for members, higher lifetime customer value, and reduced reliance on any single revenue source. In uncertain economic times, diversification is one of the strongest defenses a business can have. BUILT ON CREDIBILITY AND BRAND POWER Franchise success is often determined by trust, and
Ultimate Longevity Center benefits from exceptional brand credibility. Sequel Brands, led by Anthony Geisler, has a proven track record of scaling premium fitness and wellness concepts. The brand is further strengthened by its association with Lifeforce, a leader in longevity medicine, and the involvement of globally recognized figures Tony Robbins and Gary Brecka. This level of backing matters. It shortens the education curve for consumers, enhances marketing effectiveness, and positions franchisees as part of a nationally recognized movement rather than a local startup. In a category where trust and expertise are paramount, Ultimate Longevity Center enters the market with a significant advantage.
A RECESSION-RESISTANT CONSUMER PROFILE While discretionary spending often declines during economic slowdowns, healthfocused spending tends to remain resilient—particularly among affluent and healthconscious consumers. Ultimate Longevity Center is designed to attract this demographic: individuals who prioritize performance, energy, mental clarity, and long-term health outcomes. These consumers view wellness not as an expense, but as an investment. They are less price-sensitive, more committed to recurring memberships, and more likely to engage in ongoing services. This creates predictable, recurring revenue for franchise owners and supports longterm unit stability. Additionally, the membership-based model provides consistency in cash flow, which is especially valuable during periods of economic volatility. OPERATIONAL SIMPLICITY WITH SCALABLE POTENTIAL Despite its sophisticated offerings, Ultimate Longevity Center is designed with operational scalability in mind. Franchisees are not required to be medical professionals, as the model emphasizes systems, training, and centralized support. Proprietary protocols, standardized equipment, and ongoing education allow owners to focus on leadership, growth, and member experience rather than day-today clinical decision-making.
WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM | JANUARY 2026
51
As the brand grows, franchisees may also benefit from opportunities to expand into multi-unit ownership, making this an attractive option for investors looking to build a platform rather than a single-location business. POSITIONED FOR THE FUTURE OF HEALTHCARE Perhaps the most compelling aspect of Ultimate Longevity Center is its alignment with the future of healthcare itself. Traditional systems are overwhelmed, reactive, and expensive. Consumers are actively seeking alternatives that emphasize prevention, optimization, and personal accountability. Ultimate Longevity Center does not compete with
52
hospitals or primary care— it complements them. By focusing on early detection, lifestyle optimization, and performance, the brand fills a growing gap between fitness and medicine. That positioning gives it staying power well beyond current trends. A TIMELY FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY In a crowded franchise marketplace, truly differentiated concepts are rare. Ultimate Longevity Center stands out not only for what it offers today, but for what it represents tomorrow. It sits at the intersection of fitness, wellness, technology, and preventative care—four industries that continue to grow regardless of economic conditions.
JANUARY 2026 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
For franchise investors seeking a recession-resistant opportunity with strong brand backing, diversified revenue streams, and relevance in a rapidly evolving health landscape, Ultimate Longevity Center offers a compelling case. t 51, Taylor Williams is embarking on a new chapter one that blends decades of creative experience with the stability of a business built to serve his local community. Last fall, Williams officially launched his Floor Coverings International® of Van Nuys serving Van Nuys, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Encino, Tarzana, North Hollywood and Valley Village, bringing a design-forward, customerfocused flooring experience to neighborhoods he knows well. Williams’ career path is anything but conventional. For 15 years, he worked as an independent film producer, managing projects from development through completion in an industry known for its creativity—and its volatility. Before stepping into producing, he honed his visual sensibilities as a set decorator, collaborating on commercials, music videos, events and short films alongside accomplished production designers and directors. Those years on set sharpened his eye for design and taught him how environments influence mood, storytelling, and functionality. Producing independent films further strengthened Williams’ business acumen.
JANUARY 2026 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
He learned how to build and manage budgets, solve problems creatively under pressure, and lead diverse teams toward a shared vision. Coordinating cast, crew and departments required diplomacy, organization, and the ability to keep everyone moving in the same direction—skills that translate naturally to running a servicebased business. Despite enjoying many successes, Williams began to feel the strain of an industry undergoing rapid change. The pandemic, labor strikes and shifting distribution models altered the economics of filmmaking, driving up costs and making projects increasingly difficult to sustain. What had once been an exciting, if unpredictable, career began to feel unstable. As he approached 50, Williams knew he wanted a change— one rooted in a permanent consumer need and capable of long-term growth. That search led him to Floor
Coverings International. The franchise model offered the best of both worlds: the independence of small business ownership paired with a proven structure, training, and nationwide brand recognition. It also allowed Williams to leverage his design background in a tangible, everyday way— helping homeowners and business owners make confident choices about the spaces they live and work in. Opening his business has been both a learning experience and a family affair. Williams received support from Floor Coverings International not only in understanding the flooring industry, but also in the fundamentals of launching and operating a local business. He’s starting modestly, with his kids pitching in—helping paint the office and canvas neighborhoods with door hangers. For Williams, that firsthand involvement matters. He’s building something he hopes his children can be part of now and potentially take over one day. Based in Van Nuys and living in nearby Studio City, he’s proud to serve the community where he grew up and still resides. His territory spans much of the San Fernando Valley, all within the city and county of Los Angeles. Looking ahead, Williams is energized by innovation within the flooring industry. While he has a personal appreciation for solid wood and cork, he’s excited by the evolution of luxury

vinyl plank and engineered wood products that offer similar aesthetics with improved durability and easier installation. He’s also intrigued by the creative potential of modern carpet— from turf and tufted styles to bound area rugs—made more versatile by advances in stain and sun resistance. For Taylor Williams, this career shift isn’t about leaving creativity behind—it’s about applying it in a new, more sustainable way. and problem-solving into a business designed to grow with his community for years to come. Trash Is Being Reinvented. The United States Is Next. by Ian Paradis, President, SubContain
F
or most of modern history, trash collection has been treated as a fixed system. Bins behind buildings. Trucks on routes. Complaints accepted as inevitable. Odors, pests, overflow, fires, injuries, and inefficiency were considered part of the cost of doing business and running cities. That assumption is now breaking. Across North America, waste is no longer a background issue. It is a public safety issue. A cost issue. A sustainability issue. And increasingly, a political issue for cities and municipalities under pressure to do more with less while delivering cleaner, safer environments.
At SubContain, we are seeing this shift firsthand. Over the past two months alone, we have sold more than 40 units across municipal, commercial, and multi-unit property markets. Demand is accelerating not because of marketing hype, but because the traditional model of waste collection no longer works at scale. Trash is changing. And fast. WHY THE OLD MODEL IS FAILING Above-ground dumpsters were designed for a simpler time. Lower population
density. Lower consumption. Fewer regulations. Less scrutiny. Today, they create real problems. They overflow during peak periods. They attract rodents, insects, and birds. They generate odors that impact nearby residents and customers. They create slip hazards, fire risks, and access issues for sanitation workers. They are frequently damaged or vandalized. And they are visually intrusive in areas that cities and property owners are working hard to improve. From an operational standpoint, the inefficiencies are staggering. Trucks are dispatched on fixed schedules whether containers are full or nearly empty. Labor and fuel costs continue to rise. Emissions increase. And municipalities are left managing resident complaints instead of improving service. The system is reactive, not smart. And it is expensive. A PROVEN ALTERNATIVE, HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT What makes the current moment so interesting is that the solution is not new. It is proven. It simply has not been widely adopted in the United States yet. SubContain systems have been installed for more than 30 years, with over 270,000

units deployed globally across Europe, Canada, Asia, and the Middle East. These systems are not experimental. They are not prototypes. They are long-term infrastructure solutions that have performed in some of the world’s most demanding urban environments. And importantly, they have not failed. The reason is straightforward. By placing most of the waste underground, you remove exposure to heat, pests, weather, and human interference. You dramatically increase capacity without increasing surface footprint. You reduce collection frequency. You improve hygiene. You improve safety. And you improve how communities look and feel. Above ground, only a clean, sealed column is visible. Below ground, a large-capacity container holds several times the volume of a traditional dumpster.
This is not a marginal improvement. It is a structural change. RAPID GROWTH SIGNALS A MARKET READY TO MOVE At SubContain, our recent growth reflects a market that is finally ready to rethink waste. Over the past two months, more than 40 units have been sold into a mix of municipalities, multi-unit residential properties, and commercial sites. These customers are not early adopters chasing novelty. They are operators solving real problems. Rising hauling costs. Chronic overflow. Resident complaints. Public health concerns. Sustainability targets that cannot be met with outdated infrastructure. Once decision-makers see the system, the logic is immediate. Fewer collections. Lower long-term operating costs. Cleaner sites. Safer conditions for workers and
residents. And infrastructure that lasts for decades, not years. This is why adoption accelerates quickly once the first installation is complete. MUNICIPALITIES ARE AT THE CENTER OF THE SHIFT Cities are where the impact is most visible. Municipal leaders are under pressure to improve cleanliness while controlling budgets. They face labor shortages, aging sanitation fleets, and growing waste volumes driven by population growth and consumption patterns. At the same time, residents expect higher standards of cleanliness and safety. SubContain offers municipalities a way to reset the equation. By reducing collection frequency, cities can optimize routes and redeploy labor more efficiently. By

eliminating overflow and exposed waste, they reduce complaints, pests, and cleanup costs. By installing durable, underground systems, they invest in infrastructure that aligns with long-term planning rather than shortterm fixes. For downtown cores, parks, transit hubs, and highdensity neighborhoods, the improvement is immediate and visible. This is why we are actively inviting municipalities across the United States to engage with SubContain now. The technology is ready. The track record is proven. The need is clear. NATIONAL ACCOUNTS ARE ALREADY ON BOARD The same logic applies to national and multi-location operators. In Canada and internationally, SubContain systems are already in use by major quick-service restaurant brands and multiunit operators, including McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A, 62
Dunkin’ Donuts, and many others. These companies understand that waste management directly affects brand perception, customer experience, and operating costs. Major accounts have been reaching out asking when? Overflowing dumpsters behind restaurants are not just an inconvenience. They are a reputational risk. They invite pests. They create odors. They generate complaints from neighbors and municipalities. SubContain systems address these issues while reducing service frequency and improving site cleanliness. For national accounts, the value lies in consistency, durability, and scalability. One system. One standard. Deployed across hundreds or thousands of locations. The same applies to multiunit residential properties, mixed-use developments, campuses, and any environment where solid municipal waste is generated at scale. BUILT FOR THE LONG TERM One of the most important aspects of SubContain is durability. These systems are engineered to last decades. With over 30 years of realworld use and hundreds of thousands of installations globally, the data is clear. This is not disposable infrastructure. It is foundational. For cities and operators thinking in 10-, 20-, and 30year horizons, that matters. It changes procurement
JANUARY 2026 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
conversations from short-term cost to long-term value. It also aligns with sustainability goals. Fewer truck trips mean lower emissions. Better containment means cleaner environments. Longer lifespan means less material waste over time. THE MOMENT FOR THE UNITED STATES For years, the United States lagged behind other regions in adopting underground waste systems. Not because the technology was unproven, but because the urgency was not yet felt. That has changed. Rising costs, labor constraints, public pressure, and sustainability mandates are converging. The old model is no longer adequate. And incremental fixes are no longer enough. The time is now. SubContain is expanding rapidly across the U.S. because cities, developers, and national brands are ready to move beyond dumpsters. They are ready for infrastructure that reflects modern expectations of cleanliness, safety, and efficiency. Trash may never be glamorous. But how we handle it says a great deal about how we run our cities and businesses. At SubContain, we believe waste infrastructure should work quietly, efficiently, and reliably in the background. When it does, communities are cleaner, safer, and better places to live and work. And that is a change worth making.

How BullBag Is Reinventing Waste Collection, One Job Site and Catastrophe at a Time by Kyle Bailey, CEO, GenDev
M
ost innovation in waste collection does not make headlines. It happens on job sites, behind warehouses, after storms, and in places where speed and flexibility matter more than polish. That is exactly where BullBag has built its business. BullBag was founded by Paul DiSpazio, a builder at heart who spent years working around construction sites, demolition projects, and cleanup operations. He
66
saw the same problem over and over. Traditional metal dumpsters are expensive, slow to deploy, restrictive in placement, and inefficient when jobs are temporary or space is limited. For many contractors and municipalities, they were the only option available, even when they made little sense. BullBag was built to change that. At its core, BullBag is a heavy-duty, flexible dumpster system designed for
JANUARY 2026 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
environments where debris volume is high, access is tight, and speed matters. These bags can be placed almost anywhere. Dirt, concrete, roofing material, storm debris, demolition waste, and bulk trash can be loaded quickly without worrying about clearance, surface damage, or long-term placement restrictions. When the job is done, the bag is removed, replaced, or folded away. That flexibility is what makes BullBag different.
On a construction site, a metal dumpster often becomes a bottleneck. It requires delivery by a specialized truck, permits in some areas, and enough space to maneuver heavy equipment. BullBag eliminates most of that friction. Contractors can place multiple bags exactly where work is happening instead of hauling debris across the site. That saves labor, time, and money. It also improves safety by reducing unnecessary movement of materials. The same advantages apply to remodeling projects, roofing jobs, interior demolitions, and urban construction where space is limited. BullBag can be staged in alleys, inside fenced areas, or on uneven ground where metal dumpsters are not practical. When filled, the bag is lifted out using standard equipment and replaced immediately. Where BullBag truly stands apart, however, is in disaster response. After hurricanes, floods, fires, or major storms, speed and scale matter more than anything. Cleanup crews need to move fast, cover wide areas, and adapt to constantly changing conditions. Metal
dumpsters are slow to deploy and limited in number. BullBag is not. Hundreds of BullBags can be transported in the back of a pickup truck or staged in advance for emergency response. Crews can drop them wherever debris accumulates, fill them quickly, and move on. There is no waiting for container delivery and no need to block streets or driveways. That efficiency is critical when entire neighborhoods need to be cleared in days, not weeks. Paul DiSpazio understood early on that waste collection is not just about hauling trash. It is about logistics, timing, and flexibility. BullBag’s patented design reflects years of real-world experience, not theory. These bags are engineered to handle serious weight, harsh conditions, and repeated use. They are not disposable shortcuts. They are professional tools. That practicality is also why BullBag is proving to be a recession-resistant business. Construction, renovation, infrastructure repair, and disaster cleanup do not stop during economic downturns. In many cases, they increase. Municipalities still need to clear debris. Insurance claims still need to be addressed. Property owners still need damaged structures removed. BullBag sits directly in the path of essential work that must be done regardless of economic cycles. From a business standpoint, the model is simple and scalable. Operators can serve contractors, municipalities, restoration companies, and
emergency response teams without massive capital investment. Inventory is portable. Deployment is fast. Labor requirements are reasonable. That combination makes BullBag attractive not only as a product, but as a business platform. At GenDev, we spend our time working with founders who have built something real, not trendy. Paul DiSpazio fits that mold. He did not set out to create a flashy brand. He set out to solve a problem that people working in the field deal with every day. The result is a better dumpster solution that works where others fail. BullBag is not trying to replace every metal dumpster. It does not need to. It exists to serve the situations where flexibility, speed, and placement matter most. Construction sites. Tight urban environments. Temporary projects. Emergency cleanup. Those needs are not going away. BullBag is changing how waste gets handled in the places that matter most. And in an industry that values results over hype, that is exactly how lasting companies are built.

Recession-Resistant Career Paths:
“Home Services” are Booming by Ron Filian, f ranchise development consultant
A
re you tired of corporate restructuring, market volatility, and the constant threat of job cuts? Many professionals are currently looking for a way to secure their future and build lasting wealth. The answer for many is found not in a volatile stock market or an uncertain tech sector, but right in their local communities, through the reliable world of essential home services, specifically by investing in emerging franchise brands. This isn't just about painting houses or mowing lawns; it's about a foundational business
model that thrives regardless of broader economic shifts. The home services sector offers a compelling path to a secure, recession-resistant business, and investing in emerging franchise opportunities now allows entrepreneurs to capture market share and secure their career as a franchise business owner. THE UNWAVERING DEMAND FOR HOME MAINTENANCE The core strength of the home services industry lies in its necessity. People may cut back on luxury vacations or new cars during an economic downturn, but essential home
repairs, maintenance, and improvements rarely stop. The U.S. Census Bureau indicates strong sustained demand for services as homeowners prioritize maintaining their biggest asset. With around 40% of U.S. homes being more than 50 years old, an aging housing stock creates a steady stream of demand for maintenance and repairs. Furthermore, current data indicates a strong trend in consumer prioritization of home investments. With more people working from home and aging in place, the demand for functional, safe, and pleasant living environments has solidified, ensuring consistent business for franchisees. THE POWER OF RECURRING REVENUE AND THE FRANCHISE ADVANTAGE One of the most attractive features for savvy investors is the potential for recurring revenue models. Many modern home services have moved beyond one-off jobs. Businesses are now offering subscription-based lawn care, scheduled cleaning services, quarterly pest control, and annual maintenance contracts.

A Blueprint for Growth: Yellow Spruce Roasters Targets Expansion
Y
ellow Spruce Roasters is a specialty coffee company built on a commitment to exceptional service and highquality, globally sourced coffee. Founded by military and law-enforcement retirees, the company reflects its owners’ deep passion for coffee, continued dedication to community, and a “service before self” ethos. Originally planned as a wholesale roasting venture in 2019, Yellow Spruce pivoted during the COVID-19 pandemic and opened its first storefront in Scottsdale, Arizona, in September 2020. The founder’s background fostered a disciplined, systems-driven approach to operations that strengthened the company’s ability to thrive despite challenging circumstances. Brian

Fernandez, a United States Air Force retiree and Penn State graduate who had a 20-year career with the City of Phoenix Police Department, has a lifelong dedication to serving others. His commitment to community and unwavering sense of duty made it impossible for him to step away from a life of service, ultimately inspiring the founding and ongoing mission of Yellow Spruce Roasters. This dedication translated into a company built on principles of integrity, discipline, and care, where every decision reflects a desire to positively impact both employees and customers. Their values— quality, precision in product development, and unwavering service to the community— became the backbone of the brand. At the heart of Yellow Spruce Roasters is a deep love and compassion for building a team of employees—an expanded family—which shapes every aspect of customer service. Continued community and dedicated service recognition was further highlighted by the Scottsdale Progress newspaper, which featured the company in an article titled “Old Town coffee shop committed to community.” The piece detailed Yellow Spruce Roasters’ early efforts to serve the neighborhood, emphasizing not only its highquality coffee but also its role as a welcoming gathering place where customers and community connections

Ask the RESULTS Guy : The Art of Connection ™
by Tony Jeary, The RESULTS Guy™
F
ranchise success isn’t just about systems or support. It’s about relationships. The most aligned, highestperforming franchise organizations all have one thing in common: they’ve mastered The Art of Connection. Whether you’re a franchisor leading a network or a franchisee building your local presence, your ability to connect drives everything. It impacts brand consistency, team culture, customer experience, and long-term growth. Connection is the multiplier. Q: Tony, what does connection really mean in franchising? Connection means people respond when you reach out. It means franchisees feel heard, customers feel seen, and your team feels valued.
In practical terms, it means clarity, trust, and followthrough. Franchisors who stay connected to their field outperform. Franchisees who build true community with their customers create loyalty. And both sides grow faster when communication is clear and consistent. It starts with three simple actions: recognize, appreciate, and thank. If you build that into your daily rhythm, relationships deepen, trust grows, and alignment becomes easier. Q: What separates great connectors from everyone else? Intentionality. Most people reach out when they want something. Great connectors show up consistently, even when there is no ask. That’s why
one of our core philosophies is called “Favors In Advance.” Give value without being asked. Help others win before you need anything in return. Franchisors who operate with this mindset build field trust that pays off in execution. Franchisees who do this locally build reputations that drive referrals. Q: How does someone build a meaningful network inside a franchise system? Start by curating a list of your People of Influence (POI). These are not just people with titles. They are the people whose alignment makes everything else easier. Maybe it's a top-performing franchisee you want to

CONNECTION IS NOT FLUFF. IT’S FUEL. ONE WELL-TIMED INTRODUCTION CAN LEAD TO A MAJOR DEAL. ONE THOUGHTFUL NOTE CAN RE-ENERGIZE A DISENGAGED TEAM. ONE STRATEGIC CHECK-IN CAN PREVENT A COSTLY MISALIGNMENT. model. Maybe it’s a vendor who could take your operations to the next level. Maybe it’s someone on your team who just needs to be empowered. Each week, reach out to five people with something valuable. A message of encouragement. A strategic introduction. A shared insight. Personally, I’m a huge fan of strategic gifting. These rhythms
create relevance and keep your relationships alive. Q: This sounds like a lot. How do you keep it all organized? You systematize it. Use tools like a contact tracker or CRM. Tag your contacts by relevance. Set reminders for follow-up. Automate what you can but never at the expense of personalization. Block time on your calendar every week. Monday: review your key contacts. Wednesday: send outreach. Friday: drop something of value. Five minutes a day beats a quarterly push every time.
Q: What does this look like when done well? Here’s what happens. Your team feels more engaged, your franchisees feel more supported, and your brand reputation strengthens. Customers notice. Partners notice. Growth accelerates. Connection is not fluff. It’s fuel. One well-timed introduction can lead to a major deal. One thoughtful note can re-energize a disengaged team. One strategic check-in can prevent a costly misalignment. SO ASK YOURSELF: • Who do I need to reconnect with this week? • Where can I give value without being asked? • What system will help me stay intentional? Don’t just collect contacts. Build connection equity. That’s how results scale. That’s how reputations grow. That’s how great franchises win. Let’s make it happen.

Surf’s Up, A Chef’s Inspiration
Denise Roy, Eric Roy’s better half ‘s story! by Denise Roy, Chef Surfs, Up
S
urfs Up has great news in store for 2026! We are rebranding and will launch a new website starting January 1, 2026. We have also built our infrastructure to include a board of directors, a fractional CFO and investment capital. This article about Eric Roy’s better half ran earlier in 2025: I was raised by my grandmother who was a great cook. I spent countless hours helping her prepare meals for our home churches and a daycare center. Early on in our marriage Eric encouraged

me to go to culinary school because he felt as though l had a niche for cooking. Eric's job often had him out of town business trips and one notable trip to Florida we were really impressed with their seafood restaurants and got to thinking this is something Chicago is missing. We started talking of the possibility of opening our own seafood restaurant similar to the ones in Florida. We then begin thinking of items we wanted on the menu. I wanted something unique and decided the star of our show would be fried lobster. Back in 2012 fried lobster crab legs and grilled seafood wasn't something that was served locally in Chicago. l often say we started a trend when creating our menu. Our fried green tomatoes and fried biscuits have been featured on news outlets and many television shows. We caught the attention of Fox 32 News, Chicago’s Best, Food on the Run and Signature on WGN. As well as bring a chef I'm also a hair stylist, being in the service business I'd say I'm very good a marketing for my two businesses. As a stylist l already have a loyal
clientele which in turn turns into my restaurant customers and some franchise owners. The very first day Surf's Up opened January 20, 2012, one of the worst blizzards ever but our little restaurant was packed and busy the entire day. It was frightening and exciting all at the same time. Facebook hadn't been out long but as l look back our post advertising our business must have gone viral because we were swamped the entire weekend despite the weather. We learned the power of social media marketing back in 2012. The timing was right, the feeds of our customers must not have been cluttered. My advice for people thinking of opening a restaurant. Have reserve of funds, anything can happen in this business a few slow weeks can seem like the end.
So, the reserve is needed. Know your demographic and choose high foot traffic areas. Never stop advertising and posting. Stay current go to trade shows subscribe to trade magazines. Do everything to stay relevant in the minds of your customers. If possible, seek mentors that you can trust and have restaurant experience. Mentors can be of great help. Eric and l plan to expand our brand across the country to more arenas (including an additional one inside Soldier Field), all the major airports and hopefully some area deals from Multiple unit owners. When we got the contract for Soldier Field, we knew our hard work was paying off. The great thing about Soldier Field is our concept and offerings are so unique compared to the average stadium food. Our fried shrimp made with our own proprietary seasonings has garnered us many new Surf's Up customers. Our hot markets are Nashville, Dallas, Houston, Austin, Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Alabama, Las Vegas, Detroit, Cincinnati, and the state of New Jersey. Currently, we are working on a prototype stand-alone store with a drive thru. This format will be available in 2025. We also will have our breading’s on grocery store shelves. Yes, soon you'll be able to dive into that Surf's Up flavor right in your own home. Surfs Up, Southern inspired seafood coming to your neighborhood! We are ready to relaunch and produce great
franchisees in 2026. Eric Roy Jr., who has lived in the Windy City all his life, founded Surf's Up 12 years ago when he was a corporate tax auditor for the state of Florida, living in Chicago and traveling to Tallahassee for work. "I adored Gulf shrimp in Florida, and there was nothing like it in Chicago," he said. "My wife, Denise, is a chef, and we took some ideas from the restaurants we loved in Florida and brought them back to Chicago. This inspired us to open our first Surf's Up location in 2012."

Savvy Couple Brings Marketing Expertise to Their Emerging Home Inspection Business by Rhonda Sanderson, CEO, Sanderson & Associates

ick and Joan Cerami are experiencing a growing presence in Southwest Florida as owners of Pillar To Post Home Inspectors – the Cerami Team, marking the next chapter in a professional journey that has spanned four decades and two industries. After more than 30 years each in marketing and advertising—often working in tandem as client and agency partner, the couple now share business ownership in the hot home inspection industry. Their team serves Naples, Fort Myers, and their hometown of Ave Maria, FL. For the Ceramis, the shift wasn’t spontaneous. A memorable personal experience years earlier during the purchase of their first home, planted the idea that home inspection could someday offer a fulfilling, service-driven second career. The inspector they hired at the time—with his balance of expertise, confidence, and approachability—left an << Nick and Joan Cerami franchisees of Pillar To Post Home Inspectors of Southwest Florida

impression on Nick. With a family background in construction and a shared desire to build something together, the path to Pillar To Post felt natural. Nick and Joan often encourage would-be entrepreneurs to view franchising through a strategic lens. For them, the value lay in Pillar To Post’s robust infrastructure— technology, IT management, web presence, and security, and bundled services— areas that would have been costly or impractical to build independently. They believe that a franchise should fill the gaps a small business cannot easily cover, not simply replicate what an owner can already do on their own. Today, the Cerami Team blends their decades of communication and clientservice expertise with the technical rigor of certified home inspection. Joan, who retired after 40 years in advertising, including 32 years at her last company— manages operations and marketing, while Nick leads the inspection teams. Additional focus is placed on growing their Florida-based franchise and using the latest tools and technologies to support realtors and

A year after moving to Florida full time, the couple have immersed themselves in their community—not only through their business but also through giving back. The Cerami Team recently sponsored a Toy Drive as part of the annual Toys for Tots Christmas Drive with another local business. Their involvement reflects a desire to stay rooted in service, gratitude, and connection with the families they now support both professionally and philanthropically.
“Sponsoring a toy drive for Toys for Tots helps us engage in positive causes we are focused on, especially locally,” said Nick Cerami. “It felt great to do and we met more of our local business neighbors.” Looking ahead, the Ceramis are energized by the rapid advancements in home inspection technology and the opportunity to continue elevating the client experience. The Snowy Churro: A Sweet Concept Rising Fast in the Dessert Franchise World by Sean Boyer, The Snowy Churro, Founder
W
hen The Snowy Churro first rolled onto the scene, it didn’t arrive with corporate fanfare or a sprawling footprint. It emerged the way many great food brands do: from a spark of inspiration and a desire to bring people a little joy. What began as a single mobile dessert operation serving handcrafted churros and cool, creamy treats at local events quickly transformed into a crowd favorite, with lines curling like cinnamon-sugar trails across festival grounds. Sean Boyer, the brand’s founder, recognized a truth that now drives the entire concept forward: people crave experiences as much as they crave flavor. The Snowy Churro fused both from day one. Warm, golden churros dusted in signature sugars, decadent-filled churros, churro
94
boats layered with toppings, and combo cups pairing crispy churros with velvety ice cream were designed to be indulgent, memorable, and visually irresistible. It didn’t take long for the brand to become a staple at community gatherings, school events, weddings, and corporate celebrations. This steady rise wasn’t fueled by gimmicks. It was built on a simple, powerful idea: delight people consistently, and they’ll follow your truck anywhere. A MENU BUILT FOR MODERN TASTES Today’s consumers want desserts that feel familiar yet new. The Snowy Churro strikes that balance by offering classic churros elevated with inventive coatings like cocoa, graham cracker, peachmango, and crushed sprinkles, alongside filled churros, edible cookie dough, sundaes, floats, and other indulgent treats. The variety invites exploration without overwhelming operators. The menu is bold yet streamlined, designed for efficiency, speed, and high repeat traffic. For franchise prospects, that balance matters. A strong dessert concept must deliver
JANUARY 2026 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
originality without sacrificing simplicity, and The Snowy Churro has built its menu with that dual focus in mind. PROVEN IN THE REAL WORLD BEFORE SCALING What makes this brand especially compelling for investors is its origin story. The Snowy Churro was pressuretested long before it became available as a franchise opportunity. Operating as a mobile catering concept allowed the brand to refine systems in demanding, high-volume environments where consistency, speed, and guest experience are nonnegotiable. Festivals, seasonal events, private parties, and corporate functions became a proving ground. Through this real-world incubator, the brand validated its menu across diverse audiences, demonstrated its ability to generate excitement and repeat business, built a recognizable identity, and confirmed its strength in flexible, nontraditional settings. For investors, that history translates into reduced risk and a more precise roadmap for scaling.
MULTIPLE REVENUE STREAMS, ONE ADAPTABLE MODEL The Snowy Churro operates at the intersection of consumer craving and operational agility. Franchisees can pursue a mobile model, a fixed-location model, or a hybrid model that blends daily sales with eventbased revenue. This flexibility allows operators to tailor the business to their market while tapping into multiple income streams, including everyday consumer purchases, private and corporate catering, weddings and parties, seasonal events, festivals, and destination venues. This adaptable structure supports year-round revenue while keeping overhead manageable. In a landscape where many concepts are tied to expensive real estate or rigid formats, The Snowy Churro stands apart by meeting franchisees where demand is strongest. A BRAND DESIGNED FOR BUZZ AND LONGEVITY Visually, The Snowy Churro is built for today’s attention economy. Its desserts are colorful, bold, and cameraready, making them naturally suited to social sharing
and organic discovery. Beyond aesthetics, the brand carries genuine warmth. Its mountaininspired identity evokes adventure, indulgence, and a touch of whimsy, creating a cohesive story that guests remember long after the last bite. That combination of visual appeal and emotional connection gives franchisees a competitive edge in a crowded dessert market. WHY FRANCHISE PROSPECTS SHOULD PAY ATTENTION Many emerging franchises offer flash without substance or solid operations without excitement. The Snowy Churro occupies a rare middle ground where passion, proven processes, and strong consumer appeal align. Demand for specialty desserts continues to grow, and this concept is engineered for repeat visits, premium pricing, and accessibility for new operators. Its multiple revenue channels, flexible formats, and brand identity built for modern marketing create an opportunity with both momentum and durability. The Snowy Churro is more
than just another dessert brand. It’s a gathering point for families, eventgoers, and flavor seekers, drawn to a simple, joyful experience. For the right franchise partners, it represents a chance to join a sweet story that is only beginning its next chapter. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Sean Boyer is the founder of The Snowy Churro, a fast-growing dessert brand built on the idea that great food should create memorable, joy-filled experiences. He launched the concept as a mobile operation and refined it in real-world, high-volume environments, developing a visually striking, operationally efficient brand that blends nostalgic flavor with modern appeal. Today, Sean leads The Snowy Churro’s expansion with a handson, disciplined approach focused on scalability, franchisee success, and preserving the quality and personality that made the brand stand out.

The Petite Pup Difference: Small Dogs. Big Opportunity by Kathleen Kocsis, Founder / CEO, Petite Pup
P
etite Pup was built with clear intentions from the size of the dogs we serve to the simplicity of our business model. In an industry often defined by complexity, high build-out costs, risk, and burnout, Petite Pup is different. We focus exclusively on caring for the smallest dog breeds as we specialize in dogs under 15 pounds. Our dog daycare was created for a safer, calmer, and more upscale dog daycare experience that attracts loyal, high-end clientele. For those interested in a pet care business that stands out for its clear focus, operational simplicity, and thoughtful approach to ownership, Petite Pup offers a welcoming and dependable
98
path to long-term success. By narrowing our scope, we have created a business that is easier to operate, easier to staff, and easier to scale, while still benefiting from strong demand within the evergrowing pet care market. Small breed dogs represent a rapidly expanding segment of pet ownership, particularly in urban and suburban communities. Currently there are no other daycare brands designed exclusively for small dog breeds under 15 pounds in the franchise market. Petite Pup fills this gap by offering a daycare environment tailored entirely to these teeny tiny dogs. By specializing in dogs under 15 pounds,
JANUARY 2026 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
we significantly reduce the safety risks that often exist in mixed-size play environments. Smaller dogs play differently, require specialized handling, and thrive in spaces designed just for them. We truly are the small dog specialists, this allows us to consistently deliver a premium experience that pet parents trust and return to time and time again. This clear differentiation has positioned Petite Pup as the premier small dog daycare brand. Our clients value safety, cleanliness, and
personalized care, and they are willing to invest in a service that prioritizes their tiny dog’s well-being. For franchise owners, this results in strong customer loyalty, predictable attendance, and a brand that establishes credibility quickly in new markets. One of the most attractive aspects of Petite Pup is the clarity of our business model. We intentionally focus on a single core service: small breed dog daycare. We do not offer grooming, retail, overnight boarding, training, or other ancillary services that add complexity, liability, and staffing challenges. This focused approach allows franchisees to operate in smaller spaces with fewer moving parts, lower startup costs, and clearer day-to-day operations. Because everything from facility design to staff training is centered on one service, owners can spend less time managing logistics and more time leading their teams and growing their business. The result is a
streamlined operation that is both approachable for firsttime franchise owners and appealing to experienced investors seeking efficiency and scalability. Petite Pup was also designed with sustainability and quality of life in mind. Unlike many pet care businesses that operate around the clock and are busiest during holidays, our locations are closed on Sundays and most holidays. Weekday and Saturday hours are structured to meet customer demand while still allowing owners and employees meaningful time off. This work life balance helps prevent burnout, supports long-term ownership, and fosters a healthier workplace culture. Hiring is another area where the Petite Pup model shines. Positions at our daycare locations tend to fill quickly, in part because the work environment is calm, structured, and obviously super fun too! Franchise owners tend to hire individuals who align with our Petite Pup core values and genuinely love dogs. By hiring for attitude and care rather than technical expertise alone, franchisees consistently build teams that are engaged, dependable, and committed to providing excellent service. Smaller dog playgroups and predictable routines also contribute to lower stress levels for staff, supporting stronger retention and operational consistency. Petite Pup has proven that a thoughtfully defined
niche, executed with care and intention, can create a highly desirable and sustainable business. As we expand through franchising, we invite investors to join a brand that values simplicity, safety, and long-term success. For those seeking a pet care franchise that offers strong differentiation, operational clarity, and a balanced approach to ownership, Petite Pup represents a rare and rewarding opportunity.

Rest Rainbow a Fast-Rising Franchise Brand by Joe Moncaleano
T
here are industries built on impulse. There are industries built on convenience. And then there are industries built on trust. Pet funeral and memorial care sits squarely in the last category, which is why RestingRainbow.com has become one of the most important — and fastestrising — franchise brands in the world today. Quietly, deliberately, and with uncommon discipline, Resting Rainbow has grown into the second-largest pet funeral and memorial business globally, with the number one position clearly in its sights. That trajectory is not driven by hype. It is driven by something far harder to scale: compassion, systems, and local ownership done right. THE MARKET NOBODY WANTED TO TALK ABOUT — UNTIL NOW For decades, pet aftercare lived in the shadows. Pets were loved deeply, but the moment of loss was often handled informally, inconsistently, or with little transparency. That gap between emotional importance and professional
106
care created both pain for families and fragmentation in the industry. Today, that gap is closing fast. More than 66% of U.S. households own at least one pet, representing nearly 90 million homes. Annual pet spending now exceeds $150 billion in the United States alone, and pet funeral and memorial services have emerged as a multi-billion-dollar global market, growing steadily year over year. Cremation rates for pets continue to rise, driven by urbanization, changing burial laws, and shifting cultural norms around memorialization. In simple terms: families want dignity, clarity, and respect when they say goodbye. Resting Rainbow exists because someone finally built a system to deliver exactly that. SCALING COMPASSION THROUGH FRANCHISING What makes Resting Rainbow different is not just what it does — private pet cremation, memorial services, urns, and keepsakes — but how it scales those services.
JANUARY 2026 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
Franchising is often misunderstood as a growth hack. In reality, franchising is a values decision. It says, “We believe local ownership, properly trained and properly supported, will care more than a distant corporation ever could.” Resting Rainbow made that choice early. Instead of centralizing grief, it localized care. Franchise owners are members of the communities they serve. They answer the phone. They meet families. They coordinate with veterinarians. They show up when it matters. At the same time, the brand provides the backbone: standardized operating procedures, modern equipment, transparent tracking, pricing clarity, and a professional experience
that protects families and franchisees alike. That balance — local heart with national standards — is how Resting Rainbow has scaled so quickly without losing its soul. FROM “SMALL CATEGORY” TO GLOBAL CONTENDER Calling Resting Rainbow the second-largest pet funeral and memorial business in the world is not marketing fluff. It reflects scale, geographic footprint, case volume, and brand reach across franchised territories. More importantly, the company is not slowing down. The roadmap is clear: expand territory coverage, deepen partnerships with veterinarians and pet retailers, build brand awareness at the national level, and continue recruiting franchise owners who align with the mission. The number one spot is not about ego. It is about setting the standard for how this industry should operate globally. When you become the reference point, you get to define ethics, transparency, and care. That is power — used responsibly. CHEWY: MEETING FAMILIES WHERE TRUST ALREADY EXISTS One of Resting Rainbow’s most strategic moves has been its partnership with Chewy.com, the largest and most trusted pet ecommerce platform in the United States. Chewy is where pet parents already go for food, medicine, toys, and support. By offering Resting Rainbow memorial
products — including urns and keepsakes — through Chewy’s platform, the brand extends its presence beyond the moment of loss. This matters for three reasons: First, it normalizes memorialization. Families can take their time. They can return when they are ready. Second, it reinforces legitimacy. Being featured alongside trusted pet brands signals quality and professionalism. Third, it bridges local service with national reach. The franchise handles the care. The marketplace handles scale. This is modern franchising done right — not competing with ecommerce, but integrating with it. FRANCHISEES AS GUARDIANS OF HUMANITY Here is the part that never shows up in spreadsheets. Resting Rainbow franchisees are not selling widgets. They are holding space for grief. They are teaching their children what empathy looks like in practice. They are showing their communities that business can be kind without being weak. In an era where automation and AI dominate headlines, this work remains deeply human. You cannot outsource compassion. You cannot automate presence. And yet, this is still a profitable business. That is the quiet brilliance of the model. By professionalizing pet aftercare — with clear pricing, efficient operations, and recurring relationships —
Resting Rainbow proves that doing good and doing well are not opposites. Profit here is not extracted from grief. It is earned through reliability, trust, and care done consistently. A BUSINESS WITH HEART, SOUL, AND DISCIPLINE Many companies talk about purpose. Few build systems that sustain it at scale. Resting Rainbow has done exactly that. Heart, in how families are treated. Soul, in how pets are honored. Discipline, in how the business is run. Those three elements rarely coexist. When they do, the result is not just growth — it is leadership. As the brand continues its climb toward the number one position globally, it is not just capturing market share. It is shaping expectations. It is redefining what pet families should demand and what franchise ownership can represent. This is franchising as a force for good. This is entrepreneurship with empathy. This is proof that you can build a serious, scalable, profitable company — and still bring out the best in humanity. Resting Rainbow is not just changing an industry. It is changing how we say goodbye.

The Business Beneath Our Feet by Rob Petka, Consultant, The Franchise Consulting Company

hy flooring remains one of the smartest franchise opportunities in America Some industries come and go. Others are permanent. Flooring falls squarely into the second category. Every home, office, store, hotel, hospital and warehouse has one thing in common: the floor matters. It gets walked on, worn down, damaged, redesigned and eventually replaced. That makes flooring one of the most durable and necessary categories in the built environment—and one of the most attractive opportunities for entrepreneurs looking for a stable, scalable business. The numbers back it up. The U.S. flooring industry generates tens of billions of dollars in annual revenue and continues
110
to grow as housing stock ages, renovation activity increases and commercial construction rebounds. Residential remodeling alone drives a massive portion of demand, as homeowners upgrade flooring for durability, aesthetics and resale value. Commercial projects add another layer of consistency, with offices, retail centers and hospitality properties requiring regular replacement cycles. This is not discretionary spending that disappears in uncertain times. Floors wear out. Water damages them. Trends change. Life happens. Flooring is replaced because it has to be. That’s exactly why franchising works so well in this category—and why Floor Crafters has emerged as a brand to watch.
JANUARY 2026 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
WHY FLOORING AND FRANCHISING ARE A NATURAL FIT Flooring is a local business by nature. Customers want to work with someone they trust, someone who shows up, communicates clearly and delivers quality installation. At the same time, the operational complexity of sourcing materials, managing crews, marketing effectively and pricing jobs correctly creates friction for independent operators. Franchising removes that friction. A strong franchise system gives local owners the benefit of proven processes, centralized marketing, supplier relationships and training—while still allowing them to operate in their own communities. In flooring, this combination is especially powerful. The economics are attractive. Flooring projects tend to have high average ticket sizes, whether residential or commercial. A single job can generate meaningful revenue, and repeat business is common as customers move, renovate or refer friends. Unlike purely retail concepts, flooring blends product sales with service, installation and project management, creating multiple points of margin. Just as important, many modern flooring franchises avoid the
communities it serves. In an era where some franchisors chase rapid growth at the expense of long-term health, Floor Crafters is taking a more disciplined path. Growth is intentional. Support is emphasized. The goal is not just unit count, but sustainable success. heavy overhead traditionally associated with showrooms. Mobile and in-home design models reduce fixed costs while improving the customer experience. The result is a leaner operation with strong upside.
kept reasonable, overhead is controlled and scalability is built into the model. In an industry where many operators struggle with inconsistency and thin margins, that structure matters.
FLOOR CRAFTERS: BUILT FOR TODAY’S ENTREPRENEUR Floor Crafters was designed around those realities. The brand combines a mobile showroom model with a structured franchise system that allows owners to focus on selling, managing projects and building local relationships—without carrying the burden of large retail spaces or reinventing operations from scratch. The company emphasizes training, support and systems that help franchisees compete against both independent installers and big-box retailers. From marketing and lead generation to estimating, installation standards and customer experience, Floor Crafters is engineered to be repeatable. What makes the brand particularly compelling is its balance. It is sophisticated enough to serve high-value customers and commercial clients, yet simple enough for franchisees to run efficiently. Startup costs are
A FOUNDER WITH A BIGGER VISION At the center of Floor Crafters is its founder and CEO, Shaun Bezuidenhout. With deep roots in construction and flooring, Shaun didn’t set out to build just another franchise. He set out to fix what wasn’t working in the industry. His approach is grounded in real-world experience. He understands the challenges contractors face, the frustrations customers feel and the operational gaps that cause businesses to stall. Floor Crafters was built to address those issues head-on through systems, accountability and culture. But Shaun’s vision extends beyond flooring itself. He speaks openly about using business as a force for good—creating opportunities for franchise owners, raising standards in the industry and building companies that treat people fairly. That mindset shows up in how the brand supports its franchisees and how it positions itself in the
A NECESSARY BUSINESS IN AN UNCERTAIN WORLD Economic cycles will always rise and fall. What doesn’t change is the need for flooring. Homes will continue to be built. Buildings will continue to age. Floors will continue to wear out. For entrepreneurs evaluating franchise opportunities, categories like flooring offer something rare: necessity combined with scale. When paired with a well-designed franchise system and thoughtful leadership, that necessity becomes a powerful engine for long-term value. Floor Crafters sits at that intersection. It operates in a massive, essential market. It leverages franchising where it makes sense. And it is guided by a founder focused on building something that lasts. In business, sometimes the smartest opportunities aren’t flashy. They’re foundational. And few things are more foundational than the floor beneath your feet. How One Family Saw a Franchise Millions of Companies Need
W
hen Mikka Krecak first heard the words “mobile drug testing,” she didn’t imagine a flashy tech startup or a social media pitch. She saw something that every community needs: safety, accountability, and services that protect people’s lives and livelihoods. Her sons, Peter and Stevi, saw the same thing — but from different angles. Peter looked at the numbers. Stevi looked at the future. And together, they saw a business that makes sense in good economies, bad economies, and every economy in between. That’s why the Krecaks chose Complete Mobile Drug Testing as their franchise vehicle — a low-cost, high-value business built on demand that never goes away. What they are building isn’t just a business. It’s infrastructure for safety, compliance, and community trust.
Globally, the employer and workplace drug testing sector is a multi-billiondollar industry. In 2024 it was estimated at more than $6.1 billion and is projected to reach over $9 billion by 2033, growing at about a 4.6 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR). In the U.S., a major segment of that market was estimated at $2.57 billion in 2024 and is expected to reach around $4 billion by 2033, expanding at roughly a 5.2 percent CAGR. Those numbers don’t even capture the larger drug screening market — which
A GROWING MARKET WITH REAL DEMAND This isn’t a fad or a niche corner of healthcare services. The drug testing industry — especially workplace and mobile testing — is a significant and expanding market. 114

includes broader testing for public health, rehabilitation, event safety, and clinical settings. Some projections put the global drug screening sector north of $14 billion in 2024 and forecast growth to more than $24 billion by 2034 at a 5 percent plus CAGR. Other research shows even faster expansion in specific testing segments,
with projected double-digit growth rates in certain regions and for certain technologies. What this means in plain terms is that drug testing is not only essential, it’s a growing necessity. WHY EMPLOYERS CAN’T IGNORE DRUG TESTING For most businesses, drug testing is about one thing: keeping the workplace safe and compliant. Consider the evidence: employers that implement drug testing programs can reduce workplace injury rates significantly. One industry source notes a 51 percent drop in injuries within two years of starting a formal testing program. That translates into lower insurance costs, fewer legal liabilities, and a better reputation with clients and regulators. Drug testing isn’t optional in many industries. Federal and state regulations require it in transportation, logistics, construction, manufacturing, and public safety roles. Failing to meet these rules can mean lost contracts, fines, and shutdowns. For health care providers, testing is part of credentialing. For schools and youth programs, it’s about protecting young lives. For events and festivals, it’s about public safety. And for corporations, it’s about trust — both with employees and with customers.
One national analysis found that 56 percent of U.S. employers use preemployment or random drug testing, collectively spending billions annually. So the demand isn’t theoretical. It’s constant, real, and measurable. CHANGING WORKFORCE TRENDS MAKE TESTING MORE IMPORTANT Drug use trends are shifting — and employers are watching. Data from major testing laboratories shows increases in positive test results across a range of industries, from finance to real estate.
Meanwhile, newer threats like fentanyl — a synthetic opioid many times more potent than heroin — are showing up more often in random workplace tests, especially in high-risk fields such as construction, mining, and transportation. That matters because fentanyl can be lethal in tiny amounts. If it’s in the workforce, employers need accurate, reliable testing to protect workers and mitigate liability. Even as some companies rethink policies around substances like cannabis, many still require thorough screening for safety and regulatory compliance. For safety-sensitive roles governed by federal rules, drug testing isn’t optional — it’s mandatory. That’s why the landscape is dynamic but stable: testing evolves, but the need stays strong. INDUSTRIES WHERE DRUG TESTING IS CRITICAL If you want to understand where mobile drug testing fits in the economy, look at these major sectors: Transportation and Logistics Truck drivers, pilots, railroad operators, and mass transit workers are subject to strict federal screening. One positive test can end a career and expose fleets to millions in penalties. Construction and Heavy Industry When heavy equipment and high-risk machinery are involved, impairment isn’t just a personal issue — it’s a public safety one. Testing is part of

every major site’s compliance plan. Healthcare and Social Services Hospitals, clinics, and care facilities need testing to meet credentialing requirements and protect vulnerable patients. Education and Youth Programs Policies often require drug and alcohol screening for staff working with children. Hospitality and Events Bars, music festivals, and venues with large crowds use screening for both staff and certain patrons to retain licenses and protect reputations. Manufacturing and Warehousing A mix of heavy machinery, fast production lines, and safety protocols means testing is standard. And that’s not even the whole list. MOBILE TESTING IS THE MARKET’S EDGE Here’s where the Krecaks’ insight becomes a real strategic advantage. Traditional drug testing requires a fixed location — a clinic, a lab, a facility. That limits reach, increases cost, and adds friction for busy employers. Mobile drug testing removes those barriers. The service comes to the employer, often at job sites or office parks, with trained professionals, fast results, and digital reporting. It’s convenience meeting necessity. Clients don’t have to pull 116
employees off site or manage logistics. They get compliance with minimal disruption. For franchise owners, that means a scalable model. You can start with one vehicle and one technician, then add routes, staff, and contracts as demand grows. It’s low cost, low overhead, and rooted in real economic fundamentals. THE FUTURE IS PREDICTABLE — AND PROFITABLE Markets that grow predictably are rare. Health care and compliance markets are two of them. As the global drug testing market continues to expand — with some projections extending into the late 2030s — early movers in mobile service delivery stand to capture outsized share. That’s not hype. That’s growth backed by regulation, real workplace risks, and clear demand drivers. When Mikka and her sons examined the business, they didn’t see a trend. They saw fundamentals: • A growing market with multi-billion-dollar projections.
JANUARY 2026 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
•
Regulatory drivers that employers have to meet. • Safety demands that companies must satisfy. • Operational models that lower cost and improve access. That’s the kind of foundation real businesses are built on. A BUSINESS ROOTED IN NEED, NOT SPECULATION Startups often chase trends. Smart franchise owners chase demand. The Krecak family chose Complete Mobile Drug Testing not because it sounded exciting, but because it solves a persistent problem: safer workplaces, compliant employers, and services that people pay for because they must. This business isn’t about luck. It’s about structure, clarity, and steady demand. It’s the kind of business that survives recessions, thrives in regulation, and grows as markets become more sophisticated. In other words: it’s exactly the kind of business a family with vision builds together and exactly the kind of franchise that savvy entrepreneurs look for.

When Disaster Strikes, What Really Matters Is What Can’t Be Replaced by Ashley Taylor, President, CRS
T
he restoration and remediation industry in the United States is enormous, yet it often operates quietly in the background until the moment it is needed most. Fires, floods, storms, and accidents do not announce themselves in advance. They arrive suddenly, leaving families and businesses facing loss, disruption, and uncertainty. In those moments, the focus is often on structures. Walls. Floors. Roofs. What can be rebuilt. What can be repaired. But the truth is simpler and more human. The most valuable things in a home are rarely the house itself. They are the belongings inside it. The photographs. The heirlooms. The children’s artwork. The keepsakes tied to memory and meaning. At CRS, that understanding shapes everything we do. A MASSIVE, GROWING MARKET HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT The U.S. restoration and remediation market is estimated at well over $200 billion annually, encompassing water damage restoration, fire and smoke remediation, mold remediation, storm response, and specialty services. It is a market driven not by trends, but by reality. Weather
120
events are increasing in frequency and severity. Aging infrastructure continues to fail. Urban density raises the stakes of every incident. Within that broader market, contents restoration remains one of the most critical and underappreciated segments. When a loss occurs, insurance claims often hinge on the fate of personal property. Contents can represent a substantial portion of a claim’s total value. Yet many restoration providers treat contents as an afterthought, subcontracting the work or defaulting to replacement rather than restoration. That gap is exactly where CRS operates, and why our services matter more today than ever before. WHY CONTENTS MATTER MORE THAN STRUCTURES Buildings can be rebuilt. Possessions cannot always be replaced. Insurance policies may reimburse financial value, but they cannot restore sentiment. A wedding album lost to smoke damage. A grandfather’s watch damaged by floodwater. A child’s first drawings destroyed in a fire. These losses leave emotional scars that no check can erase. CRS was built around
JANUARY 2026 | WWW.FRANCHISEJOURNAL.COM
a different premise: that contents restoration is not just about salvaging objects, but about preserving continuity in people’s lives. Our teams specialize in restoring personal property affected by fire, water, smoke, mold, and other disasters. From electronics and textiles to artwork and heirlooms, we focus on what matters most to the homeowner or business owner standing at the center of a loss. This human-centered approach has made CRS a trusted partner for insurance carriers, adjusters, and restoration professionals nationwide. BUILT ON RELATIONSHIPS WITH INSURANCE CARRIERS In the restoration industry, trust is currency. CRS has invested heavily in building and maintaining strong relationships with insurance companies across the country. These relationships are not transactional. They are based on performance, reliability, documentation, and
consistent outcomes. When an insurer recommends CRS, they are putting their reputation on the line. That trust is earned through disciplined processes, clear communication, and the ability to deliver under pressure. Our teams understand how to operate within the insurance ecosystem. We know how to document losses, justify restoration decisions, manage timelines, and support policyholders through a stressful process. That alignment reduces friction, shortens claim cycles, and improves outcomes for everyone involved. It is also one of the reasons CRS has been able to scale rapidly and responsibly. GROWTH THAT REFLECTS REAL DEMAND Over the past two years, CRS has sold more than 120 units, expanding our footprint across the United States. This growth is not speculative. It reflects sustained demand in a market that does not depend on consumer spending cycles or discretionary budgets. Disasters do not pause for economic downturns. Pipes still burst. Storms still hit. Fires still happen. And when they do, restoration services are not optional. That reality makes CRS fundamentally recession resistant. In uncertain economic periods, many industries contract. Restoration does not. In fact, insurance-driven
services often become more essential as homeowners and businesses rely on claims to recover from losses they cannot absorb themselves. CRS franchise partners benefit from this stability, operating in a market that is both resilient and essential. AI-PROOF BY DESIGN In an era where automation and artificial intelligence are reshaping industries, it is fair to ask which businesses are truly future-proof. CRS is one of them. While technology supports our operations, contents restoration is inherently hands-on, situational, and human. Each loss is unique. Each home has different belongings, conditions, and emotional contexts. Judgment, craftsmanship, and care cannot be automated away. AI can assist with scheduling, documentation, and logistics. It cannot replace the trust built with a homeowner standing in a damaged living room. It cannot replicate the decisionmaking required to restore a one-of-a-kind item. And it cannot provide reassurance in moments of crisis. CRS operates at the intersection of process and empathy. That combination is not only durable, it is irreplaceable. A BUSINESS THAT MAKES SENSE IN ANY CLIMATE For entrepreneurs evaluating opportunities, CRS offers something rare: alignment between economic logic and
human impact. The market is large and growing. The demand is non-cyclical. The service is essential. The barriers to entry are meaningful. And the work itself matters. Franchise partners are not selling a luxury or a convenience. They are providing relief, continuity, and restoration when people need it most. That clarity of purpose attracts the right kind of operators. People who want to build strong businesses while doing meaningful work in their communities. PRESERVING MORE THAN PROPERTY At its core, CRS is not about things. It is about people. It is about families trying to regain a sense of normalcy after loss. Businesses trying to reopen their doors. Individuals trying to hold on to memories that define who they are. When disaster strikes, CRS is there. Not just with equipment and processes, but with care and accountability. In a world that often moves too fast, this is a business built around presence. Around showing up when it matters most. That is why CRS continues to grow. That is why insurers trust us. And that is why our work will remain essential no matter what the economy or technology brings next. Some businesses chase trends. Others respond to reality. CRS does the latter.

he Vital Stretch delivers much more than a stretch — it delivers freedom. With its clinically derived assisted-stretching method developed by a chiropractor and physical-therapy veteran team, The Vital Stretch provides deep, targeted, one-on-one sessions that help clients loosen tight muscles, restore mobility and move with ease. Their boutique-style studios offer a relaxing, semi-private setting — think peaceful, spa-like ambiance rather than a bustling gym — designed for comfort and personal wellness. What truly raises the bar: guests undergo a 3D Mobility Screening “Vital Signs” video-tech. This lets Vital Stretch Practitioners precisely identify tight spots or mobility restrictions, and custom tailor the stretch accordingly. Progress can be tracked over time — so clients actually see improved range of motion, posture, and flexibility. t With their motto “Move Freely, Live Fully®”, The Vital Stretch doesn’t just promise wellness — it delivers a lifestyle upgrade. For franchisees, it’s a scalable, membership-driven model backed by clinical credibility, low staffing needs, and recurring revenue potential. If you’re seeking a business that mixes boutique wellness vibe, realworld results, and elevated self-care — The Vital Stretch is bending the rules.

istrict Candle Lab transforms candle-making into a creative, memory-making experience — inviting customers to hand-pour their own 100 % soy-wax candles in a beautifully curated, scent-driven studio. Guests select fragrances from a “scent wall,” blend and pour their wax under the guidance of a trained “candle-tender,” and walk out with a personalized candle in under an hour. Founded by a former NASA physicist-turned-entrepreneur, the brand emphasizes clean, cruelty-free products and hands-on creativity rather than mass production. With no heavy retail-store buildout, minimal inventory, and a strong experiential angle — think date nights, group outings, or gift-making sessions — District Candle Lab offers a unique, lifestyle-focused franchise opportunity. Whether customers come solo or with friends, they leave with more than a candle — they bring home a memory, a scent, and a story.
