February's edition begins with congratulating the FAU Geomatics Engineering program for receiving the 2024 NCEES Survey Education Award. Celebrations and Awards were showcased during a joint meeting of the Palm Beach and FAU Student Chapters. Richard Allen has contributed his Surveyors in Government article pertaining to Florida Statutes Chapter 177 and the impacted areas found in Chapter 177.073.
In addition, we have included a copy of the original document known as the "Swamp and Overflowed Lands." This was an act of Congress to reclaim the swamp lands within their states and was signed by President Theodore Roosevelt. FSMS would also like to pay tribute to Manuel G. Vera Sr. also known as "Manolo." He will sorely be missed amongst his family and friends, as well as the surveying community.
