Welcome to our Sale! We are honored to be hosting our 24th Annual Sugar Bars Legacy Sale in beautiful and historic Sheridan, Wyoming. Frontier Live Sale will be broadcasting our sale LIVE, again this year. We hope this will benefit all those that cannot attend the sale in person. Registration information will be listed in the catalog; along with a link on our website and Facebook page, for those wanting to bid online. We thank and welcome all our buyers, consigners, staff, and friends that have made our sale possible. The sale was established to preserve the bloodlines of the late American Quarter Horse stallion, Sugar Bars. As with tradition, the Sugar Bars Legacy Sale Association will be hosting the sale this year; and it includes an incredible variety of outstanding Sugar Bars bred horses- meeting the needs of those interested in halter, performance, ranch, recreation, or those looking to take home a well-bred broodmare. We do have one change for this year! Black Label Livestock- Curt Westland and Sammy Ryan will be serving as sale management this year. Black Label Livestock delivers elevated auction experiences for standout horses and livestock through honest representation, selective consignments, and serious buyer reach. They will be handling the clerking for the sale this year. SUNDAY, September 20th-SALE Day! The sale begins with the selection of the WILD CARD weanling; and will then proceed in catalog order! We have limited the number of weanlings and yearlings this year, so make sure you come early and be ready to bid. The lineup of riding horses includes young ones just started; to the well started performance prospect, the all-around ranch horse, finished- arena, trail, and family horses. A select group of Sugar Bars bred saddle horses will sell early among the weanlings/yearlings— we will announce lot numbers early on sale day! Our weekend of events will start off on SATURDAY, September 19th with the Yearling Halter Futurity and Ranch Horse Versatility Futurity for 2- & 3-Year old’s. All weanlings sold at the 2025 sale are eligible to compete in the Yearling Futurity. To compete in the ranch horse versatility your horse must have sold in 2023 or 2024 as a weanling or as a yearling in 2024 or 2025 through our sale (eligibility transfers with horse). TERMS & CONDITIONS: Terms of sale are cash, personal check, cashier’s check (U.S. Funds), credit cards (with 4.5% convenience fee added). In addition to cost of horse, brand inspection fee & health inspection fee for each horse purchased. Each animal sells to the highest bidder with auctioneer settling bidding disputes. Registration paper and transfer will be given to the buyer at the sale- if ALL information is complete on the transfer- including the sellers’, the horses’, the sale and the buyer’s information. All incomplete transfers will be held along with the registration paper, until the secretary is contacted with the complete buyer information. Any consignors that do not have registration papers back from AQHA need to mail them to SBLS Secretary, and then they will be sent onto the buyer, along with the transfer. Announced catalog changes on sale day take precedence over this printed book. Horses will sell in catalog order unless otherwise specified. A Wyoming Veterinarian and Wyoming State Brand Inspector will be at the sale to assist buyers. ALL horses sell with a negative Coggins test and current health papers. We strongly encourage buyers to carefully inspect the horses before bidding. There are no further guarantees unless specified by seller. All horses are buyer’s property as soon as sold; and buyer assumes all liability & expense. No delivery is available until final settlement on all purchases. Buyers must arrange for care of horses at their own risk until delivery of horse(s); all horses must be removed from the fairgrounds by Monday following the sale. Consignors will provide a Halter and lead rope for each horse sold. SBLS or its members, Black Label Livestock and Sheridan County Fairgrounds assume no liability for defects in the quality, soundness, or condition of the horses–WHATSOEVER. Continuing with our legacy; the first horse sold in the sale will be a “Wildcard.” The winning bidder for the “wildcard” lot will have his/her choice of any weanling on the sale. With no colt in the ring, the auctioneer will ask for bids on the “wildcard.” It will be auctioned in the same manner as every other weanling in the sale, apart from the fact that, no one will know until the bidding is over and the winning bidder chooses his/her weanling, which horse has been sold. That weanling must be claimed immediately on winning the bid – and then will be removed from catalog order. The sale will resume with the remainder of the consigned weanlings in catalog order.

“Clarke” is a dearly beloved gelding who would happily identify as a people-pleasing chocolate Lab — he’ll keep you safe and smiling. Kind, willing, and exceptionally smart, he combines a gentle disposition with a powerhouse physique at 15.2hh. Clarke has been shown in both the cow horse and Versatility Ranch Horse arenas. He has dragged calves to the fire and trailed many miles behind cattle through rough terrain. Mo is a gorgeous blue roan gelding that is 6 panel N/N through parentage. I have owned Mo since he was a yearling and trained him from the ground up. Being a finished bridle horse Mo spins on a dime, changes leads and is just a pure joy to ride in the arena, moving cattle or outside on the trail. In 2024, Mo was shown in the SHTX World Show in Abilene, TX. In both rounds of that show Mo placed in the top 20 out of 45 in all events except the cow work due to some tough luck. This is a horse that is always my first pick to be rode outside of the arena as well. He crosses creeks with ease, takes care of his feet and is just a joy to ride. If you are looking for a horse that is seasoned in trail riding, mountain riding, moving cattle as well as arena work, Mo is the horse for you. Mo will excel at anything you throw at him. Oscar is a 5 year old with an old head on his shoulders and lots of ranch experience. He’s roped all classes of cattle and is good to doctor on alone. He runs hard and flat to cattle and rates well; he’s ready to make a head horse. Oscar is tough and can go all day in any terrain. We’ve used him to snub and flag colts and he takes the pressure and chaos well. He isn’t bothered by dogs or little kids or much of anything. He is gentle and honest. Hawk is a big, striking home raised 2 year old gelding. He has 120 days on him and has been to the arena as well as used outside. He’s also been started roping some slow steers. EZ neck reins, knows her leads, has a great stop, backup, side passes, opens and closes gates, rides great in the mountains, crosses creeks and streams, works the flag, drags logs, loads and bathes with ease. Dakota is a stunning 4 year old dun AQHA gelding. He is very stout built and is approximately 15.2 hands tall. We purchased him as a weanling at the Sugar Bars sale from the VLW ranch. We brought him back for the yearling futurity in 2023 and our youngest daughter won both the youth in-hand-trail and youth halter class buckles. He has been ridden a lot on the ranch in rough timbered hills and carries himself very well through rough terrain. He has also been hauled to a handful of play days and ridden through several patterns at a trot/slow lope. We are just starting to rope the dummy and drag the log on him. Dakota is easy to catch in the corral or in the pasture. He is gentle, but best suited with a confident rider. Rosco is as big and pretty as his pedigree is. He’s got that famous run on cow blood and that buckskin color to top it all off. He’s home raised and has always been friendly and willing to learn. Cruizer is a gorgeous 4 year old AQHA golden palomino gelding with a natural crimp to his mane and tail. He is approximately 15.2 hands tall and very nicely built. We have owned him since he was a weanling. He is very gentle and absolutely loves people and especially little kids. He is always the first one to meet you at the gate or even in the pasture. He is a push style horse. He loves when we put little kids on him and lead them around and there is no doubt in my mind that he will make a wonderful kids horse with age. He has primarily been ridden on the ranch in rough timbered country but has also been to a handful of play days where he has been trotted/slow loped through several patterns. He has recently been ridden in the Gillette parade for the 4th and the Moorcroft Jubilee parade the following week and did excellent. Moonshine Skye is a very attractive, gentle, friendly type horse. He is thick made with a powerful hip and hind leg. This young gelding is well broke for his age and has never humped or bucked with me one time, even after layoffs. I just pull the cinch in him, get on and go. I have hauled him with me to various events and places exposing him to lots of different sights and sounds. He has been ridden in the big horns and handle rough country, crosses water, and tolerates unexpected wildlife without incident.
