September 2025 brings our 23rd Annual Sugar Bars Legacy Sale in beautiful and historic Sheridan, Wyoming. Frontier Live Sale will be broadcasting our sale LIVE, again this year. We hope this will benefit all those that cannot attend the sale in person. As with tradition, the Sugar Bars Legacy Sale Association will be hosting the sale this year; and it includes an incredible variety of outstanding Sugar Bars bred horses- meeting the needs of those interested in halter, performance, ranch, recreation, or those looking to take home a well-bred broodmare.
SUNDAY, September 21st- SALE Day! The sale begins with the selection of the WILD CARD weanling; and will then proceed in catalog order! We have limited the number of weanlings and yearlings this year, so make sure you come early and be ready to bid. The lineup of riding horses includes young ones just started; to the well started performance prospect, the all-around ranch horse, finished- arena, trail, and family horses. A select group of Sugar Bars bred saddle horses will sell early among the weanlings/ yearlings—we will announce lot numbers early on sale day!
Our weekend of events will start off on SATURDAY, September 20th with the Yearling Halter Futurity and Ranch Horse Versatility Futurity for 2- & 3-Year old’s. All weanlings sold at the 2024 sale are eligible to compete in the Yearling Futurity. To compete in the ranch horse versatility your horse must have sold in 2022 or 2023 as a weanling or as a yearling in 2023 or 2024 through our sale (eligibility transfers with horse).

In addition to cost of horse, brand inspection fee & health inspection fee for each horse purchased. Each animal sells to the highest bidder with auctioneer settling bidding disputes. Registration paper and transfer will be given to the buyer at the sale- if ALL information is complete on the transfer- including the sellers’, the horses’, the sale and the buyer’s information. All incomplete transfers will be held along with the registration paper, until the secretary is contacted with the complete buyer information. Any consignors that do not have registration papers back from AQHA need to mail them to SBLS Secretary, and then they will be sent onto the buyer, along with the transfer. Announced catalog changes on sale day take precedence over this printed book. Horses will sell in catalog order unless otherwise specified. Atlas brings a lot to the table in terms of disposition, build and pedigree. This colt has been a favorite at the ranch by all who have seen him this spring. Jazz is a very athletic filly so don`t let her size fool you, she can turn on a dime and give you some change. “Bean” is our perfect sized, 5 year old, red dun mare. She has been my go to horse for everything. She was my main mount during the elk fire, gathering cattle in tough terrain, dragging calves to the fire, calving season, and any kind of ranch work. You name it! Bean is big enough to hold onto a bull for you if needed. She’s seen plenty of long days packing salt up the mountain. Even after hard days she will still be first to meet you at the gate. Bean is fancy broke enough to take to a show. Moves off your legs nicely. She has been started on the heel side, some breakaway, working the cutting flag, and seen a barrel pattern. She has participated in the Wyo Rodeo carrying sponsor flags for all nights of the rodeo. Plenty of colts I’ve worked off this mare. “An Irish Remnant” is a 2023 buckskin AQHA mare currently standing 14.3 hands and projected to mature around 15-15.1 hands. “Annie” has a wonderful disposition and is riding beautifully. If you’re looking for a greatminded, solid citizen with no funny business, this mare is the one! Annie has around 120 days under saddle and will have about 60 more by sale day. She walks, trots, and lopes around with ease. She has a nice jog, picks up both leads, lopes around on a loose rein, and is soft in the face. She moves off leg pressure, has a solid backup, and opens and closes gates! She is learning how to turn around and is progressing great. Annie has been ridden outside at all 3 gaits, had ropes swung off her, and is comfortable around cattle. Cooper is a classy smoky black gelding that is quiet with a very trainable mind. He is built right with good bone , and balanced confirmation. He has a very sweet personality and has a willingness to learn new things. Cooper was purchased as a weanling at the 2023 Sugar Bars Legacy sale and returned last year to compete in the halter Futurity, winning his division. By sale time he will have a solid 60 days of riding on him. He currently stands at 15.1 hands and should finish out at about 15.3. This boy has shown a lot of interest in cattle when he has had the opportunity to be around them. Cooper’s pedigree speaks for itself! Big Peach stands at !5 hands as a 3-year-old, so she should mature to be around 15-2. This mare has a sweet disposition and is very brave about new environments and experiences. She is a thinker and loves to explore new things. She has a big presence and is a really nice mover. Mr Cowboy stands around 14.3, he is a very attractive, eye catching palomino with a white mane and tail and a big hip and powerful hind leg along with excellent foot and bone. He is a very gentle, friendly type horse that is very easy to catch and has never humped or bucked with me. He stays this way even when laid off. I have ridden him in very rough country in the Big Horn Mountains, he crosses water and tolerates unexpected wildlife. I have him started roping the burro and pulling a log in the arena. He side passes over and works gates, tolerates blue tarps and and sorting flags, and is very athletic showing a lot of ability to stop and turn around. Tito is a cute 6 year old gelding who was born and raised on our ranch. His mother was one of my favorite horses to ride. I started Tito myself. Everything comes easy to him, he is always very good to work with, and he has turned into one of our go to horses to get a job done. Tito has been rode in the hills all over our places in MT and ND, as well as in the desert in AZ. He has packed salt and gathered cattle in the mountains in Idaho. No matter what the country is like, Tito is sure-footed and will handle the job. You can use him to gather, doctor, sort, or take him to the branding - anything you need Tito can get it done. 2018 mare by BlackBerry Whiz x Pepto’s Peptonita! 14hh (Pepsi) - This mare will try her hardest for you in any direction you’d want to take her. She has done all aspects of ranch work including packing up the mountain, doctoring, dragging calves and moving bulls. She has been patterned on barrels and briefly started in breakaway/heel side. She has carried flags, been in parades and is safe through town. Pepsi stands for the farrier, clips, loads and bathes. This mare is patient, very soft and wants to please! Really she will go any direction you like!
SADDLE HORSES
Berry is a cute 14 hand mare, extremely shapey and flashy, with a lot of bone and quick footed. Roan hairs all through her coat, thick coon tail, mane and tail for days with the kindest eye. She is gentle, laid back, and has a loving personality. The same horse every time she stands to groom, tack up, bridle, get on, tie, and bathe. She loves going on trail rides- thru water, crosses over logs, and up or down any trail you point her too! She has been used outside to gather and push cattle, sort in the corral and we have used her to move the broodmares/stallions around. Most recently she is being ridden by my nieces- Ryggin (17) and Kristin (9). Prior to us owning her she was rode in busy downtown areas. She is an extremely easy keeper, stalls and pastures good alone or with a group of horses. She stands good for farrier and does not crib, weave, pace, or kick. We purchased her shod and have always kept her that way.

He can sure cover some ground, whether its rough country, up and down hills, or smooth desert trails, Ricky can get it done. He has also been used a lot on cattle and drug a ton of calves at brandings. He has roped bulls in the pasture and been used for sorting and gathering. Anytime a solid, safe mount is needed, Ricky is the one that gets saddled.
