he NILE doesn’t need an introduction — if you’re holding this catalog, you already know what this event means to Western agriculture and horsemanship. You’re one of the reasons it means anything at all.
As we build on the momentum from this past year, I am continually amazed by the growth of this program — and none of it would be possible without you. To our stallion owners, contestants, and consignors: your trust and support have allowed us to expand in ways I am incredibly proud of. Watching this program grow because of the people who show up for it, year after year, is nothing short of an honor. We are committed to continuing that growth, and we’re excited for what’s ahead. t is my pleasure to welcome you to the 59th annual Northern International Livestock Exposition. We take pride in promoting and preserving the Western way of life and showcasing the agriculture industry in our region. By participating in the NILE, you help us in this pursuit. Thank you!
As always, the planning for and execution of a successful NILE Stock Show begins months in advance. We hope to provide a memorable and meaningful experience for all who participate. Each October, participants and their families travel to Billings to take part in the NILE. We do not take this for granted, and we are grateful for the opportunity to host you once again. We look forward to watching your success during a week that celebrates you and the role you play in preserving the way of life we are so fortunate to live. T
he NILE horse sale provides a unique opportunity for consignors to represent progeny and riding horses at a competitive market. The NILE remains committed to being a platform for the future of the horse industry by highlighting progeny from regional breeders, while also being a great sale to shop for a next solid ranch horse. Last year, each high selling horse from the riding horse, yearling, and weanling categories received a trophy buckle.

HIGH SELLING RIDING HORSE
Foulger Performance Horses, operated by Wyatt and Anna Foulger of Ashland, Montana, topped the riding horse category in 2025. Their high-selling red roan gelding, Bet Hes Got Wood, dropped the gavel at $17,500. “Scratch,” an eight-year-old at the time of sale, was just the type of horse that represents Foulger’s program. "The heart of our program is creating family-friendly horses that are functional,” Foulgers said.

He was raised by Fink Quarter Horses (who also happened to top the weanling category last year). He was acquired from a neighbor and ranched and roped on during his tenure with Foulgers.
his strengths were the roping events. He completed the colt starting program at Miles Community College under Brett Badgett and now starts every colt that comes through their program.
“We loved him. He was probably one of our hardest horses to sell,” they said.
Foulgers are diversified in the horse business. They ride outside horses, focusing on finishing rope horses and tune-ups. They raise two or three of their own colts every year out of proven mares. The Foulger family also owns the stallion, Starlight Playboy DR, who has “lots of athletic talent.” Wyatt ranched and roped on him, and his colts on the ground are proving impressive. One colt by this family-owned stallion will be sold in the 2026 NILE sale.
Their three-year-old daughter rode in the sale ring with Wyatt, too. Wyatt and Anna work as a team in raising a family and making well-rounded horses. Together, they rear their three children under age four and bring their own strengths to the training pen. Raised near Chicago, Anna began riding horses in high school and moved to South Dakota for a ranch job after graduation. She then worked for Luke Jones and Justin Lawrence, growing in skills needed for colt starting and the cow horse discipline. Wyatt was raised on the same multi-generational ranch he now calls home. He rodeoed in high school where

PRR Darkkwood by The Darkk Side consigned by Paul and Rachel Reinholz topped the entire sale in 2025, as well as taking home yearling honors.
HIGH-SELLING YEARLING
PRR Darkkwood, sold by Paul and Rachel Reinholz, was the overall sale topper in 2025 at $20,000. Sired by The Darkk Side and out of Woodys Hot Widow by Nitas Wood, the colt came with eligibilities to Riata Buckle, Royal Crown Roping, Solo Select Stallion Incentive and the Gold Buckle Futurities. Reinholzes acquired him in a package deal when they purchased his mother, sired by the $6 million cutting sire, Nitas Wood. Paul and Rachel generally market all of their geldings, selectively keeping well-bred fillies for their own broodmare program. Reinholz has managed West Pass Ranch in Parkman, Wyoming, for 13 years and seeks to raise 3-4 quality colts each year. “What we’re striving for is something we can use on the ranch reliably,” Reinholz said. Their focus is on cow horse

bloodlines and optimizing good ranch horses by incorporating performance genetics. It is a family affair for the Reinholz family. “Between myself, my wife and three kids, [colts] are pretty well handled, easy to catch, easy to trim,” he said. Reinholzes also had the second high selling yearling last year. The buckskin filly PRR Nacona Jonez by Travelin Jones was purchased by the S Ranch. “I was just tickled by [that],” he said. The NILE horse sale has been a successful place for them to market their home-raised progeny. Their good-sized, cow bred Quarter Horses are “well-received” in Billings, according to Reinholz. “We've been treated awfully well at the NILE.” The Reinholz family will offer two more of their progenies this year.

HIGH-SELLING WEANLING
Fink Quarter Horses of Hysham, Montana, sold the high-selling weanling at last year’s sale for $7,500. The red roan filly, Callmequejanaisalena, was sired by Fink’s son of Call Me Mitch, Illcallyoulater. The dam is a personal favorite of Chad’s, and Finks kept back a full sister last year. “She's really showing what we hope to keep breeding for.” Chad said their program is centered around core traits. "We're shooting for a horse that you can do anything on. We want them to have the size, the foot, the bone, the mind, but still be pretty doing it,” he said. Chad Fink has bred horses for 25 years, starting in high school. Ward Fenton has been a mentor and like a second father to Chad since he was three years old. “He really brought me through the horse business,” he said. "It just all started through 4-H and breeding mares.”

Now, Finks operate their horse business as a family, raising 10-12 colts every year. Chad and Erin’s two kids, Reagan (14) and Hazen (9) both participate in 4-H and open horse shows with an emphasis on the ranch horse events. “It’s what we do every day, so it’s not that hard of a transition. We work for Redland Red Angus, so we have plenty of cows to get behind,” he said. Fink Quarter Horses stand two stallions: IllCallYouLater (by Call Me Mitch out of That Lady Blue by Hes A Peptospoonful) and Trashed Big Time (by Gunnatrashya out of Its Snippin Time by Shine Bigtime). Finks consigned two horses to the NILE horse sale last year and will represent three in 2026: two weanlings and a yearling. “We've been fortunate enough to have the high seller for a few years, so it’s always nice to bring a good product,” said Chad. “The NILE has always been good to us. You get to reach a few different people with the cattle shows and ranch rodeo that wouldn’t [necessarily] see your Facebook page. If you take a good product there, you’re definitely going to be rewarded for it,” Chad said.

Kits Cattitude by Hickory Boon Six (by Once in a Blue Boon) out of Kit Cat Kandy (by Zanolena Tom Cat), was the final selection. Nicknamed “Cattitude” for her unique personality, Ackermans say she is of a sweet disposition. “From the day she was born, you would go to pet her, and she would come to you and want to be petted. But she always threw her ears back like she was the meanest boss mare on the place, but she was never mean. That that's how she got the name Cattitude, just because she always acted like she had a Cattitude even though she was a sweetheart,” they said. She is a red roan filly with a white star. “She's a pretty little girl,” they said.

In 1977, he moved to the Forsyth area to work for the Porcupine Ranch. After a five-year stint as a ranch hand, Ackerman felt called to ministry. “I was a pastor for 20 some years, and during those 20 years, I was out of the horse business,” he said. In 2011, he retired from ministry and bought his first two mares to reestablish himself in the horse business while living in Columbus, Montana. When asked why the equine industry was his next step, he simply said, “I've always loved horses.” Ackermans grew their mare herd and acquired stallions as time went on, and in 2015, moved back to Forsyth to their current ranch. “We loved this area because it's big, open country,” Gerald said. “We had the chance to buy this place, and it was considerably bigger than what we had."

Gerald and Lorraine strive to raise athletic prospects that are ready for performance homes. Their current ranch in Forsyth, Montana, offers wide open spaces for their horse program.
FOCUSING ON GENETICS
Ackerman’s emphasis is on reined cow horse and cutting, according to Gerald. A decade ago, they showed and stood Zanolena Tom Cat by Rap Cat. He sired numerous broodmares in Ackerman’s current band, including the dam of the raffle filly. Today, they stand Hickory Boon Six, an own son of Once in a Blue Boon. He was shown by Travis Young in his threeyear-old year, and his oldest colt crop is two years old. Aside from proving their stallions, they also strive to breed to proven mares. “Most of our mares have been started to see what they can do,” Ackerman said. Ackermans raise between 7 and 13 foals per year. “We do all our own AI’ing, so it all depends on how good we are at that,” Lorraine said. Lorraine is a retired nurse practitioner and learned how to do artificial insemination from a personal friend, along with an in-person class she took with Gerald.

Optimizing genetics in order to get their babies into performance homes is the goal. “We try to raise what we can to compete. We've had some compete and some have won some money,” he said.
RELATIONSHIP WITH THE NILE
Ackermans have a relationship with the NILE going back a decade. In 2014, Travis Young showed their buckskin stud, Zanolena Tom Cat, and won the show by 8 points. Every year since 2020, Ackermans have consigned 3-4 weanlings or yearlings. “Overall, the Nile's been a good experience for us and has given us a chance to get our horses into the hands of some people that would show them. “We've met a lot of people that that we've become friends with,” he said. When Crystal Show approached them about donating the raffle filly, they were eager to support the NILE while promoting their breeding program. One was handpicked by NILE staff from the short list sent by Ackermans.
“I've got a little bit of a medical background, so that makes me think I know what I'm doing,” she joked.
“We had several fillies this year, so we thought, ‘Why not?’ That's certainly something we were willing to do and get another chance to show the horses from our program.”
Ackermans utilize outside genetics as well. Up until the great TR Dual Rey (PE $5.6 million) died this year, they owned lifetime breedings to him. They also own two lifetime breedings to Sannman (PE $4.5 million).
The drawing for the raffle filly is during the NILE Gold Buckle Select Horse Sale, the last Saturday of the NILE Stock Show & Rodeo. Winners may take ownership of the horse or take the proceeds from selling the horse during the sale.
