For Sherry Watkins, real estate is not simply about buying and selling homes. It is about people, trust, communication, and helping clients make important decisions with confidence. As a Real Estate Agent with Baird & Warner, Sherry brings a unique professional background to residential real estate. Alongside her property career, she continues to work as a professional classical singer and chorister with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Her experience on stage has strengthened her confidence, discipline, communication skills, and ability to perform under pressure. Her approach is simple: understand people, listen carefully, communicate often, and guide clients without taking away their ability to make their own decisions.

A PERSONAL APPROACH IN A

DIGITAL INDUSTRY 14

Technology has changed how people search for properties, communicate with agents, and market homes. While Sherry recognizes that technology can be useful, she believes personal connection remains essential. She describes herself as somewhat "old school" when it comes to technology and does not rely heavily on artificial intelligence. For Sherry, residential real estate remains a people-focused business. "It's about connections between people and it's about trust," she explains. She believes technology can support the work, but it should not replace human judgment, creativity, personal attention, or relationships. Growing Through Experience As a woman in business, Sherry has learned the importance of being direct, efficient, and confident while continuing to listen to clients and respect their needs. She also believes strongly in setting boundaries. One experience in particular reinforced that belief. After a client insulted her, she decided that they could no longer work together. For Sherry, mutual respect is not optional. It is an important part of any professional relationship. Her broader professional journey has taught her to learn from past experiences, remain open to growth, and understand her own strengths.

Building the Next Chapter For the next few years, Sherry plans to continue balancing her two careers. She wants to increase her visibility within her neighborhood by continuing to participate in networking groups and potentially joining a Chamber of Commerce in downtown Chicago. She prefers to keep her real estate business manageable so that she can continue giving clients the level of attention they deserve. She expects to work with two to three clients at a time, depending on her performance and rehearsal schedule with the Lyric Opera. She also appreciates the support of her brokerage and colleagues, who help one another when schedules become demanding. Eventually, when she retires from classical singing, Sherry expects to transition into real estate full time. That next chapter will bring new goals and opportunities. Advice for Women Entering Real Estate Sherry's advice to women considering a career in residential real estate is practical and grounded in experience. First, she encourages professionals to stay connected with their existing relationships and sphere of influence. At the same time, they should continue meeting new people and building genuine relationships. She also encourages aspiring agents to understand their own strengths and find an approach that works for them. Asking for help is another important part of her advice. No one has to figure everything out alone. Sherry also warns professionals not to spend money simply because someone promises that a particular product or service will transform their career. Instead, she encourages them to carefully consider whether an investment will actually support their goals. Above all, she believes honesty and trustworthiness matter. "Be honest and trustworthy," is one of her core pieces of advice.

A CAREER BUILT ON TRUST Sherry Watkins has created a professional path that brings together two very different worlds. Her experience as a classical singer has strengthened the discipline, confidence, communication, and adaptability that she now brings to residential real estate. At the center of her approach is a simple belief: people deserve to feel comfortable and supported when making one of the biggest decisions of their lives. She wants every client to find a home where they can feel proud, comfortable, and surrounded by family and friends. Her work is personal by design. She listens, communicates, adapts, and guides while respecting the client's final decision. As she continues building her real estate career with Baird & Warner, Sherry's story demonstrates how skills developed over an entire professional life can come together in unexpected ways. Her stage experience, negotiation skills, relationship-building approach, and commitment to personal service have all become part of the way she serves her clients. For Sherry Watkins, real estate is not only about property. It is about helping people find a place they can truly call home.

High-performance entrepreneurs institutionalize experimentation. New ideas are piloted systematically. Feedback loops are shortened. Adaptation becomes routine rather than disruptive. Companies that stop innovating once they achieve scale often decline quietly. Those that embed innovation into their structure remain relevant for decades. Brand Positioning as Strategic Equity Brand is not merely marketing aesthetics. It is reputational capital. It shapes perception among customers, investors, and potential partners. Entrepreneurs who scale effectively craft consistent narratives. Their messaging aligns with the mission. Their public presence reflects strategic clarity. Authority is built through credibility, not volume.

The Inner Evolution of the Entrepreneur Ultimately, scaling with strategy is not purely external. It requires personal transformation. The entrepreneur must evolve from an individual contributor to a visionary leader. Scarcity thinking must give way to abundance thinking. Control must transform into trust. Urgency must be balanced with patience. High-performance entrepreneurs invest in their own growth. They seek mentorship. They cultivate advisory networks. They remain students of leadership and industry evolution. Because the ceiling of the business is often the ceiling of the founder's mindset. Redefining High Performance

When brand and business strategy operate in harmony, expansion accelerates naturally. Visibility becomes a magnet rather than a megaphone. Sustainable Growth Over Explosive Expansion The temptation to grow aggressively can be powerful. Yet high-performance entrepreneurs differentiate between momentum and recklessness. They expand operational capacity before demand spikes. They strengthen leadership infrastructure before enlarging teams. They secure financial buffers before pursuing high-risk ventures. Sustainable growth compounds over time. It creates resilience. It builds institutional strength. Explosive expansion without foundation may generate headlines, but it often collapses under pressure. Strategic scaling prioritizes longevity over spectacle.

24

High performance is not measured solely by revenue or valuation. It is reflected in structural integrity, cultural coherence, financial stability, and long-term impact. Scaling with strategy demands courage, clarity, and discipline. It requires resisting trends that prioritize speed over sustainability. It asks entrepreneurs to think architecturally, act deliberately, and lead intentionally. Inside the mind of a high-performance entrepreneur lies a simple but powerful belief: growth is not something that happens to a business. It is something that is engineered. And when growth is engineered with strategy, it does more than expand a company. It builds an institution capable of shaping markets, influencing industries, and leaving a lasting legacy. Future Vision: A Team Built for Growt

Looking Ahead

In 2024, Brian took his vision to the next level, co-founding the Buying Southern Oregon Real Estate Team with business partner Josh Berman. In less than a year, they’ve grown to 20 agents, each supported by a system that prioritizes mentorship, collaboration, and agent autonomy.

As Brian looks to 2025 and beyond, he’s keeping a watchful eye on macroeconomic factors—interest rates, buyer sentiment, supply-side dynamics—and how they’ll impact his region. But uncertainty doesn’t faze him.

“Our goal is to help agents build their own thriving businesses, not just ours,” Brian says. “We’re creating a model that sets the standard for growth and excellence in Southern Oregon.”

32

“Markets shift. Clients ghost. Deals fall apart,” he says with a grin. “If you can stay consistent, solve problems fast, and keep your head in the game—no market can beat you.” For Brian Simmons, real estate has become much more than a career—it’s a platform for reinvention, a channel for authentic connection, and a daily reminder that success is something you build yourself, one relationship at a time.

The Compounding Effect of Strategic Consistency The journey from startup to industry authority is rarely linear. It includes pivots, setbacks, recalibrations, and breakthroughs. What remains consistent among market leaders is strategic clarity. They refine direction without abandoning identity. They adapt without losing purpose. Consistency compounds over time. Brand trust strengthens. Operational efficiency improves. Talent attraction accelerates. Market positioning solidifies. Authority is earned gradually through disciplined execution. Beyond Growth: Building Institutions At its highest level, industry authority transcends financial metrics. It creates institutions that influence markets, inspire competitors, and shape standards. Companies that reach this stage redefine their industries. They set benchmarks. They become reference points. From humble startup beginnings to commanding industry presence, the transformation is fueled by strategy, discipline, innovation, and leadership evolution. The Strategic Blueprint for Market Leadership The evolution from startup to industry authority is neither accidental nor purely organic. It is engineered through clarity of purpose, operational discipline, financial maturity, cultural alignment, innovation, and resilient leadership. Market leaders do not grow merely to expand. They grow to elevate standards. They move from chasing opportunity to creating it. From competing in markets to defining them. From surviving volatility to stabilizing industries. And in doing so, they demonstrate that true authority is not a destination. It is the result of strategic evolution sustained over time. In an era where startups emerge daily, the companies that rise to authority are those that understand this essential truth: growth begins with ambition, but leadership is built with strategy.
