AtRichmondHeightsLocalSchools, relationshipsarewovenintotheschool day.Withjusttwobuildingsservingthe entirecity,thedistrictoperatesasa close-knitlearningcommunitywhere studentsareknown,supportedand challenged.Thatsenseofbelongingshapes everythingfromclassroominstructionto long-termplanning.
Jordan’sschedulereflectsthebreadthof opportunitiesavailable.Themorning mightbeginwithanAdvancedPlacement course,followedbyahands-onclassthat connectslearningtoreal-worldcareers. Scheduledtolaunchinthe2026–2027 schoolyear,thefullyaccredited programwillbehostedatRichmond Heights,givingstudentshands-on exposuretoaviationmechanics, aerospacesystemsandhigh-demand technicalcareers.Fewdistrictsofsimilar sizecanoffersuchaspecializedand forward-lookingprogram.


Anotherdefiningfeatureisthedistrict’s co-locatedcommunitylibrary,theonlyoneof itskindinthecountyembeddedwithina schoolbuilding.Thelibraryservesstudents andcommunitymembers,reinforcingtheidea thatschoolsarecentraltocommunitylifeand thatlearningextendsbeyondtheclassroom.
Attheelementarylevel,RichmondHeightshas investedinoutdoorlearningspacesthatinclude acourtyardclassroom,butterflygarden,Safety Townandinteractiveplayareas.Thesespaces supporthands-onlearning,creativityand social-emotionalgrowthwhilegiving educatorsflexibleinstructionaloptions.
RichmondHeightsservesapproximately 780students.Thestudentpopulationis predominantlyBlack(87%),with representationfrommultiracial,Hispanic, White,andAsianorPacificIslanderfamilies. About68%ofstudentsareidentifiedas economicallydisadvantaged,15.9%receive specialeducationservices,andjustover 2%areEnglishlearners.
Despitethechallengesmanystudentsface,outcomes remainstrong.Thedistrictreportsa100%graduation rate—almostunheardof—anda92.8%attendance rate.Theclassof2025earnedmorethan$1millionin scholarships,wereacceptedtomorethan2,000colleges anduniversitiesacrosssixstates,and60%were college-bound,34%enteredtheworkforce,and6% enlistedinthemilitary.Thesmallbutmightyclassof 61studentsalsoearned142CollegeCreditPluscredits.
PersonalizationisastrengthofRichmondHeights. Witha15:1student-to-teacherratioanda1:1 technologyprogram,educatorsareabletotailor instructionandrespondquicklytostudentneeds. Thedistrictalsoboastsafive-starStepUpToQuality preschool,givingitsearliestlearnersastrongstart. Supportisinplaceforstudentswithdisabilities,English learnersandthoseneedingacademicintervention,while enrichmentopportunitieschallengeadvancedlearners.
Social-emotionallearningisembeddedthroughoutthe district.Peer-to-peerprograms,mentalhealthawareness initiatives,andpartnershipsthatprovidetutoring,public speaking,andmentoringensurestudentsreceivesupport beyondacademics.Theseeffortsreflectaholistic understandingofstudentsuccess.

HollisterHighSchool’sAdvancedPlacement (AP)program,whichhasbeennamedtothe CollegeBoard’sAPProgramHonorRollfor thepastthreeyears,isbuildingreal momentum.Morestudentsaresteppinginto college-levelcoursework,moreareearning qualifyingexamscores,andthedistrictis puttingsystemsinplacetohelpevenmore studentsparticipateandsucceed.
Oneoftheclearestsignsofgrowthis participation.HollisterHighSchoolreached 907studentsenrolledinAPcoursesin 2024–25,markingthehighestenrollment showninthereport’smulti-yeartrendline. ThatincreasemattersbecauseAPclasses don’tjustrepresentatougheracademic option;theyoftenopendoorstoconfidence, collegecredit,andtheskillsstudentsneedto thriveaftergraduation.
Justasencouragingiswhat’shappeningonthe examside.Thereportshowscontinued improvementinthepercentageofAPexamscores earninga3orhigher—widelyrecognizedasa strongindicatorofcollegereadiness.Inthe five-yearperformancetrendchart,Hollisterrises from53percentin2021to81percentin2025, pairedwithanaverageAPscoreof3.2in2024–25. Thoseresultsreflectmorethantest-day performance;theysuggeststudentsareincreasingly preparedtomeetthedemandsofAPcoursework.
