SWPShasincreasedenrollmentatatimewhenmany Houston-areadistrictsareexperiencingdeclines.Atthe startofthe2025–26schoolyear,thedistrictenrolled roughly 1730students,reflectingstrongstabilityand continuedinterestfromfamiliesacrosstheregion.A recentHoustonChroniclearticlelistedSouthwest PublicSchoolsamongthepopularcharteroptionsthat parentsarechoosing,whichhighlightsthedistrict’s growingpresenceinacompetitivelandscape.

SouthwestPublicSchoolsisalso strengtheningfamilyengagementwith moreparentleadershipopportunities andstrongercommunitypartnerships. CupertinositsintheheartofSiliconValley,a placeknownforshapingideasthattravelfar beyonditsborders.Familiesherevalue learning,innovation,andcommunity,andtheschools oftenreflectthesamespirit.Withinthissetting, CupertinoUnionSchoolDistricthasgrownintoa districtthatpayscloseattentiontowhatstudentsneed todayandwhattheywillneedyearsfromnow.Itswork hasnothappenedovernight.Instead,ithasbeenshaped bysteadyprogress,carefulplanning,andabeliefthat childrenlearnbestwhenthewholecommunity supportsthem.

Muchofthedistrict’srecentprogressreflectsthese goals.ItbroughtPositiveBehavioralInterventionsand Supportstoeveryschoolandexpandedmentalhealth andelementarymusicstaffing.Classsizeswere reduced,safetyimprovementsweremade,andsolar energysystemswereaddedacrossallsites.The communitysupporteda$347millionbond,and employeesreceivedhigherpayandfullhealthcare coverage.Thedistrictalsoshiftedtobasicaidfunding, givingthecommunityastrongerroleinshapingthe district’sfinancialfuture.
CupertinoUnionSchoolDistrictservesabout13,500 studentswithsupportfromnearly1,800staffmembers. Thedistrictincludes23schools,with13elementary schools,5middleschools,andoneTKthrough eighth-gradealternativeschool.Itsreachextendsacross sixcitiesthatshareclosetieswiththedistrict.
TheseincludeCupertino,Sunnyvale,SanJose, Saratoga,LosAltos,andSantaClara.Thestudent communityreflectsthediversityoftheregion.Recent datashowsapopulationthatislargelyAsian,alongwith White,Hispanic,andmultiracialstudents.Many studentsareEnglishlearnersorcomefrom economicallydisadvantagedhouseholds.


CUSDoffersaTKthrougheighth-grade curriculumbuiltontheCommonCore StateStandardsforEnglishlanguagearts, mathematics,andscience.Thedistrict’s studentscontinuetoperformatalevelthat standsoutacrossthecountyandthestate. In2024–25,82.73%ofstudentsmetor exceededstandardsinEnglishlanguage arts,and84.47%didthesameinmath.
Scienceresultsshowed75.36%meetingor exceedingexpectations.Theseoutcomes risewellabovecountyandstateaverages. Thedistrictsupportsthisworkthrough data-drivenpractices,anMTSS framework,andpersonalizedlearningtools likeiReadyMyPathforgradesone throughfive.
